Can someone explain to me the appeal of this Im playing the second encounter right now and i get past the fourth level without cheat codes. Some of the levels don't even look beatable from a design perspective there is just too much shit flying around and a lot of blends with the background. The game also doesn't give you enough ammo. Worst of all it ends up being boring. Seriously whats the appeal here?

Im being fucking serious, i wanna understand. Im playing it cause its on my backlog but it is not a fun game by any means, and basic fun its all its got going for since its not like the story is any good besides for a few laughs.

It's basically as simple a shooter as an arcade shooter as you can get. Most of the appeal is playing the appeal on higher difficulties, as well as being able to kill as much enemies as possible and finding secrets.

You miss the point. That's what makes it fun. It's a video game, a fictional media. It's supposed to be entertaining. Over the top antics, enemy designs and weapons with balls to the wall gameplay where it's simply get good or get out mentality. You either adapt to survive or you fuck off. This is what a niche title is. Remember it.

The one thing that bothers me a lot about Serious Sam is that I feel Sam should have a faster movement speed. And based on that the entire series just doesn't seem fun to me at all. I like the secrets and enemies, the weapons, I just feel like Sam should be moving at x1.5,x.1.75 is current movement speed.

For SS3:BFE it feels like he should be moving at thrice his speed or something.

And this is why I and others keep saying that Serious Sam is in no way, shape or form anything like classic Doom. In Doom, you moved and you moved quick. Quick enough to out run anything.

It's more or less because I was a big Powerslave fan and I assumed because SS is another FPS set in Egypt then it would also share the sanic speed Powerslave had.

I completely agree, when you get the speed power up it feels like that should be his normal running speed.Sam is way too slow for the type of gameplay the game is design around.

I certainly hope you can, the game isn't that hard to be honest. Using cheats would just peg you as being a colossal faggot.

Powerslave is amazing. Though I now have to say that I personally don't agree with everyone comparing Serious Sam to older FPSs because he's not as fast as older protagonists and because of the fact the game plays nothing like older games.

In older games, you moved quick but you also had to navigate a maze to hit the switch at the end. Monster closets would open when you find a key or open another segment of level (the only thing Serious Sam does right). But the problem with SS besides Sam being slower than molasses in the middle of mobs that rival certain Doom .wads is that there is very little exploration. Sure the maps are fuck huge and it's amazing how they have that many hordes, but I'm literally going forward, except for the few levels where you have to activate something to exit, but fuck man. The hordes are not fun.

I don't care what you guys say, but the hordes are not fun because of the fact Sam is a slow motherfucker. I'd be having more fun if Sam could at least run faster. But whatever, I rambled enough.

If Sam moved faster then the game would be a ton easier, being able to outrun kleers, bulls, missiles, easily dodging waves of bullets/lasers.

Like modifying some ini file or something?

While I dont want the basic mechanics too be messed around with, I really hope they add some more.
SS is great, but theres a shitton of space for improvement.

Im also afraid the Talos writer is going to fuck up the serious plot.

There's already a Saturn port called Powerslave EX, but the link for it was taken down. I'm sure there's a mirror lying around but I haven't saved that link.

There's a lot of appeal in fighting so many HUGE enemies though, even if they're incredibly shallow and killing them is somewhat unsatisfying when its just holding mouse1 and A.

Hopefully the rerelease improves it.
Hows the port?

Use tommy gun or that laser gun for most situations, shotguns for when theres not too many enemies at the screen, rocket launcher or tommy gun vs large number of kleers, grenade launcher for killing something big quickly or clearing large number of small monsters who are far away, gatling gun for emergencies, and cannon for even bigger emergencies.

Flamethrower is good for clearing tons of kleers and smaller enemies in tighter spaces. Rocket launcher is basically as powerful as shotgun from close range, use it to take down medium enemies like bulls or blue biomechanoids. Sniper is good for taking out most annoying enemies too. But the best weapons in the game (not counting cannon) are tommy gun, xml laser gun and gatling gun since they have no recoil or reload whatsoever, its "point and kill" guns which get plenty of ammo.

Forgot to add, use cannon or grenade launcher when theres lot of bulls coming your way. One cannon can go through dozens of bulls, killing 5-10 of them instantly if you line them up.

Sniper rifle is useful at taking out blue mechanoids and bulls from a distance as well.

I bet you watch porn for the story too.
