Comcast to increase its datacap from 300GB to 1TB in June

Comcast to increase its datacap from 300GB to 1TB in June.

how does this affect you, Anons? what do you think of datacaps in general?

Is it time to maybe start thinking about creating a more private network that doesn't rely on existing structure? You know, go back to very local lan for gaming?

I only know this shit because of my recent phonecall with them and all the bullshit I went through TRYING TO STREAM SOME FUCKING MOVIES GOD FUCKING DAMNIT.

What countries don't have this right now?

Pollackland, for one.

Why not go with a different provider user?

czech republic

...

lol who? monopolies don't apply to small areas, just country-wide.

Hungary

Data caps are complete bullshit. There's not a finite amount of internet that has to be preserved, but there's a bandwidth limit that's determined by the shitty infrastructure that these companies are using. The cheaper solution to saturation is to impose arbitrary limits on how much data one can consume in a given time period. What they were supposed to do was take some money from the feds and upgrade their hardware, but they took the federal funding and shoved it up their asses. As a result, people are forced to put up with third-world internet with a maximum usage indicator that says "we're too jewish to treat our customers with respect" to anyone who knows a thing about anything.

And no, data caps don't make any sense for mobile networks either.

I'm in the USA and my ISP doesn't have data caps.

what fucking ISP?

Time Warner Cable.

DSP

TWC is the worst shit in the world were i live california
fuck

...

Why do people still live there? Isn't everything expensive as fuck there?

It doesn't. I've dealt with some shit ISP's but I've never been too cucked to pay for datacaps.

I'm surprised they're not fucking us over harder.

If everything's expensive, that includes leaving.

Because we dont actually have a choice between who's brutal dildo we have to take.

Holy shit the prices at Time Warner Cable. 65$ for 50Mbit/s and only 5Mbit/s upload.

...

everything incluiding leaving is expensive. we're working on getting the fuck out, but there's also the problem of figuring out were to go.

...

This.

When everything is so expensive it's difficult to save just to leave. I know a lot of people that are in that boat right now.

Then the question is, where the fuck do you even go anyway? Every where is shit, at least the shit you're currently in you're already use to. You don't really get a second chance at this so the barrier to exit is pretty fucking high.

I don't even have it though, i'm stuck with suddenlink because none of the good ISP's wanna service my area. Faggots forced a data cap on us in january without mentioning. We went over once at that point, then another last month. We're fucked.

So they just forced a data cap on you all of a sudden. Is that legal?
It seems to me they're going in the wrong direction.

Hell, where I live I had a "Fair-use" limit that said 600GB a month, just so you're not fucking over the other customers, but I don't think it's ever been enforced. A few years ago they removed the limit though.

Does it even matter?

Time to make a new net. Over the air. The land lines are clogged.

not like they have competition or a reason to go back on their decision. if we left them we have no other option.

Good point, it's the US after all.

Or ISPs could stop being jews and start laying fiber-optic lines across the country. Even better if they started maximizing their potential.

An OTA network would probably either be based on the current mobile phone network – bad – or a completely new standard dedicated to internet – expensive and thus unlikely.

I'm talking about a completely civilian deployed and built OTA network. Lots of local nodes that may one day get linked together.

But yeah, its like the fiber optics are only going to get laid down by google.
For all the shit talked about google, they really do light a fire under the asses of some of these other companies lately.

I could get behind a completely civilian OTA network. Hell, that sounds like the sort of thing I'd like to work on.

Well if Satan wants it then that's good enough for me

SATAN TRIPS CONFIRM

Why would they do that

Bricks/bullets in their windows? An overwhelming demand for fiber-optic service? the "consumer union" bullshit actually coming to fruition? I only wish these things would actually happen.

...

Great.
I'm thinking of carrier nodes easily replicated though off the shelf parts and easily followed instructions. And likewise just as simple to deploy.

...

Feels good.

90% of the first world countries.

Now listen, I live in Miami so i'm thinking perhaps in our design specs we should consider water.

This thing gave me a bit of inspiration though.
cdn.sparkfun.com/datasheets/Wireless/General/RockBLOCK-Data-Sheet.pdf

We could saturate the the lakes, rivers, and oceans with this network if we really wanted to.
Would it be the greatest and the best?
no.
but it would be ours.

...

How generous of them to give you something that should exist. My datacap is stuck at 350 in oklahoma. They just put this made up thing in place about 4 years ago and I still don't get proper internet speeds.

No no
The New World Internet will not run through USA. You guys did enough damage as it is.

You really think an idea to make a singularly wholly privately yet massively distributed network actually has anything to do with borders or countries?

Grow up.
Or at least get out of the way.

What is this? Sounds like something right out of a dystopian nightmare where one single company has a stranglehold on the network.

Throw your emotions aside, you know it to be the best course of action.

America is fucking trash.

Data caps are a bullshit solution to a problem we shouldn't have. They're an incredibly kikelike mechanism that serves only to prey upon a technologically illiterate populace.

I'm buying land in Costa Rica and making plans to saturate the oceans with internet buoys.

What are you doing?

Jerking off.

Who's going to make Ernie Ball strings if everybody leaves?

dont you want D'Addarios instead sir? The production of Ernie Ball Strings ended 5 months ago

I'm in Russia and I'm paying $10 for 50 Mb/s, no cap and cable TV. We haven't had caps since 00's, I think.

WOOOOOOOOOOOW

Norway reporting, we got the same, only at 50$ approx

Never had caps as far as I know

I was looking at elixirs but they cost like twice as much as the other brands and I'm like "eeeeh, no thanks"
I mean, would you spend 60 buckaronies on four bass strings?

Malaysia, this month alone i dled almost 2 tb of porn.

God bless america

Well help me fuck that datacap.

I'm streamign the 8th' Friday the 13th movie. Where Jsaon goes to the big city.

I've been marathoning this fucking series since like 8:30pm on the 13th. I want to die.

Prices have been dropping severely and speeds/caps have been going up in areas where Google Fibre has been rolled out. It's only a matter of time for us Americucks getting fucked by the ISP conglomerates.

(checked)
well wait isnt that a good thing? if google fibre is put in say, LA, ISP's start enforcing caps n shit and start charging more, isnt that good for fibre since their plans are supposed to be cheap enough? more people are gonna wanna go with fibre if every other ISP is fucking them in the butt

I think it's 25 mbs down and 5 up
Serbia.

There was only ever one time I ran into a data cap and that was years ago. At the time I was trying to download all the files from a hosting site to recover all the files lost on my computer due to a terrible crash. I think it was at 200-250GB at the time. Got a call from ISP because I didn't know of any datacap.

I have my own self datacap because I always hit the recommended space available for a working computer. Then I've got to transfer that data to a drive or cd to make more room on the computer and it just becomes an endless cycle. I think I've played only a small fraction of what I download and only save the rest in case they should happen to disappear from the internet or not to go through the hassle of a russian website.

Its like you live in the years 1998 through 2006

Even in poortugal we don't have data caps

Germany, the router's reporting a volume of ~800GB for the last month; that's both up- and downstream.
Our record (without actually trying to "clog" the lines) is 1,2TB.

Whatever floats your boat, Super Satan

Most countries here in the United Islamic Nations of Eurabia.

Argentina, our country is a shithole filled with nwhite people, even us don't have datacaps

lol, even Romania has a better and less jewish internet.
Muh capitalism

To be fair, it's mostly because Murricans are always an early adopters. They have shitty old infrastructure lying around, so they are forced to use it. That's also why their election system is so retarded - it was the only feasible way to hold country-wide elections in XIX century.

...

More like their ISP sphere is in a state of subsidized monopoly. Comcast reigns supreme, you'll never have shit like here where you can just flip off any of the main 4 and switch to minor local ISP or even start your own.

even their constitution was a beta for the polish one

Well, that's why they don't change it.

Funny, it says nothing about not being able into space, surrendering to everyone or cleaning toilets. It seems you guys added a lot in the final version.

Tacolandia doesnt have cap limits, the speed is shit depending on the ISP.

in the whole EU its illegal to have data limits

Gotcha! Nanny state strikes again! Corporations should be free to impose any limits they want! Why do you hate free market so much? Are you a commie?

you seem to be angry
do you want to talk about it?

Aren't you guys supposed to be first world or something?

Where was the early adoption when instant run-off voting was invented in Murrica?

I've never had a data cap on Comcast because I'm a business customer.

brush up your history and dont talk bullshit next time

only if you are a company.

Yeah, right, I forgot that your government didn't surrender in WW2 because they all fled the country as soon as Germans and Russians stepped on your soil

...

If companies are people too I'm sure they wouldn't mind being held accountable like people.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

...

It's like being in a nightmare that you can never wake up from

The entire World?

My point is that all ISPs are improving whenever Google Fibre rolls out into their area. They either have their plans get cheaper or suddenly get better speeds/caps for the same price.
Although I have no patience to wait because I live in buttfuck nowhere Wisconsin so first chance I get I'm moving to a Google Fibre area.

I think it's sarcasm, though it would have a point if the US didn't have a federally mandated monopoly.

...

Google fiber rollout is having a shit ton of problems fighting against cable monopoly lobbyists.

Datacaps are rarely ever enforced except on metered plans.

t. former Comcast tech support

Whatever you say current comcast shill.

Was Armia Ludowa that big?

You fags live in alaska or something?

According to kikepedia, there were a number of Polish resistance groups active at the time. Armia Ludowa was the largest, though, numbering in the hundreds of thousands. Most estimates put them around 400,000.

No, they live in UNITED STATES OF A FUCKING MURRICA

They get gassed otherwise.

You get gassed either way.

user I'm not even talking about only Comcast. AT&T, Time Warner, etc. Going after data caps overages is like going after everybody who pirates. You can't send that many letters to that many customers or shut down or throttle their Internet.

I've been to almost every state, and the only two that I've ever seen have data caps were in bumfuck nowhere of alaska/commiefornia

Hell, I've even been to mexico and they don't have data caps.

They'd have to have internet first.

Don't worry, I'm sure our federally commission-imposed pro-consumer legislation will scrapped in favour of American legislation once TTIP goes through.

user, they do

It's only a notch above DSL, though.

Oh god.

go to their HQ and an hero with a bomb or something

Austfag reporting, 100mb, no shaping or caps.

Okay, I just got set up with Comcast because it's the only provider in this area, I got 160 mbps internet speeds, but only 10 upload and download.
What the fuck is an mbps

Joke's on you, Comcast/Warner/etc. already lobbied to make that illegal.

Never support Google in any form.

Mexico
Pro: Mexico doesn't have a datacap in most ISPs

Con: Would probably struggle to reach 400 - 500gb/month using the shitty speeds available in most of the country
Insane as fuck prices for broadband outside major cities
Tor is banned from major ISP Telmex as the political class declared a war on memes.

...

I want to stop being peddled bullshit by big corporate

I use Embarq, and I don't have data caps either.
I am stuck at 3.0mbps, and a shitty network that suffers from exhaust and outrages occasionally, but at least there's no bandwidth cap.

My mobile phone doesn't have hard data caps either, though it bump you down from 4g to 3g after like 200gb/month. So again, it's just slower, but they don't cut you off or charge you anything.

Mega bits per second.
Essentially how many millions (well, a bit off due to binary) of 1 or 0's can be sent within a second.

The more you think about it, computers and the Internet is so fascinating and yet so alien at the same time.

1 Megabit = 1 eighth of a MegaByte. When you're running your speedtest is it configured to measure in Mb or MB?

Uruguay doesn't.

Wouldn't the government just find a way to shut it down? You know, use FCC regs to basically outlaw certain network setups and hardware, forcing you to buy tightly controlled hardware provided by established network providers.

Kind of like how they're trying to shut down vaping through FDA regs so absurd that even 18650 batteries are now considered a "tobacco" product and require 800k to 1.2 million in testing per product line for the potential to even be considered for approval.

All they'd have to do is make up some lame excuse like looking out for national security by only allowing "approved" policeable networks, and shutting down private networks with a range greater than "x" meters diameter. Then they'd spin some bullshit media campaign about how the only reason why anybody would want to use a network that wasn't provided by one of the big providers is if they had something to hide… piracy, identity theft, child porn, etc. That'd get all the normalfags on their side.

...

...

I live in an area without Comcast outskirts of a college town in Iowa. My current data plan is 1TB data, but absolute trash-tier internet. I get around 500kb/s to 4 mb/s down depending on time of day and luck.

Absolute bullshit, for reasons established in this thread. Pretty much everything related to ISPs in America is fucking ridiculous, and the only consolation I have is that I'm not Australian.

My area actually has two competing ISPs, Mediacom and CenturyLink, but they're both shit. Competition doesn't inherently mean that there's improvement in quality and drops in prices, especially when both of them are making shittons of money off of their current system.

Forgot pic of prices. Also, I hate, hate, HATE how all ISPs advertise their speeds in megabits. Who the fuck uses those, other than ISPs?

telecommunications is the biggest racket in history

Why can't anything ever change for the better?

I don't have to worry about data caps because I'm using my neighbors internet

>pay 30$ for a 5mbps connection with a 10GB daily cap

I can't upgrade for shit because their new "upgraded" plan is 30$ for a 5mbps connection with a 50GB monthly cap

I have Comcast and have gone over the 300GB data cap multiple times. There is no penalty for doing so. They don't charge you any extra. Probably because the charge too much to begin with. I really wish they had competition in my area.

That's not so bad I guess, better than monthly

Shit nigger, mines unlimited. How is something from Canada better than America? This is new.

fuck was so close.

Used to be on an unlimited dsl connection. But everything now is either fiber or cellular, with everything but the most expensive plan or business plan having caps.

According to Time Warner Weyland Yutani, my household uses 4TB+ per month. Two heavy users of Netflix, one XBONE user, and one Merchantube user. No caps yet, but they're going to. I work for a telecom. Those faggots literally take turns being the first to roll out some bullshit policy or arbitrary fee, then the others race along behind them to do the same "because other carriers have this policy". AT&T put an "administrative fee" on every cellular line just to see if they could, and there it's been ever since. It's not a state, federal, or local charge or tax. It's 100% bullshit happy merchant fuckery.
