its shit

Its alright

It's shit from TRPG stand point or in general?

Is RNG nonsense as pronounced as in the 1st one?

I think you are a faggot for not making a real X-Com thread.

Yeah, its better but its still there.

Whats stopping you from making one you?

No one actually plays the original, they only say they do so they can defend the flaws of Nu-com by pointing out the flaws of the old game + made up ones.

It was only on PC because they probably couldn't get it to work on consoles.
The whole thing reeks of laziness.

I haven't played old ones, and I think I can't go back to them.
I have no problems playing old console games like contra or general chaos, but for some reason old PC games are very hard to play for me.
Ironically I can't stand modern console games, but love PC ones

An adequate follow up to an acceptable approximation of XCOM, okay mod support, interested to see the terror from the deep game they teased.

Its hard to learn, beghining is always thought and you have no ides what you're doing, but once you do its immensely satisfying.
Go play UFO Defense faggot

Performance is bad enough to affect gameplay.

Until performance is improved, it sucks.

Thanks

Were you able to type that with a straight face?

XCOM Enemy Unknown but with more geoscapeRNG, worse AI and less depth. Colossal disappointment and probably the worst TBT game I've played.

Wait for a performance patch and a mod that makes it an actual game instead of a stupidly broken and easy joke of a reskin. They didn't even do anything with that whole GORILLA OPS WE'RE THE UNDERDOG NOW shtick, all they did was hastily slap a halfassed timer and stealth gimmick and called it a new game.

I have not played it yet. I'll wait for a GOTY version with all DLC included.

...

Which games would you recommend for PC then? I love the idea of games like XCOM, but I am thoroughly disappointed with the actual game. It's fundamentally broken on so many levels.

Emulate Front Mission

Can't you refund?

Theres barely anything aside from the Long War devs game Terra Invicta and Xenonauts 2.

Too much of a board game, not enough of a video game. Same could be said of the modern Civ series.

What do you mean the idea of games like XCOM? If you mean gameplay, Jagged Alliance is a close one

Looks like fun, but not the answer I was looking for.

How does xenonauts improve on the original X-Com? I couldn't enjoy the original X-Com due to certain time consuming elements such as the start and end of a mission. I did like a lot of it, but not enough to persevere.

Tactical, turn based gameplay that doesn't have JRPG sized healthbars. The ability to customise the skills and equipment of units and some sort of strategic overlayer.

Don't tell me you're triggered by robutts.

Depends on what type of game you'd like to play

Obviously you should play X-COM(the old ones) plus the UFO(aftershock, aftermath) games if you want to purge ayys. Xenonauts is cool but it feels incredibly soulless in terms of artstyle and as stupid as it sounds I feel like I'm dying from the inside while playing it. Otherwise it's a fun game. To answer your other post, the most obvious examples of what's changed from X-COM to Xenonauts is the air combat(you actually get to command your gunships on a radar type screen, it's cool but it's kind of a one trick pony after you get what to do) and shields.
Don't expect it to be as easy as XCOM though, not much is explained off the bat and there are dead end researches and base placement is very important. Also try and check out mods for OpenX-COM, one of my favorites is the pirate one.

If you'd like gorilla warfare check out Jagged Alliance. I haven't played the most recent on in early access but JA2 has a bunch of mods and is a great game.

If you'd like something simpler, there's Tastee Lethal Tactics or Frozen Synapse. Basically you choose where you want your units to go while predicting where the enemy units will go(you get to set mock up moves for them and see how things play out). Once it's set, you prime a turn and both units take their moves at the same time and you get to see whether or not you've made your moves right. Frozen Synapse in my opinion isn't too much of a good game besides the Soundtrack, and Tastee focuses more on multiplayer.

If you want something stealth related Invisible Inc's the best you'll get. It's ridiculously good but it might get boring depending on how you feel about roguelite games.

Finally there are two games I know of but can't recommend. First there's Hard West, I don't know if it's good or not. Then there's Dual Gear, there's a demo for it on Steam. Basically it looks like mecha Valkyrie Chronicles(which I haven't played either but they look pretty similar), and I dig it so far but it also has the XCOM2 problem where animations are stupidly long and unskippable.

I dislike console turn based tactics games because they generally play nightmarishly slowly. XCOM 2 plays slow as fuck, but at least I can instantly select what I want to do with a mouse and hotkeys.

I love robutts though. Hopefully Harebrained Scheme's Battletech game will do it for me. I've tired of Megamek, if only because finding players is a pain in the ass and the AI sucks.

Can't argue with this, Satan, but I can't really think about any fast TRPG either.
Maybe shit like SRW with skipped animations, but it's just huge super hero power trip without any tactics or customization in there.

Looks better and has many small quality improvements.
But at it's core, it's mechanically very faithful.

Off the top of my head, the air combat is more interesting, you can shoot around corners, etc..

It streamlines it considerably adds new but unpolished broken mechanics and gives it an alternate future setting.
Try it out, you might enjoy it, the UI isnt as hard to learn which is whats stopping you from playing it.

Like I said, go play UFO Defense nigger, learn how to play it and you'll be hooked.
Try out Alien Invasion as well.

...

It looks like I'll stay away from Xenonauts then. Not due to difficulty, but just due to disliking the length of time it takes to do things and the repetition of the disembark.

I'll check out Jagged Alliance, the Gorilla warfare part of XCOM2 was appealing, but not even slightly developed.

Tried Frozen Synapse. Brilliant idea, but it is so fucking soulless. That way you feel playing Xenonauts? How I feel playing Frozen Synapse.

TASTEE looks like it solves the Frozen Synapse problem, so I'll give it a shot. Cheers.

If I had more time I think I'd explore the genre. As it stands there's often too few decisions being made in too long a time to keep things interesting.

The only time SRW has any semblance of real tactics is on some of the harder bonus objectives to get the the mission masteries on maps. Most of those boil down to cheesing the system with OP units and not strategy.

Invisible Inc

Well I only played through OG1 and 2, and a bit of J on Gameboy Advance.
You just spam your abilities and wail on enemies with strongest attacks.
Only hard fights were that bosses where you need to outdamage them because they fucking heal themselves every turn.

Those were some great games, but it's mechs, dialogues and soundtrack that carried me through, not gameplay.

That's a shit reason to drop a great game.

When written out like that, you're right, it is. I stand by it though. You should be able to set formations/pre-plan manoeuvre-action combinations and then execute them with minimal input. It would speed up gameplay dramatically. If every time you see a door you breach it one of three ways, then why not set up a system to automate the execution of that breaching?

Oh I forgot, you should check out Syndicate(Not the FPS one) and/or Satellite Reign. I wouldn't really call it very similar to X-COM but you might enjoy it too.

Gotta warn you that Satellite Reign's endgame is stupidly broken and it runs bad because >unity

Fucking hell, this. Why can't I have missions where I take over a comm outpost and broadcast XCOM's manifesto? Or blow up a supply train? You get one mission where you blow up a monument, and that's as close as the game gets to a resistance atmosphere.

I'm sure Mods Will Fix It™, but I don't see why I should bother playing a strategy RPG if it's made by people so fucking incompetent that they left the #1 design flaw of every otherwise-good but very poorly aging sRPG in in the current year. Anyone who likes strategy RPGs discovered long ago that the standard design (FFT and clones) are all unplayably shitty without emu fast forward. Bravely Default integrated the combat fast forward people learned to appreciate in emulators years ago now.

Why would I bother playing a game made by people who at best are idiot niggers with terrible understanding of game design, and at worst do not play games? Uninstalled after the tutorial battle.

You forgot how lazy they've gotten with the game to the point that the game doesn't even have falling animations. Last I checked they just teleport to bottom floor and then get damaged after five hours when the game realizes it.

Better with mods. 2K is pretty much Bethesda now.

Glorious

Stinking shit with casual friendly numbers and mechanics and shitty escamotages to create challenge (like timers). Maybe a day I'll take the time to make the game coherent with itself, but i don't really care.
Firaxis get less and less competent.

...

I really wanted to like it but it never feels like you're leading a global resistance. I was hoping each region would have its own pool of soldiers and resources with some other mechanic for moving those soldiers and stuff to where they're needed. I wanted to have a dozen random dudes in plain clothes wielding pistols and pipe bombs trying to seize TV stations or kidnap officials in the cities while the stealthy operators are saved for the black sites and UFOs.
You rarely do guerrilla terrorist stuff. I want to be with the guys when the roadside bombs stop the convoy, not rappelling in afterwards. The commandos have their time and place but having them as the primary focus of the game and not the broader resistance was a mistake in my opinion. There's so much stuff they could have done, like giving the player the decision to be more brazen with shit like suicide bombers at the expense of losing public support. As the game stands civilians getting caught in the crossfire only matters during retaliations.
The Avenger and Skyranger kill any suspension of disbelief. Why can't the aliens track just one ship that's constantly zipping around? How the fuck is the squad concealed when a VTOL aircraft just stopped over a city center and dropped a bunch of people off?
I've had a lot of fun with the game but it could have been so much better and I'm glad I didn't spend money on it

I finished my 5th walktough and got the "who needs Tygan" achievement so you can guess Op…

It's decent without mods, and good with mods.

Here some good news from the lewd factory

WHAT'S TEH FUKKEN POINT?

Name me a game that has that.

I know a few that are real time and have a planner (where you set up a list of timed actions), so you can set up a coordinated breach, but I don't know any game that lets you do it automatically.

For one, it would move control from the players. For another, even a minor difference in terrain or situation might warrant a change in the plan, making a saved "template".

Something like this is even more problematic in turn-based games, since soldier can have different amount of TU's.

I guess you are not fan of the little mermaid…

btw she is a robotic flesh-horror inside the armor

Ahoy fellow captain

I feel like all thing that can be said about the gameplay had already been said so instead let's talk about the story and how much of a wasted opportunity it was.
If the story is about the occupation of a whole planet just make it paralleled to the occupation of South Vietnam by the France or the US.It's 20 years, they could allow marriage between the new human-like unit and earthling and created hybrid that could act as bridge between the 2 species, indoctrinated a whole generation of youth during those time, brand the revolutionary army as nothing more than terrorist maybe add an event where there's a willing human spy that sabotage the revolutionary equipment.Recruit the hybrid and make them Advent troop.Think about it from the hybrid perspective, if there's some terrorist that are actively attacking alien and shouting thing like alien are only using human and they will hunting down and killing every alien they see which could include my mom or my sister.I'll fucking slaughter them. How about human that protect alien that are wounded from battle making, media that demonize the resistance be showing video and interview with family member of the alien you kill. So many thing that could be done, so much wasted potential.

I usually find the "sex mods" ugly as fuck and over the top, but this one feels just perfect.

Miles above the original design. Kudos.

Play the originals, xenonaughts or LW instead.

One step forward with regards to XCOM 1, two steps back.

A spiteful game that somehow tries to be "the Dark Souls of TBS" but ends up being unfair and tedious.

Also patch support is essentially zero so if you're having performance issues now you'll probably not get rid of them ever.

It's not even difficult. Take away some of the more bullshit parts about a few enemies and all you're left with is predictable piss poor AI

The default AI is garbage and the game cheats in your favor in all but the highest difficulty, and even then the odds are still in your favor.

Enemies will run towards you even if that means being in low cover for no reason, it straight up makes them easier to hit because you end up getting close range bonuses that the AI do not get. And then the enemy AI is also trash, like how sectoids would rather waste turns making zombies instead of just taking an easy shot on a flanked person.

The AI being shit doesn't really matter when they outnumber you. And then you have those fantastic "features" like Leader aliens getting free turns outside the turn order.

They aren't even smart enough to focus fire you down with several 30% shots or whatever.

They aren't smart enough to not do stupid moves in order to take shots at the allied transponder.

Its fucking garbage just because of this, bugs, gameplay mechanics, literally everything else aside. Could've made it a real tactical guerilla simulator with aliums and research and sneaking and instead its the same fucking game just a little different and worse in every regard.

You didn't even played the game? Right?
Like holy shit man! That was some sonichu tier autism there!

The ayys (even from the original X-Com series) are bioengineered clones. Imprints of they long gone origins. (the game over and over tell you how fucked up they are genetically)
Even the "boss" aliens, the Elders are fucked up biologically. Thats why they build the avatars.

Advent is basicly the first fucked up form of the human race. I highly doubt they are able to reproduce after the abuse what their body went through. (See the Forge mission where they are cloned instead of breed)

It certainly doesn't feel like 30% chance to hit from their end. And the transponder shooting can only happen once per round afaik unless they have no other option.

Some of the first mods were to show the aliens hit %.

And the reason the AI is shit is because of the mission timers, because the dev knew if the AI was competent or would actually get into a stuck in fire fight with you the chances of being able to kill them and finish your objective in time would basically be 0. So instead of baiting you into following them, or them falling back into the fog of war into high cover, they will charge you and go into half cover that is easy to blow up so you can kill them more easily. And don't get be started on that bullshit that if you aren't on impossible non activated groups stop patrolling.

And what's the reason why the missions timers are shit? :^)

I mean they could have gone the invisible inc route with the timers or have mixed up the power balance or have tried to do more with it than just slap a LOL YOU LOSE timer to counteract making Overwatch strats so broken.

I haven't played it, but normalfags like it so I think it's shit

What a faggot

It's not the odds in your favor, it's the enemies that are nerfed to shit, both in damage output and aim. They aren't even tanky.

tbh it's actually a pretty great way to determine if a game is good or not.

normalfags also breathe, you should stop doing that like us enlightened few

youre late for shilling, mr. marketer

also, the game is shit

No, no. Mission timers are the consequence of shitty and nerfed engine. It's not like they nerfed the enemies to help you against timers.
They thought, "shit the first game was hard! Let's dumb it down, for the wider audience™". When they realized that the game was shit for the hardcore gamers, they introduced timers. That's how it went.

Are you so afraid of shills because you think they can influence your opinions? Maybe you should be more worried about random anonymous posters influencing your opinion if you're that weak-minded.

Playing the smug game doesn't work, when you're outed as an interloper.

Take your wagon, your "goods", and leave this place.

The mission where you took over the comm center and fucked with their broadcast that was supposed to promote their genetic "cure" and instead showed what was actually being done was cool..

They should let you spend intel like that more often, it was a nice feature that was literally only used once.

Hell, they could maybe even have you send soldiers on spying/scouting pre-missions for bonuses during the main mission. Imagine sending in a sniper beforehand and they take a position off-map and lend some support fire or sending in a specialist and prehacking some stuff so you vlcan activate it at will.

Is there another ending?

I'd like to read a more technical walkthrough but I haven't seen any faq of this game.

gamefaqs.com/pc/163467-xcom-2/faqs

Its alright, but it wasn't without massive launch problems that really shouldn't have been there in the first place considering it was made for PC exclusively and was delayed 4 months, apparently not enough to fix all the issues

other than that its like Vanilla EU with a little bit of long war sprinkled in, its not bad, but its not anything special either, definitely not worth a full 60$, and NONE of the DLC are worth it thus far and I'd wager none will be

I know that no games have it. I feel like by now someone should have figured out how to do it.
