Like puppies rough housing with older dogs to expose them to aggression, so do we humans mimic the personalities which we see in other people to equip ourselves with social adeptness so we can properly engage and mingle with other human beings. Use this psychological mechanic in a different manner, however, and it becomes a tool of manipulation.
