Warlords was likely made to go with the movie, since it deals with the old orcs. But they fucked that up and warlords was just random time travel that has no effect on the the overall game. Now the movie about the old orcs is coming and they the game has gone back to demons. THeir plan was shit to start with and they couldn't pull it off at all.

Well. I don't blame them. Its a nice deal, and makes sense for people to actually go to a movie for a free game. Especially if its with all expansion packs, its a great deal for people.

But here's a catch, they possibly trying to get those people hooked to the game after a month of subscription. If this would be a guild wars movie, i would go to get free game that i can play infinitely without subscription.

pulling the plug on WoW would piss off too many promotional partners. there are more junk food, tabletop, t-shirt, whatever the fuck you can think of companies that thrive off of Warcraft's even middling success.

Because the only thing people were interested about the game was the porn. Even then they shot themselves in the foot by shutting down the porn.

Don't get me wrong, it is desperation but I also think it's rather clever.
The biggest wall for getting into WoW is the price barrier, to purchase the game and all the expansions will set you back considerable, and that's before subscription costs. By allowing those who watch the movie to get over that initial barrier, those who enjoyed the movie can play the game without that barrier to get involved in the game.

Do I think it'd work?
No, people will play for the free month and probably get bored after, except for 12 year olds who steal their mother's card to play WoW.

It's not clever at all, it's not the first time they use WoW to boost the sales of their other products.

If this is desperation, it's a dumb desperation move - most of the retards going to watch this shit are probably already WoW players, and will have 0 interest in owning another copy of Warlods of Shit, 'aka 'the worst xpac ever''. It makes zero sense.

I think one of the big problems with that line of thought though is people who aren't already into Warcraft and it's lore probably aren't going to like the movie. A lot of the reviews I've seen of it were people complaining that it's full of references to obscure lore that are entirely impenetrable to people unfamiliar with the franchise.

people familiar with Warcraft dislike it more because it fucks everything up and turns the first game into a joke. the only people who end up satisfied are the awkward in between of people who know about Warcraft but not enough to really give a shit, who I can't imagine are itching to watch a Warcraft movie in 2016.

I was a little disappointed with Pandaren, mostly because i was hoping they could finally make a neutral third faction.

The movie itself is pretty shit, their armour looks plastic, all action is garbage save for battle of Durotan vs Gul'dan.

The story makes no fucking sense either, even less than in the game. It is not explained that Sargeras posessed Medivh and made him do bad shit, Medivh is just corupted like it's fucking WoW in the last 5 years.

The most hilarious moment in the movie is when honorabru orcs watch Gul'dan cheat when fighting Durotan, they all scream that he's a coward and they won't follow him. So he kills three of them, the rest piss their pants and get in line.
Ten minutes later Lotar wins a similar kind of duel and walks free, and when Gul'dan wants to kill him he can't because orcs would consider it an unhorarabru act and stop following him.

If Blizzard thiks they can make this into capeshit rival they are mistaken.
