I honestly couldn't tell you. I plan to work with UE4 or Unity and my knowledge of C(More specifically C# and more-so C++) only allows me to make basic calculators at this point. I've got a friend who's real good at coding coming back from his college finals in a few days and he's promised to help me git gud at coding.
It's still mostly in the planning phases but in UE4 I've already got the basic player movement and basic projectile working the way I want. It's probably at least two years out(That's an optimistic estimate), and if I did end up charging money for it I'd probably make it $20 and have it be $10 on launch day.
Thankfully I'm an artfag so if I can learn to code the only thing I really need at that point is an audio guy and a music guy.

I haven't played it and doubt I will. But the main problem I saw from gameplay videos was all the ripping and tearing shit was tedious. It gives you health and invincibility frames too which makes you stupid for shooting them instead of tearing them apart. In Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge, you could do this and you would gain a sliver of health back. It also gave you invincibility frames. Difference here though is that a handicapped enemy can use a kamikaze grapple attack to fuck your shit up so you had to know how to approach them in the heat of battle to get rid of them. Letting them sneak up on your could mean instant death. In DOOM, you're completely safe and they even make the faggots glow to know when to tear them.

Chainsaw also being a ammo dispenser instead of a actual weapon also seems kind of upsetting. Mind you, I have never actually played Doom myself so I'm judging this as a stand alone game. Backlog too massive to play Doom, I already have enough games to play at the moment.

If they weren't present you'd still have developers dumbing down their games for the casual dollar and cutting out more than half the content for DLC and Microtransactions.
