If you've been following japanese news for the last few years you will see some companies are lobbying the Japanese government to legalize gambling in the country, Konami's current CEO is one if these guys. Also he is largely anti video games and looking at Konami economics, you'll see that video games have been a net loss for Konami a few years now (jeez, I wonder why that is? :^) ) so the ceo basically shut down the video game sector of his company so he could ready his assets and video game IPs basically waiting the day Japan legalized gambling so he can have a huge power already over pachinkos. Whether or not he has Yakuza ties is little more then rumors but the reality is the Konami CEO hates video games and self sabotaged the video game sector of the company to have an excuse to sell out his workers and make money with a short term money scheme plan that is gambling that will hurt Japan in the long run.

Unlike most other games, MGS doesn't become worse counting the years that pass nor the sequels it receives.

Every single entry, yes even MGS4 and MGSV, have positive aspects that outweigh the bads by so much that they need to be played.

Metal Gear is a series that explores so much of the gaming world that it just can't be taken away by prejudice, hate, or shitty marketing. They're all masterpieces in their own right.

Call me a kojimadrone, at this point I don't care. If liking good games is being a drone just fucking hang me and slap my ass.

Even now I keep thinking that perhaps they'll announce MGS3 HD but my cynical side is pulling me back telling me NEVER EVER

There is something deeply, fundamentally wrong with the fact that this exists, and that the majority of the world does not bat an eye at it.

I will agree with this in that if you ever needed a prime example of how to do sequels in terms of GAMEPLAY you should look towards the MGS series.

Each new game builds upon and attempts to improve on the gameplay of the former. Taking lessons learned and new technologies into account without EVER losing the personality of the last games.

The biggest jump is perhaps between MGS1 and MGS2 but you can see why the evolution is needed. then in MGS3 and 4 and 5 you see the evolution of the gameplay continue to grow.
Old gameplay elements are not necessarily discarded. Maybe repurposed or repositioned but never really outright discarded.

It is honestly such a big example of how sequels to a game series should be done right that the fact that its not talked about more often in gaming "media" lead me to believe its because other fuckwads can't live up to it.

Bioshock 1 and 2 are the same games and 3 is a fucking step back.
Mass Effect 1 and 2 are totally different games and 3 is the same as 2 but with a shitty story and lazy design the entire way through.

MGS4, yes. MGSV? No, not really. Nothing about MGSV makes it worth playing. Not the single player, not the multiplayer, not the story, nothing.

nah bro. MGS5 is great to play. Its story is just not all that great.

Here is what happened with MGS5, they found the popularity of everything in Peace Walker without understanding why that format was appealing to begin with, which was the platform. On portable/handheld systems people don't game for hours upon hours. They want quick missions they can play. Pick up and play in times of downtime when you're in transit or any other downtime.

They did that format but then since this is a release on major consoles and systems its going to have elongated missions and other things.

Then again, there may be some artistic reason to some of it too. You can spend plenty of time alone, with your thoughts, traveling between point to point when doing the side-ops. I used to only leave a map once all the side ops I could do were done. Plenty of reflection to be had while moving between objective points.

holy shit underrated post

the story was good and it was engaging, I was hooked for the ride. but after the ride ended it was really sad how apparent the game was chopped in half and rushed to finish. game could have been incredible if Konami didn't go crazy.

I am somewhat hesitant to place the blame on Konami for the way the game turned out.
So much shit is cut and chopped up. So much shit appears and goes nowhere. So many things just have those frayed little ends that lead me to believe that Kojima kept jumping from idea to idea during development.
I know a whole lot of people want to deny it, and certainly he does too, but I just get this feeling of an "artist" that keeps seeing new things and keeps getting "inspired" and with nobody really to tell him to chill the fuck out he is just constantly wrecking and causing the team to re-do a bunch of things.
Shit, consider that the code name "Ahab" isn't used ever again after the first mission where you rescue Miller.'

I am left with two explanations:

1) Kojima went full on George Lucas but since he didn't own the full rights to the IP or his own company to do what he wanted to do he got shitcanned by people above who were only interested in the numbers and cash he was burning.

2) Kojima knew full well what he was doing, intentionally sabotaged the story of the game so that the end result was something that nobody could actually be sure of which would fit in line with the comments of MGS4, how nobody knows the truth of Big Boss.
