Any games where I can directly control a ship with a big spinal magnetic acceleration cannon? The ship's size is not important, but satisfying sounds are.

I am looking to find the comfiest space game ever. Any suggestions user? Some suggested space engine.

Rebel Galaxy may have been somewhat meh, but goddamn they nailed their soundtrack down

no man's sky
:^)

Representing the imperial navy!

Some anons recommend space engineer or space engine yes

How is it?

cozy, some shit stripped from it by the dev since its an earlier build

I've mostly been doing trade runs making lots of shekels to buy bigger cargo ships and havent even bothered landing on most planets or explore them and still having fun

kinda flippin between playing that and planetside 2 with fags on the board

What all can you do in it fam?

playing SE while listening to one of the Halo Soundtracks, works wonders really

its mostly exploration, learning languages and claiming planets while naming shit
you can shoot everything and burn the planet to the ground and get hunted forever by some giant space AI thing

lots of shit I dunno because of how early build it is

Is there actually anything interesting to explore or is it just meaningless procedurally generated shit?

its procedurally generated and sometimes you notice it in plants but most of the time you'll keep finding new things to explore and I guess the final game is finding out what the creepy fucking AI thing is

I'd recomend a pirate when it finally comes out and gets cracked

i doubt you can play it offline

Playing SE and watching space dandy.

you might be correct, but it is essentially a single player game with passerby multiplayer mechanics kinda like the soulshit series
I dont see how you'd even play with someone else though since the game is essentially the size of a universe

What things are there to explore? Are there cool alien ruins?

I might be interested if I get to be a xenoarcheologist.

Third season never

I am kinda okay with this. I dont really like ongoings that overstay their welcome.

I would be happy too if they would just say the show is over and not say it's on infinite hiatus like all the other good nip shows

more like being a xeno biologist, although some planets have ruins and monoliths but very rarely
I never found more than a fe standing stones

Shame.

In retrospect, the reason I put on with Mass Effect might have been exploring them alien ruins. They even had a designated waifu blabbing about the archeology.

Man Mass Effect was a universe with such potential but it went entirely the wrong direction. Such a shame.

How good is Star Ruler 2?
Should I get it?
Does it have good mods?
What about DLC?
Where to get it?

Post Space Ship designs you like.

I always preferred the term void ship myself.

I'm chasing this last fucking imperial escort in BFG:Armada after a 700 point battle.
The little umie git is running all over the place. Now 20 minutes of chasing and the game time is over and we both lost because battles are timed.

The little zoggin pinksin survived.

ZOGGIN UMIES!

Was it a cruiser clash?
If he was defender he won that one.

...

Zog me it was.

He was just too fast, my 4 escorts couldn't catch him and the big ships fared even worse. Got some bombers on him but it wasn't enough.
Ork space junk really is slow. Absolutely everyone can outrun me if I lack taunt.
Not fucking fair.

Zoggin umies !

Well, think positively. At least you destroyed his cruisers and battleship, right?

RIGHT?

Wez did reck em. Everyfing but dat dere escort lil bugger. But da umie won anywayz.

Umie victory laws are bout as reasonable as da warp.
Datz why green is best.

I'm a big fan of how killzone ships look both brutally utilitarian and seemingly impractical at the same time.

I found it interesting how ISA ships put a spin on the whole direction thing and instead of being built to point forward they actually look like pillars or towers.

the problem with star wars ships is that they all have fucking giant ass blind spots on their ships. i mean playing battlefront 2 space battles revolved around sitting under their capital ship and dropping its shields before they dropped yours.

I want to play Sins.

...

...

These ships look like rifles.

Didn't think of that before, but I believe you're right

THey look a lot like the rifles from ME

Well there you go.

SPAZ 2 is out! in EA

How do I git Gud in Star Ruler 2?

The AI always seems to have more of EVERYTHING. He has more research, more fleets, more influence - but all draws from the same pool.
How does it do it?

Like this?

That ship looks an awful lot like something from Jupiter incident.

What is this?

Blue Planet, the Freespace 2 mod.

Looks nice, going to try it.

Though ideal would be being able to destroy the enemy ship with one accurate long distance shot, like a space gunslinger with a starship sized coil gun.

In this mission your crew identifies a poorly-designed reactor casing on the enemy ship once you wear it down a bit; you blow off the doors and snipe the reactor for a 10 shot kill-ish. It's very satisfying.

Share thread. Its meh.

Pretty damn fun so far. Although one thing I'm noticing is that there are very few ways to build your ship, at least in the beginning. Your only real option is to go really long vertical or horizontal to maximize the amount of guns you have

Been playing E:D a lot and found a lot more fun to be had flying smaller ships over some of the larger ones.

Also if anyone is having problems instancing with overseas players a vpn is your only option atm. Frontier needs to get their matchmaking together.

Here's a quick webm of some of the multirole ships that engineers is setting up.

It's a Fed Corvette v Fed Corvette but one side has a viper stealth bomber with 4 cascade torpedoes to murder the shields, then rail guns to snipe parts. A python comes in later as well with turreted shield restore lasers which allows it to heal the one corvette while smashing on the hull of the other.

At the very least engineers has made wing play more interesting.

I liked it, but Distant Worlds: Universe is king of genre.

Fuck this gay earth. I want to blow up this in the spess

Just finished battlefleet gothic, it was alright. At core it was just 'do skirmishes until its over'. Maybe I needed to play on a harder difficulty but by the end the only planets I'd lost were ones taken away because lol plot and I had more deployments than threats to confront.

Also left remembering when games of this nature would come for a campaign for all the playable races involved, seems like so long ago at this point.

Oh yeah, there's a crystalline entity event going on in STO.
This years item from there is a crystalline console which boosts AP damage passively and had some activated stuff on it too.
More details after this bump.

How the fuck do you get started in Starsector? I don't know WHAT the fuck I'm doing.

Aight, so the Crystalline Absorption Matrix Console.

Pic related are its activated skills stats.

Did you pay for it or is there an updated torrent?

From what i remember you prey on smaller targets to build yourself a stronger fleet to fight bigger foes. It's pretty much M&B in space.

There's a 2-month old torrent on KAT, I'm playing that. v0.7.2a.

At one point that was going to be the case for the game along with a co-op campaign, but it got dropped.

I shall repeat my inqury:

How do I get good at Star Ruler 2?
I got creamed by another empire and it's 170k fleet early on (I even used super-optimized ships from other players).
I get out-researched, out-voted and out-gunned…which baffles me since the bonuses for them all come from the same pool. I can understand if another similar-sized empire beats me in one aspect, but all of them?

Starting a new game and just realized the power of Energy Surge. Fucking card diplomacy system is wonky, since you constantly have to check for new cards.

Also, anyone know of good ship sets?

Apparently that is getting replaced by an unpcoming challenge mode. Think I heard it was co-op.

So it's basically Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, except if there was just one racial campaign.

To be honest, I prefer having unique campaigns for each race/faction/whatever in games. If you just play the same missions again, but with different troops it gets stale. It's better to do DoW 1 style, even if it means each campagin is shorter. Of course, the game should have enough content to warrant the price, but between dark crusade style and just having one campaign and doing it good, I prefer the later.

Come to think if it, how many campaign missions in total did for instance Age of Empires 2 have? I remember there being a screen filled with different individual storylines, each with a dozen or so individual missions.

Fucking hell StarSector is boring as shit.

ok, just got my but to a point where i have 12 mill and multiple ships in X3:AP. What faction should I rep up. Some of my own research so far keeps saying yaki and otas. However I like the teladi but there ships are slow and crap damnit.

Sean Murray said there's an offline mode a while back.

If there actually is waits to be seen though. He could be another Todd Howard-esque liar or Molyneux-esque manic shit who overhypes everything. I hope he's not though, seems like a cool guy who just really digs the game he made.

I'm hoping NMS is good personally.

Something like 30-40 vanilla. close to a 100 with Conquerors.

Set up your economy
Make many specialized support ships.
Allocate unused budget to defence, which gives you supports.
Build big ships (dry dock them over budget cycles)
Once you get big deathfleets, destroy every one. If you make your support ships fill roles & design properly, you will kill all the AI's ships in battle, even if they outnumber you.

teladi m7 is nice.

yaki & otas have best locations for player bases. Everything you need for self sufficient complexes can be found in the unknown sector next to OTAS HQ.

After dicking around in Rogue System today and totally mastering the ship, is there another space sim game where I can press lots of buttons?

I need the buttons.

I always liked the ships with Voss prows better. Also the many of the Chaos ships look pretty nice.

Guys?
How stupid can people get?

Ok, so here's the story.

So, have you ever met this sorta levels of retardation?

retardation?

It's always something from reddit

Replaying star control II

I decided to replay Mass Effect 2 with a new femshep, this time as a soldier (I used to play as an adept). I forgot how fucking boring it is to scan all these planets, especially with the galaxy map theme playing in the background.

How is star citizen by now? Still primed to fuck up with the instances and so on?

Thank you.
Now to put that advice into practice.

What rule34 mods are there for Mass Effect user?

What you expect from plebit?

So are there any games where I can go through space collecting sex slaves?

Well.

That's the best i can give ya.

Broken as shit.

The big 2.4 persistence and item system overhaul patch turned out to be bullshit. The game is still waaay too buggy to try to add persistent crime levels or make you pay for ship repairs or respawns yet. I've died several times because my space suit decided to go poof seconds after I stepped into an airlock. (they now make you equip your suit when you log in)

They redid the keybindings, for no good reasons, the new system seems designed by someone who never played a video game in their life..

They replaced the hated holotable ship modification system with an even more obnoxious system that has you running around your ship trying to click on tiny unlabeled blue balls. There's still no way to rent/buy ship components in-game. They *still* haven't added the new shield component system yet, so 90% percent of the ships are crippled in combat because they're stuck with their under-powered default shields. And still no actual cargo mechanic.

All the newer ships seems to be hyper specialized to enforce group play and encourage people to own multiple ships. The early multi-role concepts have been abandoned and it seems functions like repairs, mining, and salvaging will need specially designed ships, rather than be something you can mod your shp to do. The new entry level mining ship they introduced, for instance, has weaker guns and shields than the game's shitty starter ship and can only actually hold a tiny amount of ore, so the "solo" mining ship actually needs a fighter escort and a cargo ship following him around at all times to do anything.

And finally, I haven't even been able to log into the crusader instance on the test server ever since they opened it up to all the suckers on CIG's worthless subscription plan.

I'm prepping a Dark Heresy campaign for:

Give me ideas the "No Psyker, you are the demonhosts" twist if the guy is reckless is kind of implicit so don't pention it

Why not make a themed group like these guys?

theallguardsmenparty.com/index.html

Like a all Sororitas party, all Arbiter party.
Or base your party on some other fictional group and try to RP them as well as possible?

Put a traitor in group, give him a few chances to feel like shit for betraing his comrades, than give them a few heretical toys that they need to use to survive. And the twist is that original traitor would become loyalist for murdering his comrades who turn to chaos.

Mysterious cult among the high class of a pleasure world, interwebbed in a deep conspiracy.

Turns out nothing heretical was going on and the players are the heretics.

Hope they have enough funds left to tough it out and fix all that.

The earth is flat, there is no space.

Earth is a realm, not a planet.

Your sister is flat and your mom is realm.

go back to the coffin Kirkbride

Is she going to go around buttfucking everything with a chainsword strap-on?

Only after setting said shit on fire I hope.

...

What do you have against retrofuturism user?

It's one of the lowest forms of sci-fi
Gritty 80's sci-fi >> Blocky modern sci-fi >>>>>> Super sleek apple "modern" sci-fi >>> Ye olde technology of tomorrow

If you fought a movie Imperial Star Destroyer, rather than the game version, its anti-fighter turrets would tear you apart if you stopped moving for but a second.

Are there any good Spess games with a non-shit story?

Space Engine isn't a game. It's the equivalent to being a non-corporeal being who can just warp around the universe observing planets and stars, unable to do anything else.
It's pretty as fuck though if you have a nice rig.

Is there a subscription fee for this game?
I kind of want to get into it, and I don't care about the exorbitant price of ships since all I really want to do is be part of somebody elses crew anyways.

Starting to think the CryEngine might not have been the best option for space games.

Strange that Freelancer (partial spiritual predecessor) in 2003 seems to do a lot of these things better, despite also being a shell of the intended results.

Cryengine was made for shitload of stuff on the screen not the black spaces all around.

How and why?

Aight, so we are now getting info from Cryptic on the console port of STO.
Pic related are console and PC versions of UI.

arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/9981193

So,

What are some games like Freelancer?

Arcadey, lotsa ships, that sorta thing.

X3 terran conflict

You can get the game in a package by buying a starter ship. There's no in-game subscription, but there is one that's purely for supporting the game development and the little webshows they do.

Considering sean has detailed and shown off a faction/mission/trading system before and the guy playtesting it hasn't mentioned any of that, the test build is probably missing a few mechanics

You gonna sell him some Enron stock, too?

I never got to try STO. I couldn't get it to install. The arc program would trip and tell me it couldn't log in.

Starpoint Gemini

I am actually afraid to image how much more frustrating space battles would be made if they added realistic anti fighter turrets

Do you mean according to Star Wars lore?

Pretty much Mon Calamari sushi bars would be death incarnate and suicidal to attack with fighters since their turbolasers are fast enough to track small craft and destroy them About the only thing going for the Sushi Bar apart from hard to knock out shield generators

Talking about in general?

It would make things interesting since you would have to knock out turrets first before you could engage the subsystems properly.

Been taking a break from captaining ever since my schoolworkload has increased. Last I was playing Republic at War as the republic, hoping to god they finally finished 1.2. When I get the strategic spark back, I believe I still have to take care of a bunch of capital ship producers and mygeeto before it becomes smooth sailing

I like most things star wars. Republic, rebel, imperial, separatist, etc.

True. In my experience, ship turrets in space battle were never useful. They did zero damage to the opposing ships, and were ineffective against fighters. Which sucks, since I loved using them anyway.

Starpoint Gemini Warlords

you are a faggot

how is it?

Have you tried downloading it through steam?

Posting some Space Engineers builds
1st pic: Harlock Class Frigate, a small battleship bristling with cannons.
2nd Pic: Corvid-Class Strike Fighter, a heavy fighter armed with multiple high powered weapons

3rd pic: Leo-Class Interceptor, a fast fighter armed with a minigun, scatter missiles, and heavy rockets
4th pic: Ikaruga class Airship, a massive luxury ship custom built for a wealthy arms dealer

5th pic: Panther UTV, a remote controlled tank for scouting and reconnaissance, armed with an autocannon turret for engaging a wide range of hostiles.
6th pic: Federation Freighter, a standard model transport craft with a mobile docking arm on top to attach to stations or other ships at various angles.

...

been playing some SPAZ2, so far it's been not so good
building your ship is clunky as fuck and desperately needs to be redone in a non-retarded way
there's absolutely no need to be able to flip-flop and rotate shit that is not cores outside of combat
menus seem clunky and everything looks like it was made for a blind person with large text and itemcards, and this is coming from someone that can't read this text with his left eye
finding weapon/part combinations is a pain in the ass, and the developer will implement a way to make it not random for an in-game fee
after only 9 hours it feels like half the game is in "Arena" simulations at starbases where you can test you skills, and I use the term loosely as I'm sure the ship you fly benefits from you level up selections
the level-up system fucking sucks, it's absolute fucking trash tier 3-option choice that have different stats at different levels and with 1 predetermined stat
I'm only level 16 but I doubt the system will change or get better and I much prefered the old system

let me add that so far the level up system have consisted of +X% health, +X% armor +X%trade, +X% weapon damage, +X% reload speed, +X% boost capacity and +X% boost recharge speed
the pre-determined stats have been +1 core and +1 additional small fighter ship carry capacity (for a lack of a better term) or +1 small fighter active during battles
ship parts seems to be locked behind levels instead of stats for the weapons as in the first game

Battlefront 2 had a lot of nostalgia elements to it. I personally couldn't get past that a lot of the weapons seemed like alpha placeholders and capital ships seemed very undergunned.

60's retro sci-fi is best sci-fi.

Another user with great taste

Star Ruler 2

I hate this game. I fucking hate this game.

An empire of my size has 10 times more money.

My carrier fleet (I'm still early game) with optimal/cheaty designs (which I got off the internet) is instantly vaporized by a fleet with ungodly amounts of firepower (170+ compared to my 37k. Their flagship is 500 size, when the HELL did they build that thing?)
I can't even escape, because his fleet jumps instantly while mine needs time to charge drives.

I have a 250 size battleship almost finished constructing, but I'm spiraling into bankrupcy.
The AI's homeworld is maxed out. HOWOWOOWOWOWOWOWOW????
What kind of bullshittery is this?
I expanded carefully to not over-extended and picked planets carefully, and my empire grew to decent size and political power, yet this same-size empire absolutely murders me in an instant.

Fuck this game.
Fuck the universe.
Fuck everything.

my nigga, I'll accept 50's too

infinite space was a great great game

Stellaris is very comfy in my experience

Partisan taste

After reaching the midway point my save file was corrupted so i never had a chance to end it but it was a really good game when I wasn't lost and could remember where I had to go.

Ragno Fortress on some kind of desert planet.
Situated in a big crater, it's the centerpiece of what will eventually be a city.

There's no atmosphere, so I'm wondering if I should do everything enclosed, or "open air" and rely on people to use their space suits and air locks properly.

No way, man.

It certainly was.

At least i got my emulator.

Never rely on people being not stupid.
Make it as fool proof as possible.
Build a fucking giant glass dome if you must.

Build a fortress monastery

God, I love that picture. Reminds me of a lego ship.

…makes me wish there was a space gamethat's sort of like minecraft. Your mothership is a base and you come back to it after getting resources.

anyone know if this game is any good? if not got any good fleet based games?
store.steampowered.com/app/371010/

Sins of a solar Empire or Empire at war

OH BOY!

Wow, it's absolutely nothing.

...

Why are most Mars games the same?

There aren't that many games set on Mars but the ones I've played were pretty different:
A 2D platformer thing
Action RPG
FPS
Horror FPS
Tactical squad based x-com clone
4X
Classic RPG

Then there's the original Doom and the first episode of Commander Keen but those were too abstract for it to really matter.

Isn't X3 basically EVE offline, aka autismus maximus?

Yes

...

semi automate the airlocks
going from inside to outside should
then inside the airlock have another button panel to
on one of the buttons labeled going out

for going in just reverse the order so that you
then inside the airlock on another button on the panel have it trigger

adding a failsafe involves making sure both airlock doors are allways closed and turned off by turning them on, closing them and then turning them off again before going from inside the base into the airlock and going from outside into the airlock

That looks fucking good. The red/white ship design has a Terran (From X series) feel on them

>after a small set of missions you get snatched out of the 23rd century and into the rest of the 25th century shitshow
Cryptic seems to enjoy dropping the ball extremely hard.

You don't know the half of it.

It's always amazing when I find people saving my screenshots
the JJ stuff is something I have been dreading for years now

I'm fucking done.

Shh shh, no tears, only T6 JJprise now

Does that mean it'll blow up during every mission?

Like it does in the movie.

Here's the data the miners found.

Of course, we all remember when every single starship carried around a huge number of auxiliary warp cores, don't we? No need to have a massive warp system around it to keep the antimatter stable.

And that's not all, there are confirmed stats of 3 other ships.

Sure know how to alienate their audience don't they. Only reason I was still playing was because it was the last Star Trek thing untainted by JJ's shitty universe.

Now it's dead to me too.

There's going to be a new TV series for CBS in 2017, with Roddenberry's son on the production team. Pretty sure it's also unrelated to JJ's universe as well.

I read about that. Something about it being set between the Undiscovered country and TNG in the prime universe?

What the fuck was the undiscovered country?

Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country. The last adventure of the original Enterprise crew.

The one with peace talks with klinks and assassination attempts and that one Klink quoting Shakespeare?
It wasn't half bad to be honest.
Hopefully this means that they will bring the best uniforms back.

Fucking underrated post.

With the exception of NMS and OW I have pretty much given up on space games at this point. I sort of just want to read science fiction short stories at this point but I have no idea where I would start and SJWs have killed the genre so any recent works are pretty much out of the question.

...

...

Isaac Asimov.

You're welcome.

...

...

Fuck mane, how hard is it to make a game with an assload of customizable ships.

Son what's the matter with you?

I've seen that same image with same filename posted like eight times today. Either that or the fever is kicking in again.

Maybe someone is using the same reaction pic just because he can't be bothered to have some collection of them?

Random Star Trek pic hardly a meme in itself and "hhheehehe" is a meme already.

HAHAHA

nichegamer.com/2016/05/26/rumor-no-mans-sky-delayed-to-unknown-date/

Is it safe to say that the developers of this tech demo had no idea how to actually turn it into a game? And they still don't?

I must just be going nuts, apologies anons.

Finally got around to checking out Aurora 4X and looks fucking fun.

Yeah the other user got it completely right. I'm too lazy to have a cool Trek reaction image collection. It's all good buddy.

I am not surprised at all. To think I bought into the hype for a couple of minutes and almost actually preordered the thing. Shame on me.

Yes, I think there might be a correlation there. It's a fun game, I just wish it was properly moddable.

I guess I shouldn't be but I am definitely surprised it's delayed again so close to release.

I'm actually looking forward to it. Even if I'm probably never going to buy it. I just want to finally see what the game is like for myself.

Same, I know exactly what it's going to be, which is Starbound 3d. But still I want to look at it, perhaps due to morbid curiosity.

are we really gonna believe Kotaku now?

This image is amazing and I wish it were a wall paper.

Agreed, I am not going to buy or play the game but I will need more evidence than that.

bump

so, uh
been playing some E:D and doing some shit for the community goal from last week
never knew there's stupid amount of money to get from doing that shit
sadly I got blown up repeatedly so I won't be making much of a profit

...

...

It's hurts even more when the game they came from gave me hopes of that happening.

Ehh, it's fine. Not releasing an early access tier version is pretty novel these days. They've already turned it into a game but I imagine that polishing something of that scope must be a nightmare.

That's science fiction 101, already read most of his works. The Foundation trilogy is one of my favorites in the genre.

I just want games with a robot waifu. Is love of Clang so much of a crime?

there are some books with a shit load of short stories that won prizes way back in the day, i bet you can find them in a bookstore real cheap

i liked the short story about the kid and the door traveling devices
"I went outside to see what fucking color was my house"
shit was great

Whate are y alistenin' to while conquering space?

...

what happened to that one game called mandrake or something?

The Mandate is still being developed

I know but when

No release has been given yet.

you have a link to their site please?

They usually update their kick starter first

kickstarter.com/projects/1964463742/the-mandate

mandategame.com/

thanks mate, can't wait

Me neither

If Keen Software House actually added a story mode or something to Space Engineers, it'd be perfect.

That, and if they add more space cowboy stuff
Like a motherfucking SHOTGUN goddammit.

I had this working on a Carrier but it was a bitch and a half to set up.

I'll probably do like enclosed highways with buildings/towers in between them, and then big semi-auto airlocks at each end.

Hangars will have personnel-sized airlocks that exit to open air hangars, with connector systems to transfer cargo to and from ships that dock in the hangar.

Wanting weapons of mass destruction in space

Not planned. Game is basically finished according to their design-doc. Nothing will be addad besides that. But mods, probably, yes.

>GameStop corporate said the release date was no longer accurate

Did you think they were moving the release date forward, dipshit?

The Mandate development drives crazy. Any kind of communication with the fans comes so infrequently it feels like the game has to be dead, but the updates when they come are so professional and coherent they still make it seem like everything is going as planned.

Pulsar. It's very buggy right now, though and you'll probably uninstall it out of anger after some time.

I feel the same way. Don't end up like me

The problem with the devs is just a general lack of creativity.

Are the devs doing anything right now?

No official news, if they're smart they're working on an expansion. But knowing how many expansions Torchlight got, it's unlikely.

I had a sensor activated airlock in a creative world with everything set up to trigger each sequence as you rubbed your face on the doors but it appears as though I've lost it
was going to improve it by making it into a modular section that you have to dock to your station or ship and hook it up with connectors for the air supply so you can easily just massproduce them in a printer
I actually booted up the game and started building a new airlock but setting up the timer blocks with the right timing and sequence is sort of nightmarish if you want to use the least amount of timer blocks possible
got it down to I think 10 timers for each sequence of going in or out but only got the "going out" up and running before running out of steam
it's not perfectly to my liking, the timing is a little off, and I haven't solved the whole modular docking bit but that should be an easy thing to do
I realy like the idea of having your whole station made up of standardized modules that you can just print out whenever you need one

Find out what the fuck is going on, and do so fast, or the governor is going to get lynched.
The Farmers are all hiding something, but in the end it turns out, that only one of them was the heretic who wanted to cause this rebellion.

Anyone have the link for the russian website with Stellaris mods?

Just got Distant Worlds.

How fucked am I?

I don't think anything for the sort, but I refuse to believe secondhand info like this

stellaris.smods.ru

Don't know why you'd bother though, Stellaris feels like a polished beta build that Paradox released knowing they could sell the goyim the rest of the game.

get ready for those bitcoin mining viruses!

So is STO worth geting into or is it shit

anyone playin endless space?

I'll play with you sometime if you like.

...

i tried to like it, but i just ignored everything expect for the kid and his semen demon elf space adventures.

...

It's pretty shit.
T: played it for past 6 or so years.

Though, if you want to start playing it, now is a pretty good time as you get a free tier 6 ship during the summer event which starts week after next week.
Also during summer we are supposed to get a TOS era expansion where you can make a TOS era character.

I really wish it had spinal mounted guns, or at least forward mounted versions of the broadsides on some ships. I hate having to chase enemy ships down and maneuver to fire the broadsides just to get that extra bit of damage. You would think the larger ships would have forward mounted guns or something.

To be honest, I'd play this shit.

Game release when?

OK, I finally Got Gud and now I have the second most powerful empire (actually first. I stole all parts of the Revenenant from other empires with tractor ships, blew them up and re-activated them).

Now I have the most powerful ship in the universe. After blowing up several Revenant fleets, the Revenent got attacked by a Hive fleet of mere 4M. I laughed as my 100% heatly super-ship turned to face them…. and then it exploded.

What warp sorcery is this? The game is shitting me.
I can still win without it, since my own super-ship is about the finish construction, but WHAT. THE. FUCK.???

WATWATWATWATWATWATWAT????

you can smuggle shit in Elite: Dangerous
it's not too exciting though and you have to pretend that you're smuggling ayylmao porn

You can also smuggle real Slaves or legally sell them in the Imperium. The most interesting moments consist of finding free shit on some moon anyway. At least the ones that are most interesting for me.

I haven't bought Horizons and I don't think I will unless it goes on a crazy sale
them wanting more money for being able to land on planets than I payed for the base game tanked my will to throw away what little money I have

To elaborate on this a bit (since thread is pretty dead anyways so i might as well ramble a bit).

...

one of you memeloving fucks did this, didn't you?

What game fam?

Elite: Dangerous
which got pretty fucking dangerous this week with the bugged NPCs

How so? Did every NPC turn into Darkwing duck?

Did the Nigs finally master space travel?

some of them got plasma accelerators that shoot like they're machine guns, which will fuck you all they way through from your butthole to your mouth hole
some of them have super boosted maneuverability due to modded thrusters, so you can't shake them and allways have them poking you in the butt
the NPCs are basically cheating

this is what I mean

they're not supposed to shot that fucking fast
a medium 2C fixed plasma accelerator have a rate of fire of 0.3/s
the 3B advanced plasma accelerator, which is the one we see in the video, has a rate of fire of 1.67/s

That's horrifying.

I am not surprised that's what happened to it. I started just before it went F2P and it was actually a decent game underneath that was overall unfinished. The lockboxes really did kill it badly and I left before the Romulans came as the game was getting more "no fun allowed" and all about the grind. I actually miss doing the shuttle missions as a KDF carrier group, that bug was hilarious.

Is Elite: Dangerous good?
It looks good at a glance and it seems popular, but a lot of people don't seem to like it.

Id say what actually ruined the game was delta rising, the second expansion.
Not only because it added Talaxians and because the plot of that story arc revolved around Delta quadrant and us trying to fix Voyagers shits, but also because of the power creep and of course the changing of NPCs power levels in STFs.

The thing is that they turned STF enemies into damage sinks that dealt roughly the same amount of damage as death star does.
They did get nerfed after that, but the damage was already done.
Suddenly the STF's turned into full hard mode and this scared loads of people away, most of which were pakleds.
But still, considering that your average player was and is a Pakled just means that the game started turning into a ghost town.

In short, the power gap between freshly leveled up level 60 player and one who has grinded himself some high level gear was made pretty damn obvious.

Yes and no.

Pros:
- Absolutely gorgeous, and visuals are improving over time.
- Really good sound design.
- If you're into VR it's one of the few games that handles VR well.
- Incoming updates seem as though they'll be improving the game.
- The spaceflight is fun. It's dogfighting in space, not newtonian, but it's fun.

Cons:
- No story.
- No serious NPC interaction.
- Minimal depth (this has been getting slightly better with time though)
- Devs don't playtest so you get retarded shit like the current NPCs.
- Going from system to system is a huge pain. This isn't so bad if you're space trucking, but if you're trying to, say, get to a community goal or you want to switch ships and the ship you have is far away or if you want to play with a friend and they aren't near you, you have to invest a big chunk of time into watching a series of hyperspace jumps, aka not really gameplay, just wastes your time. I guess it's not that bad for NEETs but if you have a job and it takes half an hour to get from one place to another in E:D, that's a big chunk of your free time wasted watching what amounts to a loading screen. This is part of the "no playtesting" problem, the devs don't sit through that shit, they just spawn their ship wherever they want it. So they have no idea how unfun and tedious it is.
- Limited ship customization. Engineers mitigated this a bit.
- Gets grindy after a while, and sure, most games do, but E:D is so big that you expect it to last much longer.

Variable:
- It is still under development so it has room to improve. Conversely this also means it's unfinished.

tl;dr it's fun to jump in for a bit but doesn't have lasting value. This may improve in time or may not.

If you want a game that's like a sliver of what E:D could be if the devs handle it right (eg the scope is much smaller but the depth is huge) try The Precursors.

One question remains though.

Is there a biggest shill than Pecisk?

It'd help if we knew who that is.

excellent taste. designing ships in that game was hours of fun and I wish other space games would have that kind of modularity and depth in their ship customization

I liked Red Mars a lot, especially the chapters of the main character wandering alone the Mars outback.

I just recently got enough credits to by another T7 after losing the first to a lone pirate
maybe it was a federal agent, was aligned with Aisling Duval and doing the community shit in federation space
hadn't done any powerplay shit anyway so the only thing I lost from defecting was the timegated shit, which I wasn't benefitting from anyways
been doing the community trade for 2 days or something, trying to push the mission up to the next tier but just ferrying cargo is too comfy and I fall asleep if I do it for too long

it has potential to be great but it's not at the moment and I don't think they will implement the little things that will make it great without trying to skin you of all your money
you have to pay real money for different paintjobs and decals for example
ship customization is bland and there seems to be only 1 real setup per ship
don't know anything about engineers or if people who haven't bought Horizons even get access to them for a bit deeper ship customization or should I say randomization with a chance to get lucky?
alot of things are cumbersome, like long distance travel as pointed out by
if you're not swimming in credits and don't have a ship with a high jump distance it takes ages to go anywhere
with cr you can just buy a ship and fit it for long range jumps and sell it when you get there and rebuy your other ship, but only if there is a shipyard in the system with the ship and modules you want
and there is no way in game to know what ships and modules a station have before going there
there's also no way of knowing what commodities are sold and at what prices without going there or using external tools, but maybe I'm missing something

Hello thumbnail.

...

i hate flags sometimes

Wait what? Didn't they say that they were going to add liquid physics or at least water?

I wanna build an underwater dome :3

If you're not gonna learn to play then don't act surprised when even the AI shits on you. They killed your command centers.

Good. Space dandy is flavor of the month garbage comparable to Kill le Kill

Im sure we will able to do that in the new battlefront 2, user!

Kill yourself

It hurts

So anons, any games I can play with a friend in a space campervan and go for a comfy as fuck adventure around the stars?

wait for no man's sky, bruh

Hello darkness my old friend

Isn't that more like Noctis tho? Will you actually get to meet other people?

wait for star citizen, bruh
you can play freelancer in coop

How about we all just sit down, cease our hostilities and play the best space game of all time; Thief 2014

it hurts

spess

...

I'm making my own space game since I'm completely unsatisfied with everything else.

So far I have a carrier you can fly around with turrets you can control, and you can launch a fighter with physics-based flight, shoot asteroids, and shitty enemy AI that flies at you and shoots.

I want to make it an open world space-pirate type game, where you warp your capital ship around and do various things. And can steal other ships to add them to your fleet which at the end of the game is used in a big battle over Earth.

Do any anons want to be involved in any way? Either giving ideas or helping me make it, or if you have AGDG skill that. I'm using Unreal 4 so I can even teach you how to use that if you never have before, it's really fun, no coding required.

Can you walk around outside the ship?

what is the level of waifus are you aiming for?
any qt AI ship voices?

Lmao I actually paid this chick 5$ on fiverr for good audio, she recorded some qt ai audio for me. Yes.

Yeah I have an FPS mode, you can get out of your ship and explore your capital ship / space stations when I add those

Can you post a webm of flying in action?

You have my hopes in your hand now user

That never works well user, you usually just end up with tonnes of copypasted content for space stations and walking in a spaceship rarely amounts to anything. And all it does is make it take longer to develop a single ship until you become the next Star Citizen.

Yeah I've been thinking about this, I might drop it all together. I haven't done any FPS stuff beyond a blockout. It was for RP/Immersion reasons

I'm thinking of instead allowing the player to switch between ships and possess different ones as the gimmick. Like fly the carrier, look at a ship you want to fly (or bring up a menu), view switches to that ship.

On the other hand, disagrees

Sure give me a min, I borked the flight system recently.

I also have 4 flight systems. A physics based one, a math based one, and then for both of those I have two methods -

Throttle based (you have a min speed and a max speed, when you increase throttle, your ship will travel at that speed until your change your throttle)

And thrust based - you must hold W to go forward, and your ship will counter thrust to stop if you aren't

Personally I prefer thrust based, but I'm not sure others will. They might be more accustomed to the Elite Dangerous method.

Thoughts?

I'll post that webm soon, let me make

That sort of FPS mechanic works best in a Sci Fi RPG where you can buy ships and fly them on top of whatever RPG mechanics you have, allowing you to get away with less variety in ships. If you still want to do the FPS part, I could try to help you with the RPG design.

I'm still adjusting it, I think I need better forward speed, but I have 6DoF and such

Also getting 120 FPS on a 660 with 1000 destructible asteroids using my new method :^)

Why does this not surprise me?

Beautiful, did you decide a name for the game yet? I really want to keep track of the progress you will make.

How is this thread 16 days old

doing gods work, user. if you know anyone doing theatre/acting in some school you should hire those instead, talk to their drama teacher for some good cheap VA.

looks nice i hope you keep on working on it
anyway to keep an eye on you?
you are going to post here or in the game dev general thread?

I would also like to know this, I love well-running space games, it's a shame nobody really makes them.

Listen to this user! You'll re-develop X-Rebirth if you don't!

Ship boarding should be based on mercenary marines that you hire and have to pay. On capture mechanics, you should work out some kinda combat system (maybe dice-based??) that handles it under the hood with a slick GUI.
Don't forget cool audio snippets! The only thing I liked about X3's boarding system where the sounds of your marines fighting through enemy ships.

Give it a Spengie capacity to interact with computer systems in terms of resource distribution and your game will be infinitely better than whatever a million dollar budget can conjure.

Dear God no please that is cancer.

I have a few names in mind, I'm thinking of going with The Void Between Stars.

I'm also thinking of releasing a demo and launching a goystarter with it called Siege of Sol. I have a somewhat flushed out story who's mid-point climax is a battle over Earth, so I was thinking I could make a demo out of that scene I'm building anyway, to try and get people hooked and give me money to invest in my game.

I might also name it Void Rats 2 as I have another "mini-game" that I was making before VR that's kinda far along, but it's a 2D game. It's story takes place before this games story.

The easiest way to keep in track of me is my youtube channel: youtube.com/channel/UCgRPPSQK_r4ynfwQ6rdHFoA

I always lurk here though and post somewhat regularly, and /agdg/

On the subject of FPS: I wanted to include this just because I'm making my game VR compatible, and I kind of thought it'd be neat to raid and try and steal ships. So not an advanced FPS system, just small close quarters kill a few enemies and get to the bridge.

But I hear where you guys are coming from. Maybe a homeworld style "order a raiding ship to do it" would do. Adding FPS elements is more effort and I'm one goy.

Still working on the space stuff before worrying about that anyway, but yeah.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this, do you mean like Elite Dangerous' power management system?

Also vid related is my progress from several months ago. I've started my project from scratch for VR (but importing all my work from the old project to save time [Also my game will work nonVR])

That sounds kinda generic to me.

For VR, limit that to ships. And, for the capturing of ships, you could add where you control the marine in Zero-G as he breaches the hull. That would be cool, and you'd have no need to worry about ship interiors.

You could implement that as a manual override to a capture mechanic. Say that you have 33% to breach. Take control of a marine and do it yourself, or click a button and gamble.

What I'm saying is: Focus on what you can do in space before you worry about shit that takes place inside things. Otherwise, you'll just be wasting time trying to be star citizen

Dunno how to put it.

Chris Robert's aim with Star Citizen is to implement a system called pipelining, where the ship actually "does things" (a bit like ED's power management, but with a marginal degree of complexity).

What both lack is a sophistication that goes beyond Artemis, a bridge simulator. If you had a greater level of engineering accessibility for basic ship components, even if it was just a manipulation of value modifiers, you'd be designing your game around what you want your player to do with the game mechanics you build on top of it.

A bit like a protocol stack I guess.

So basically, you want me to expose things like how much thrust certain thrusters can apply, or how much damage weapons can do, and other variables like that. You want me to expose their multipliers so the player can choose to boost certain things?

Is that sort of what you mean?

I could do that. I could put in a screen that would allow you to buff the multipliers for each variable (Fire rate, projectile speed, engine thrust, accelleration, etc) and apply drawbacks. Assuming you mean that.

Wouldn't be tough.

Basically. But with an in-universe rationale.

Giving the player the bare circuitry and a host of decisions to make so that when they do focus on gameplay and challenges, they can approach a battle or whatever however they prefer.

If it doesn't work or adds nothing, you could just strip it. If it does, maybe you could develop it further.
