I loved Gears so much, must've logged well over 2000 hours in the multiplayer across 1-3. So fucking sad to see the path its gone down, I was actually considering jewing myself and buying an Xbone just to play 4 before they started showing actual gameplay. Achievement have never really been exclusive (and were only good when making you play the game in different ways) and just being used by developers to reward stuff like 1000 kills or getting 25/50/75/100% the game just to track how many players did so.

Cover based mechanic is really handy and practical, but when overused by lame devs it's annoying. I actually like how they implemented it in GTA IV, it's not mandatory but has to be used strategically. Shame it didn't really hurt the weapon accuracy. It should be, like in Kill Switch.

People generally liked the story, world, and gameplay even though GoW was supposed to be a tech demo commissioned by Microsoft for the Unreal Engine for Xbox 360.

Never mind the things Sony did like get Oddworld Inhabitants to make an expensive PS2 tech demo for a new Abe game, then tell them to fuck off when they asked for tech help and their publisher folded. Or paid a billion dollars so Squaresoft would only release it's games on PS2.

Fuck man, the Xbox 360 era was a dark time. Those things were such breaky shitboxes and yet they got all the good games. The PS3 sucked ass back then and the Wii was always the Wii. It's crazy to think there ever was an era where Halo 3 and Gears were considered revolutionary in any sense of the word but that was indeed how they touted it back then. It was sort of a gross transitionary period from the very console-y 6th gen to the modern "entertainment hub" style of the 8th gen. The 7th gen consoles were supposed to be online centric yet the online never quite developed so it was janky and vastly obsolete to the PC. They were all optimized poorly and for the first time we really saw major framerate issues all across the board. DLC was finally becoming super mainstream in favor of expansion packs which led to the development of HORSE ARMOR and so many people said "If you don't like it then don't buy it and it won't make any money so they'll stop making it!" as if that even remotely turned out to be true. Wireless connectivity wasn't a standard yet so the 360 had a $100 wireless adapter which bit ass. Games in general started to become "modernized" and cinematic. CoD4 was a NEW and ORIGINAL breath of fresh air.

7th gen was such a terrible shitty era. Thank god that's over. It produced a lot of great games but literally every other aspect of it was shite. Good luck reliving your 7th gen memories in a decade when the servers are kaput and you can't get your DLC or update patches. I doubt there will even be any surviving 360s in the year 2026, those things had such an abysmal failure rate.

Gen 8 is worse in every single way

The only saving grace of 7th Gen was that it had a good year between 2006-2007 and the better game here and there.
That generation however popularized absolute cancer, from games that needed to be installed to Microtransactions in fully priced games.

Now that shit has been standartized thanks to the 2007 normalfag flood, now the biggest assfucking coming our way is Cloud and Incremental console hardware updates.

I honestly can't argue that because I have minimal experience with gen 8. Still though, 7th gen sucked. I want to believe the 8th gen is better but then I ask myself why I don't own any of the consoles and it's because there exists ~1 game I want to play total for them.
