Everyone loves the exploration aspect of point and click adventure games and RPGs and early FPS games even if you're not really playing but just wandering around. They don't exist because all the people making them only like them because making an actual game was too hard.

Shizune's route felt odd, but I think part of the problem was the complete lack of choice in how things went. Going an entire act without being given a choice just made it feel like you were being told a story, instead of being part of it.
