IMO it's the worst in the series, but that doesn't mean it's shit. Extremely mediocre, which makes it shit by comparison. People shit on IV for trying something different, but at least they dried something different. It feels like they just put in everything they think makes a game qualify as a 'GTA' and left it at that.

This isn't to say that you can't have fun with it. I'd try it out, it's a good waste of 10-20 hours.

to be fair, on one hand classical animation techniques are incredibly time consuming and more expensive compared to modern methods

on the other hand, modern methods hate the color black and ruin so many shots right off the fucking handle, its not even nostalgia faggotry, go watch any more modern anime and look at any low light or night scene, they don't use black they just throw filters over shit and its so fucking ugly

The animation quality in chink toons has always been sketchy since Japan's eternal recession began in the early 90s.

Those are all OAVs and have a higher budget than the cheap TV anime, which always looked mediocre. Plus, doing night scenes in hand drawn animation is way more harder because of using a different set of colors and inks, and having to adjust cameras aperture and such.

The one good thing about digital is that night scenes are now more prevalent, but as you said, a lot of times it looks cheap with the way light is angled.

i don't deny that it is difficulty to keep the quality high with the budget and deadlines of modern animation, you can't win that battle, but its still frustrating to watch

the new jojo adaptations are above average, but your example still doesn't use straight up black, those are just muted shades of purple and red (possibly achieved through filters? i can't confirm). I don't know if the modern techniques straight up can't do the color or not but low light scenes still feel incredibly weak compared to the old methods

i can't confirm off the back of my hand, but last i looked into it, it is not a good gig and a lot of people that genuinely love the craft are getting discouraged, partly due to the consumers being vapid shit heads

People like fill-in and in between animators, yeah they get paid slave wages. Storyboard artists, animation supervisors get paid at the level of a like manager. Directors make more, but it's not like they get Hollywood money, far from it.
