Mega Man DS games

So, I've been thinking of replacing a game in my DS collection with one of the pics related. Which one should I get and why? I might get two, but I'll probably get just one for now.

I would say zero collection since its a couple games in one cartridge

I was considering that too. I played the original Zero as well as own ZX and enjoyed them both. I just wanted a second opinion on these ones since BN5 is my favorite of the series, but my copy of Colonel is dead and I've heard that Star Force 3 is GOAT.

I've never been a fan of BN and never played Star Force, so my vote goes with Zero despite you having played it before. If you like BN though, I think BN5 was supposed to be okay.

Like I said, BN5 was my favorite installment of the series, followed by 3 and 6. But yeah. I may have played the first Zero, but I've yet to play Zero 2,3, and 4.

I'm playing Battle Network right now actually.

Does the series stay this fun?

Pretty much. It only really disappoints in 4 which has a completely garbage plot.

Star force 3 is the best of the trilogy, but you'll still want to start with one. Don't touch 2 though, it's pretty much Filler.

Any particular reason why except for plot reasons? If not, I could just watch a vid on it or emulate 1.

He knocks someone out with the pet

I'd go with collection since it has more games and a lot more hours of gameplay

Get BN5, dude. Battle Network is one of my personal favorites, I remember gushing for years about this game as a kid, I still find myself picking it up for my phone every once in a while, though I recommend you not read any story, like, at all. The japs made the story for kids, but the gameplay is undeniably fun.

If you want to get crazy with it, my negro, you could look for a copy of ZX / Advent and get the same MMZ style with some more abilities. The 'characters' are more edgy, but the same argument as before; killer gameplay.

However I warn you

Starforce in general is proof that they managed to casualize a semi-niche game, it's like battle network but without the ability to move freely, and without the added layer of "x move reaches x ahead but not z or y" that's associated with fighting on a grid.

TL/IMFUCKINGSTUPIDANDDONTLIKEOPINIONSXDDDD

ANY battle network games if you like not jumping but like shooting

ANY Zero / ZX game because you like jumping, shooting, and dashing

NO starforce games because gimped systems and fugly battles

Already got ZX and I am a big fan of BN as well, just wanted to know if I should go for 5's DS version. I'm just trying to get everyone's thoughts before I purchase one of them. I'm leaning with Zero Collection with all the recommendations.

Aile is love.
Aile is life.

Megaman Zero games are much more enjoyable to play on an emulator imo, you can map the controls to whatever you feel comfortable with and you don't get hand cramps from playing for hours on end; not to mention cheats. It makes farming for the junk armor in MMZ4 less bothersome.

DT is the definite BN5 version. with the only "BAD" thing being the voice acting, Because Megaman Voice Acting.

Improves streadily into 3, takes a dive for 4 and then gets back to 2/3 levels of fun.

It is pretty hilarious how close reality has become to BN now with Online reliance though.

Because if you've played the first game, all you're going to get with 2 is more of the same, Capcom got lazy as fuck with that game like they did with BN4, and the end result is a game that just adds a few new battle chips and an edgier version of bass.

…There's voice acting in DT? Please tell me its only for cutscenes or some shit.

In battle.

I meant in playing the first one.

Christ, OP, you have to make me work with great choices.

Battle Network 5's one of the best and with both versions on the cartridge it'll keep you busy for a long while, ZX is great for letting you finally play as the fucking Four Guardians but no vanilla Model Z and a badly-designed Metroidvania layout for the overworld, ZX Advent gives you Model X with a homing shot that's supposed to be Axl but lets you play as bosses (and introduces charged shots/sabers needed weapon energy for Model ZX since you're copying other biometal forms), Star Force 3 is easily the best duo of games in its series and reaches Battle Network levels of quality.

Zero Collection is great too and lets you dick around with the E-Reader card functions for Zero 3 that never made it to the States because of the system's unpopularity. Zero 4's the best in the series

Mega Man/protoman/colonel take up the bottom touch screen and say things occasionally. Also they sometimes speak in battle, and lan voices the Jack In line. Other than that there's nothing, kinda sucks though because they got different VAs for some reason.

Is it only the normal kind, ie damage and victory or did they add a lot?

I haven't played Blue Moon yet, what's wrong with it?

Battle start, victory and "What is it, Lan?" if you press L to talk to your navi, and that's about the extent of it that I remember.

I remember there's a couple unique things to it depending on the GBA game you had put in Slot 2, I definitely remember a Solar Boy Django transformation for Mega Man if you had a Boktai game in.

Its 3 tournament plots stitched together with a planet-destroying meteor pulled out of the game's ass at the last second so that way it feels like you're saving the world in the end.

Not really, other than being cheaper/easier to find but that doesn't seem to be a problem. Personally though i liked the story to 1, Geo has much more of an arc to him than lan did.

Shit, meant to quote

Well that sounds pretty shitty.
I'll play later for morbid curiosity now.

Multiple playthroughs are required to get all of the chips.

Bad Translation, Even by Capcom Standards
Backtracking
PLAY THE GAME 3 TIMES.
Legit carts are unable to be played on a DS due the Copy protection (Crashes Woodmans Scenario)
Souls and Navicust are a step back from Styles/Navicust from 3.
No real Scenarios, only BACKTRACKING the normal Internet Areas with Gimmicks, with 3 ones that are arguable having: An unbeatble boss, a boss you need to use a Dark Chip on that is also the same one as the previous "Incident" in a area with horrible music, and lastly The "final" boss.

And MORE, this is doubly jarring because 3 was very good.

If anything, it gets better

It peaks with 3, 4 and 5 are gimmicks(but if you like stuff like shining force or Fire emblem 5 is pretty good), and 6 is good.

the first one is the second weakest in the series (the worst being 4) aside from those two, things get better. Good luck with elec man

So I ended up spending more than I might have wanted this week, but I ended up getting Zero Collection AND BN5. Thanks to all the anons who helped. Saging so the thread can die peacefully.

I leave you with MM8.

Command Missions VA was pretty top tier. Mark Gatha is the best X, and whoever voiced Massimo and Spider certainly earned their pay.

Funny you post since since the DS BN5 has Megaman 8 tier voice work.

I would have gone with Starforce 3 myself.

Oh. Well if its that level then at least I'll get a good laugh out of it.

The zero collection contains 4 really fucking amazing games, get it right now

what

Already did, buddy.

>He hasn't jacked into a Bear yet

Voice acting in Double Team is shitacular.
I stopped at Starforce 1 because it limited combat movement to right one square and left one square, so I can't comment on how 3 is.
Zero series is pretty good, so I would go with that, even if it does destroy my enlarged hands at my later age.

Say I've never played the Zero games because they're on DS and the screens look tiny. Should I just get over my faggotry and play them? Are the that good?

Why not just buy a flash cartridge OP?
It would probably net you less and you could play every megaman ds game there is.

Or just emulate it.

play four at the same time

Zero series was on GBA and had a DS collection, the ZX series was the one on DS

You can emulate them. If you have a PSP softmodded for GBA emulation that would be an ideal choice for a slightly larger screen, but they're perfectly playable both on the original GBA's screen and on a big PC screen in my experience.

He forgot to mention this

Cause I'm a buyfag.

They were originally on the GBA and the collection on DS is just a cart with all of them on there. I can't vouch for 2-4, but I can definitely say 1 is pretty solid. If you want a meaty challenge, the Zero series will definitely be up your alley.

So are the star force games any good? I played the BN series

2 and the crossover are lousy, but 1 and 3 are pretty great..

Kek

You need to beat the game 3 times to get to the post-game. The vast majority of the game is joining a tournament and doing annoying little events before the main battle begins.

The game also has some difficulty issues because of the multiple playthroughs because some of the boss rematch encounters are designed with you being on your 3rd playthrough in mind. This means you can encounter a 1000 HP Aquaman DS in the first internet area early in the game while you're still using those 40 damage cannons, and you can't run from him.

Oh fuck that guy.

The bosses in Starforce need to be harder. The game gives you too many ways to do massive damage.

Actually, it's an 1800 HP AquaManSP.
And if you're on Red Sun, it's a 1700 HP GutsManSP in the 2nd area.

Damn, maybe I do need to look into getting into Star Force sometime.

...

...

...

Haha, goddamn.

If navigating the maps and story didn't take so long I'd be tempted to do another few playthroughs of 4

BN 3 will always be my favorite though

Fun fact: Most of the bosses in the series do a "teleport" when they move between panels. There's actually a short split-second where they're not on either panel, and can't be hit at all. You can see this if you use a chip that freezes time.

Are you at the "Isle" level?

On the subject of teleporting bosses, when a Boss teleports into your side for an attack, if you place a rock cube in the spot they left, when they are done with the attack they teleport into the cube and take 200 damage.

Rock cube is my chipfu, I run them in every deck.

Yeah oran island, i restarted the game since I had it as a kid but could never find the heart to erase old save data until just yesterday

I've been hearing the BGM since I've seen your image, and now I have to play some BN, it's your fault

Why do I know this shit ?
I shouldn't know this shit, but I do

If you want more Battle Network, in case you don't know about it yet, I recommend you check out Shanghai.EXE, a BN/Touhou mashup. Unfortunately, it's Japanese only (so far) so you'll have a hard time knowing what to do sometimes (unless you know Jap/have a translator).
It's still in development and you can follow progress here: twitter.com/Shanghai_EXE

Yes please

Huh ? ….. and I thought I kept up with BN games

Turns out it's because EXE and Zero were supposed to be trilogies. They got 4th games at the last minute, and it shows in how haphazard and unplanned BN4's content was.

The implications of Zero 4 not supposed to having happened are interesting.

I find it harder to believe that Zero was supposed to be a trilogy, considering they haven't killed off Weil yet.

That's every Megaman except for Legends and maybe original.

Command Mission was pretty good. I liked it, along with this new waifu. The ost was pretty godlike too.

best villain in series

If they both were friends and both sciences were supported, BN charasters would likely have ended up a bunch of fat asses barring Wily popping a hateboner for the humans.

I'm not familiar with the BN series. Did Wily give said robots an internet connection? Otherwise, wouldn't they be pretty much unstoppable?

No, but you can jack Megaman.exe into any modern electronic device. This involves running up to the robot and plugging him in though.

Does he have some kind of universal adapter, or did Wily seriously give the robots a port that someone could plug a Navi into?

He gave robots a port that someone could plug a Navi into.

Well, this is the alternate version of the guy who thought building a robot out of wood was a good idea, so I guess it's par for the course.

Xebec is lewd as fuck.

So both games should arrive today. Will post pics when I have my hands on them.

He's pretty much immortal.

Starforce 3 was a beautiful game.

Sucks it wasn't them that got the new Megaman series. I still haven't really watched Battle Network beyond what was shown on KidsWB.

Damn it, reposted pic.

The Starforce anime was pretty good based on the little I saw. I wish finding the basic BN anime undubbed wasn't such a pain in the ass. I had found it once, then my harddrive died and I couldn't remember the link.

As promised, here ya go, Holla Forums. Arrived 3 days after the thread was created. Surprisingly fast.

5 minutes into BN5DS and already I'm both laughing at the cringeworthy voice acting and at the same time wishing I could turn it off.

By the way Starforce 3 also has English voice acting.

Very, very little , even less that BN5 but yes it does.

Couldn't they have given that at least a couple more lines?

m8, they were too jewish to even get the voice actors from the Kids WB cartoon back to do the voices

I wish I'd get to listen to the music but looks like I'll be playing this one muted. Megaman.EXE sounds edgy and probably has Lan's voice actor too. But its a small price to pay I suppose. I'm almost to Colonel, which is probably where I'll stop.

At least do the first liberation mission, since it's 5's major gimmick.

I understand this picture.

I see what you did there.

I suppose I should. I guess I just underestimated how tiring the voice acting would get.

On the first liberation mission. Can at least say that Colonel's voice actor did not disappoint and is at least slightly good. Well. Compared to everyone else so far.

1 is fun, but it is the worst of the series. Just too rough gameplay wise (fucking escort mission and grinding) and the music is shockingly bad for the most part.

It does introduce some of the best tracks in the series though, with X The Legend and Neo Arcadia, but overall the sound design is just flat and boring.

2 and 3 are top tier, best new music with returning leitmotifs from 1. 4 is great too, just not quite as great as 3.

If you want more, ZX is a pretty good follow up, but the game takes on a Castlevania style map so most people have trouble getting to each level. ZX Advent is the sequel, adds even more gameplay variety, but each new element feels a little half-baked. Decent voice acting is added, but for your own good just play as the girl she has the best charge shot anyway

I could go on about the individual flaws and assets of each game, but I'm already rambling for an initial post so I'll cut it here.

nice, good work user. good work.

There are still so many questions, all we really need to wrap up the X series is a command mission 2 to explain Axel and Spider's origins, and a classic X game to lead into Zero 1 and we'd be set.

I hope we hear more music in Command Mission's style someday.

I need to rebuy a copy of Zero Collection. After a few years of looking the cartridge itself is still lost within the depths of my parents house.

Do your laundry faggot

Alright, finished the first mission, so now I'm gonna switch over to Zero Collection.

I find myself already doing way better at Zero than I did before when I first played it. I made sure to play the harder, cut up version. Because easy mode is for pussies.

There was a classic X game that lead up into Zero 1. It was literally supposed to be X5. But Capcom got too jewish and demanded more sequels.

They've put Zero in that fucking pod like, 3 times now. One of these days it'll take.
