For blacksmithing or fine carpentry or cooking you can only gain skills most effectively within 10 levels of QL (the quality of the object you're working on) and your current level. This extends to other skills with known difficulties

Say if you have a short sword with QL 1 and you have lv 10 weapon smithing, you will get constant skill ticks until you hit QL 11 through improving the item.

How important is getting nails/iron to build a house? Is there a communal furnace/a bunch of nails nobody is using?

you need 1 large nail for each wooden wall you are going to build, you can go to the forge down in the mines and ask someone how to make them

Alright. The black lines are the walls, the tan squares are roads (some paved, others just packed dirt), the blue square is the guard tower, and the black square is the mine entrance. I tried to get every road and might have got a few people's patios as well.

Because I'd probably fuck it up, download and edit in your own claim like I have with mine. Just pick a colour and fill in the squares your claim occupies and then use a darker shade of that same colour to mark what squares of your claim are occupied by the building. On the left of the map, colour in a few squares with the colours you've used and add your name beside it. I used 17px text with the Sans font in Gimp which fits quite nicely in two squares of the map grid. I'll consolidate any changes if there not everyone updates one at a time so don't worry about that.

And also for the love of god save it as a png so others can continue to edit just using the fill tool in paint.

If you press H it'll bring up an ingame wiki, everyone here is learning as they go.

I'd suggest try to find/make shelter as soon as possible so wildlife won't eat you alive. Then start making all tools you can think of (woodworking tools, iron tools, clay tools), then start foraging for seeds to make farms, then find low level animals and lead them home and groom them everyday to raise animal husbandry. Improve your items in between those sessions.

I think so. And just when I was updating the map.

Frames decay over time if you don't finalize or build anything in them when you do. Takes about a day real time apparently.

If you wish to replant a bunch of trees you need a sickle to get the sprouts. Though I doubt you'd wanna do that for starter as that'd put you off real quick. Trees replant themselves anyway, just not at the rate where 40 people sweep through a hecta of forest per minute. Replanting and getting sprouts trains you in Forestry and Gardening skills however

Just make it a habit to replant every time you chop a tree, you can ignore bushes though fuck those.

Fences are very tough to break, walls even more so (requires siege weapons), so don't worry about griefing.

You need body strength of 21 to break down fences anyway and need a maul or shod club to do so. If you improve your fence over 50 something it will literally require 22 hours to break down one fence.

Alright, The guy next to me had his structure disappear and I didn't want to get blamed for it. It was only a frame and it didn't look like it was finalized.

Though since this is WU with action speed sped up 4x I guess it'd only take about 5 hours, but then that's only wooden fences.

I have a forestry in progress just for that reason with loads of trees already planted. Shit just takes time to grow. Its all pine trees because those aparrantly grow quick.

If you had forestry that high usually what happen is in the online game people would buy sprouts in bulk, and high quality. Forestry decides that and usually they pay 1 silver for 1000 undamaged sprouts. 100 if they're from oaks.

I was thinking of picking up Fine carpentry like making Furniture and other shit for people so they can actually sit in their homes and be comfy. But i dont know. If we already are running low on wood that might become a problem.

And i think after all the houses are built the wood consumption is gonna calm down at least a little bit.

Fine carpentry is great, it's one of the staple skills because it's used to build transporters like large carts, which can be hitched with animals, to large wagons.

Training Fine carpentry also net you Carpentry skills in general, which makes woodwork much less suffering. Though if you wanna be the special guy in woodwork I'd suggest shipbuilding, starting by making shit ton of rafts.

I guess we could combine forces if you want. I just need something to do while the trees grow.

there are some systems in place to stop that. Your characters info is stored locally.

Within your install is a unique fake steamID. Your character is registered to that ID to the server, so it's essentially your 'password'.

Someone above said it's saved locally, another said it's stored to the server and linked to you based on a spoofed Steam ID somewhere in the game's install directory.

So in theory, if the second person is right, you need to bring that spoofed steam ID with you to your second computer and log in using the exact same name. Maybe.

I wanted to become Libila priest but the guard tower just got built and most people will probably have their own spectral guard themselves so I'd be fucked over. Guards can open locked gates.

The guard towers area of influence is not that large, you could move to one of the corners that is not occupied and set up shop there.

For whoever is on and cares about team invites, to make invites easier have the invitee type /invitations and then someone type /tinvite theirnamehere. It should invite them at any distance without having to be near them.

What animals can be beaten by a fucking noob?
does that 24h buff that reduces aggro actually fucking disable it? I've passed right through a crab (that have a red overlay) and it ignored me

If it were the regular Wurm, you would be getting your asshole torn constantly, that's why I stopped playing this game the first time. According to someone else on the server, the newbie aggro range is also turned up to be 4x more effective or something, so that you can go pretty much anywhere without constantly dying. Once that wears off though, you'd better be ready, crabs are apparently just as dangerous as Wolves.

what is the best pve stance? defensive because it cuts part of the 'moving penalty'?
does the mobs get moving penalty too? meaning that if I keep moving, while I have reduced penalties they don't?

Normal fighting is best for now, aggressive will get you killed unless you have plate armor. Defensive is just too slow and once you hit QL50+ weapon most trash mobs will die in 2 hits.

Mobs get penalty in a sense that if they turn their back or side to you they get hit harder, or if theyre on a slope below you then you get higher combat ratings.

Mounts also count into combat ratings, that means more hits in, more dodges etc

meaning that for self defense (to be ready for those mountain lions and giant spiders/scorpions that comes from the horizon without warning), I should level normal mode before the 'noob no aggro' thingy ends?

Yea normal fighting works best for starters. Also always travel light as hell hounds or trolls can catch up to guys with iron chain armor
