This works on some, but not because the left is convincing them directly through their attacks. Rather, they've been indoctrinated so long they see the right as a boogeyman and reflexively recoil at the idea of being associated with the right to much. But that reflex for many is being overpowered by their disdain and/or fear of the violent tactics the left is resorting to. They see how they are being targeted for not being "loyal" enough already, and being forced to convert 100% to their side. Which many are realizing is not just going to go away if the left wins, its only going to get worse, and their position in the middle will never be safe or secure again, ANY sign they are less than 100% committed to w/e goals the left has at the current moment, will be seen as traitorous and they'll be purged, because the left always has to have some kind of enemy or scapegoat to point to or attack. And eventually, that will be those in the middle, because the middle will eventually become "the right" when/if the current right is ever gone.

That is why there still exists a moderate middle and more "chill" people in the middle. But thats a problem for the left, and so they'll keep pushing to polarize that middle. The sheep will go to the left, those who start to see under the mask will run right into our arms. And eventually, the second civil war will begin.
