Cool spot is a platformer about the dot from the 7-up logo

How did this even happen?

I didn't see that chex game before. Just by looking at the picture I assumed that it was literal customed doom without any license and it's an obscure tittle, but holy shit, this was released for free in cereal. And they bought the license from ID. And the whole game is just reskined ultimate doom…

They're both shit.

Played both as a kid, actually prefer chex quest to doom in some ways. The weapons seem cool

Chex Quest is a fairly impressive total conversion that you get as a huge ad for Chex. I really like the Zorch weapons and the music, and have played it more than Doom.

Yeah, man. Still have the original CD it came on. Kinda moot since you can download it, but still.

The Genesis version of Cool Spot is better than the SNES. Prove me wrong.

...

well, the developers were more familiar with Sega's hardware.

I distinctly remember that Cool Spot game being garbage as a kid. I had a friend who for some reason had like, no other games and given the choice between Cool Spot and no games at all, it was a toss-up at best.

I had this SNES game about the Cheetos dude and it was damn good too

You just couldn't get gud. Dork

Chex Quest actually had completely unique levels.

McDonalds had some legitimately good games as well. M.C. Kids for the NES was a platformer with momentum based movement, the ability to fuck with gravity and even took weight into account for springs and such. Seemed really ahead of its time and way better than it should have been. Also if you got gud with jump timing you could hop on top of water like a fucking ninja.

Treasure Land Adventure is another good one that was developed by Treasure, the same devs who did Gunstar Heroes and Ikaruga. The grappling hook thing was really fun to use and it had pretty good level design. The last boss had a really cool gimmick with multifloor shifting doors, wish I thought of it.

There was also Global Gladiators, which was a collectathon exploration based action platformer by the same guys who did Cool Spot.

All 3 of them gave me way more enjoyment than any modern AAA release. They also clearly had way more thought, effort and love put into them than AAAs which is hilarious. It makes me think that mainstream devs are all dead inside now. They don't do it for the love of the game anymore, to them it's just another job.

even the original Super Mario managed that, which is funny because there are even platformers released as late as the Playstation that couldn't do it.

CQ had the most comfy music

I feel like Chex sprites and textures fit the engine much better than Doom's sprites and textures. Chex 3 has gorgeous written all over it, it looks amazing.

Chex 3 was done by just one guy iirc

Momentum based movement is shit user that's why it was mostly dropped afterwards.

2 ex developers. it was supposed to come out back in the 90s but fell through because no one actually eats Chex cereal. they just stick to the snack mix.

All of the wads were one dude, I think. The 3rd one is definitely the one creator dude.

Brutal Chex Quest when

...

NO U

Oh…

You asshole…

Just load brutal doom with the chex quest 3 wad, creator said it works in the comments

The third one was actually pretty good. The first two were too easy.

CQ3 was done by two people

Anybody have the actual midis to these?
I can probably pop them into FL Studio with a better soundfont and upload the results.

"Here is all of the music used in Chex Quest 1 and 2, and both the "stolen" Chex Quest 3 and the real one. This also includes all of Stephen "Strife" DiDuro's music that is used in Chex Quest 3. "Strife" is one of the Chex Quest fan community's greatest artists, mappers, and MIDI composers."

Someone already did that for you.

my dentist had cool spot in his office, anyone saying it isn't amazing is flat out wrong.

I remember that game being a mediocre platformer, but it actually looked really good for a NES game.

Pretty sure that's because internet didn't exist back then and because you were a kid. Think of modern kids just enjoying shitty mobile games, they just like it because they don't know better nor do they need to.

I honestly doubt the devs of M.C. Kids put a lot of thought into it, it was probably just a job for them, but making good games then wasn't as hard as making good games now, with the bar now really up, that's why indie devs rather 2D to this day.

I think there's no "good vidya" or "good devs" since that'spretty subjective, but I do think we just lost our capability of enjoying games since we grew up, mostly thanks to the internet and the peer pressure of anons telling us one game is bad because of technical reasons.

It's called learning user, once you know the trick behind the magic it stops becoming interesting. This isn't specific to games.

You're all forgetting something.

I have like 3

and carmen sandiego and I think amazon whatever

I do sometimes

Corn chex a best

Man, I've been wanting to play Pepsiman again forever.
But I was thinking something a while ago.Isn't Pepsiman almost the same as those shitty running mobile games? Sure, you don't have microtransactions in Pepsiman, but what does make it better, exactly?

CQ3
jesus fuck what?

For one it's difficult and has a lot of charm to it. You run around with a trashcan over your head and your controls reversed. It's incredibly satisfying to beat a level and the levels are all nice and varied. You have your car wash, suburban area, metro, etc. I think there was even a forest fire level but I haven't played it in a long time

Also the music is just the coolest. I wish there was more like it actually playing ingame

>companies now resort to hiring calarts students to redesign their mascots in order to save money on flash animation commercials
You know what, I don't even know why we fucking eat cereal.
It's like we're strapping on a feed bag full of oats as if we were horses, and most people are lactose intolerant, shouldn't we eat real fucking food like eggs and bacon?
What fucking sense does it make to supplement the protein from meat with protein from grain?

You don't want to follow Kellogg's example and live healthy by eating cold cereal and giving yourself anal enemas every day?

Seriously, Kellogg was fucking insane, cold cereal is weird when you think about it

corn chex is alright

you post explains why I shit less than I used too tho

You don't eat grain for protein, you eat it for carbohydrates, which are the biggest supply of your body's energy.
Cooked meat isn't even the best source of protein.

Day of the rope when?

Then why is it used as a marketing ploy on cereal boxes?
Go image search "cereal protein" and see how many boxes have it printed in big bold lettering to grab your attention.
As for carbohydrates, you can eat a lot of shit for that, like any fucking vegetable.
Cereal is fucking bland tasteless shit coated in sugar and washed down with watered down milk spiked with sugar.
With as little physical activity as I get most days, I can get by on 3 eggs, 2 slices of buttered bread, and a glass of whole fat milk, whereas a bowl of cereal and watery milk leaves me hungry again a couple hours later.

...

Cool Spot is complete shit. Progenitor of the modern hidden object game disguised as a platformer.

you're gonna go diabetic, dubs man

I think for the amount of fat-free shit on the market and the prevalence of obesity, that there's some correlation if not causation there.
I doubt I'll ever contract that beetus.

Well, I threat cereal like candy. Is just something that tastes good. I eat corn flakes without milk, I love the crunchy feeling.

>>>Holla Forums

Runner games originate from PC back in the 80s.

You'd think series entirely built around being toy commercials would have better games to help sell their product.

Yes.

I don't see what a conspiracy about fat-free shit making people obese has anything to do with being politically incorrect.
It's not like I mentioned anything about cereal and most other processed food products being kosher certified.

Toy maker companies are fucking retarded, user. Look at hasbro. Lego is milking that sweet video game money, tho, although in a retarded way.
Bionicles game never ever Nor MLP game

...

I don't know if GI joe has been relevant in years with that god awful movie series that came out a while ago

Mediocre and generic cover shooters?

Haven't played Devastation, but Platinum is overrated as fuck so I figure it's probably mediocre as well.

I haven't played Cool Spot in more than 15 years, but I think the sound effects are still burned into my brain.

I think it was just a great time for platformers.

I just want a civ-like game where you play as Cobra Commander taking over the world on the financial and physical levels and telling the Joes to fuck off
He used to be a used car salesman for sucks sake, that can be the tutorial area before it hits the fan with his brother.

Evil Genius Strat-like but with Cobra?
I'm all for it

I just finished the second run, it's good but short

GET OUT!

No.

Do you also believe shooters are better without momentum?
Platformers aren't the only games ruined by removal of it.

It ain't an April Fool's joke niggers.

Depends on what kind of momentum we are speaking about, if you're talking very slight like DOOM then no I actually quite like it because your startup is very fast and you don't slip for several seconds when you stop, if you're talking like Chrome you're out of your fucking mind even if I enjoyed the game personally I wouldn't ever fucking want movement like that in anything else.

Same thing apply to platformers, I don't mind some acceleration and stopping time but not fucking several seconds like SMB and friends, it's not that hard to master but it's not fucking enjoyable in the least

...

Surprised no one mentioned this yet.

Played it, it was really good.

As someone mentioned, we eat cereal for the carbohydrates. "Breakfast" cereal, you know, the stuff for kids like Goldem Grahams and Cheerios and shit like that is chock full of sugars which is intended to give the kids a jolt of energy so that they can focus it on paying attention at school.
Then they went and just increased the proportion of sugar because it's cheaper and they can stick bait "Value" banners on the box. Cue widespread obesity. Just eat bread, eggs, bacon, oats, anything that isnt more than 10% sugar by weight and you'll be fine. If you wanna go further, >>>/fit/ and read the sticky.

I played this shit too much

The Burger King game on the 360 was also good too
have games with blatant corprate shilling surpassed the shitty triple a / indie hipster garbage we see every month?

Does anyone know where I can buy Fruity Loops in Europe? I loved them in the US but there's no way I can find them here. That sucks

They sold them in the UK a couple of years ago, but discontinued them after bad sales, which was probably because they didn't taste as good. You can still get them from specialist shops if there's any near you, but the price will be extortionate.

...

can it Holla Forums

he didnt say anything about jews or anything we at Holla Forums talk about

Don't want to open a new thread for this question:

Is there some sort of high-res, 3D models texture pack for Doom that works with Zandronum and Brutal doom?

...

...

Guess what, just us talking here on h8chan might already be considered a "conspiracy". The term "conspiracy theory" was created in order to stifle dissent in the first place.

Cool Spot was a game my mom played, going so far as to play for almost 13 hours one day, switching off with us as we died/progressed.

It was her favourite game of all time, beating pac man and miss pac man. She loved it a lot and it was what made her understand video games could be fun, which is why she let her kids play so much vidya.

My dad played chex quest, liked it, did some early research and from there got duke nukem and doom. He wasn't impressed, but beat them both and let us play them too. He still likes Galiga more, but the tech was cool and he built us a gaming pc with us.

I like my parents, and my 90s kid lifestyle

...

because the rules for game design were a lot simpler back then, reach a goal and overcome the obstacles in your way using a set of tools given to you

so the worst it could end up was boring and not outright trash

No she just works and plays some mobile Sims game now

where have you been for the past 7 years?

where has everyone been for the past month and a half

I eat chex cereal you pleb.

cinnamon chex is the best
GET OUT

I got chex quest 3 and it's running, but it won't let me pick up keys. I get the keycard message but the associated doors don't open and there's nothing in the inventory.

What sourceport are you using

Make sure you're running with the zdoom version it carries with and that you're NOT running it brutal doom. no seriously, don't be that retard that tries to run brutal doom with everything, it isn't going to work. Also take noe that it's an IWAD, it's supposed to run by it's own, not with Doom.wad or Doom2.wad.

If that doesn't work, try this: chexquest.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=386409097e0bd158f68bf740fe788c9e&action=downloads;sa=downfile&id=25

>TFW Fighting is Magic got C&D'd
>Horsefuckers who did it for free managed to make a higher quality product than most modern devs

All 3 parts? I hope so since the first is kind of too easy while the second was probably the hardest.

It is real its called metal gear rising

Oh. I was using the zdoom it came with, but I was trying to run it with ultimate doom. Thanks, it works now.

The game have other game now and it doesn't contain anything from the show anymore. Looks like a decent fighter, and U heard that Lauren Faust herself designed some of the new characters, but I dunno about that.
A fighter is cool and all, but that show deserves a game more about exploration thanks to the lore, same with Bionicles.

Game's called Them's Fightin' Herds now.

The assets are hand-drawn, then modified to fit the resolution and color palette limitations, right?
