No, this is just News channels advertising their interviews as live even though they were recorded ahead of time, because they think it makes the interview sound more important or special if it is done live.

It's more important than you may think. If they can lie about being "LIVE" then what else are they allowed to lie about? That's how you wake normies.
Fake live crosses are done all the time and there are a few explanations. The original filming could've been an actual live cross, or a staged cross. The footage was then passed on or sold to a different station depending on how the two are affiliated with each other. The next station want to use their own anchors in a kind of rebranding so it doesn't look like they just lifted an entire interview with a different interviewer sitting in a different studio. they could just introduce the complete cross with "here's x from y station with the interview" but this doesn't promote their own brand enough, looks lazy or confusing to the lowest common denominator viewers and it's fairly easy to feign. Trading footage is a lot more common under the same company rather than between two competing brands like MSNBC and CNN but they're probably owned by the same small group of kikes and aren't really competing at all so it doesn't matter.
Anything live is a cluster fuck of a job, there's a lot of extra equipment involved so there's more room for shit to hit the fan live on air. Even just doing it live means any slip ups/stutters, gaffes, or generally poor delivery are all going to be included. Sometimes a small local studio branch of a big brand simply don't have the equipment to even do a live interview so they take footage from another studio from the same company. Of course its a charade to still call it live, but ratings and a content quota are crucial to these businesses and if you think they have a strict code of sincerity you are so new you're still attached to your mums cunt by a cord. Usually if you take watermarked footage you at least try and cover up that telltale sign but often these places are a frantic coop of under qualified chickens racing against a clock and fucking up constantly with varying degrees of severity and chances are you won't catch it all unless you have some idea of how it's put together.
As for Jimmy Kimmel Live, does he seriously expect a talk show to be broadcast live for absolutely no extra benefit and a lot of extra risk? Talk shows are filmed in front of a "live" audience. News media has made "live" the meme of choice to represent the most up to date breaking news, it became just another selling point for any kind of program. It's new, it's fresh, it's live. Is Saturday Night Live broadcast live on air? Why the fuck should it be? Ever seen a set change on the show take place? It has also been used in the sense of one station broadcasting a live feed of another station which is playing a tape. "New series tonight live from the USA". Live is a meme.
TL;DR News stations do this shit all the time because it's convenient, they want to self promote better but they're incapable, uninspired, or too pressed for time, while also competing against each other for the most interesting content which gives better ratings, therefore more valuable ad space therefore more profit.
