How to eliminate unemployment: just work less.

I think that is true fact that could be used as a motto to promote the abolition of markets and private industry.

...

just imagine:

I have a better idea. Let's just all kill ourselves. Once the working class is eliminated, capitalism will fall apart under its own weight and we'll have achieved our goals. But first we must go after the reactionaries who won't go willingly with the plan.

I remember seeing IWW propaganda about the 4 hour workday

it sounds glorious. Maybe now is the time to resurface that idea.
I think a new union is necessary though. The IWW has been completely devestated by identity politics.

This actually came up in one of my classes, once. If wages didn't suddenly stagnate in comparison to productivity during the neoliberal era, we could've been enjoying this right now.

damn that would be so nice.
Time travel when?

This plan sounds familiar….

more like

lel more like 4 hour work week, with the technology we have now

imagine it you guys

...

Guys we should create a viral meme that encourages reducing the workday from 8 hours to six. This would add an extra shift to a work day, upping it from 3 to 4 shifts per day. Unemployment would decrease 25%.
Everyone will enjoy working less and having an easier time finding work.

makes sense to me

In an economy as large as the US's 2.77% is pretty substantial

he did nothing wrong

Scientific studies have proven that people's productivity maxes out after 6 hours. The last 2 hours of an 8 hour shift the mind has basically checked out.

Even Amazon, the porkiest of porky workplaces is starting a pilot program experimenting with 6 hour work days.

I think the work day should only be 4 hours. All your productive time shouldn't go to your boss.

Awesome, some actual evidence supporting a 6 hour work day. We can really easily push a 6 day work day. Hell, what if we make a petition to the whitehouse asking congress to discuss measures that would promote creating a 6 hour work day to add an extra shift to the day and thus end this recession by creating more employment.

Personally, I'd favor a three-day workweek over a four-hour workday. That's because it would also eliminate an additional two-day's worth of commuting time (which for some people is sometimes hour-long).

This sounds a lot better to be honest

Pic related is me, I was at the Coop Party Conference last week and I was the only the only one to mention reducing working hours.

I brought it up as several of the senior party members and Labour MPs there were putting too much emphasis on zero
hour contracts (where employers in the UK could hire you but not guarantee you any work from week to week, they call you in as they need you) so I literally said "can we stop this obsession with zero hour contracts? We're supposed to use technology to liberate ourselves from work, we should be capping the working week hours and this will in turn reduce unemployment as we share the burden of work."

I also managed to plug Oscar Wilde's The Soul of Man Under Socialism as well.

Based 💯

Without wage cuts? This is important.

I glossed over that point, I guess it seemed obvious to me that one would be increasing the hourly rate of pay (otherwise what would be the point if your overall earnings decrease?) but I can see how this would be counter-intuitive for some.

Oh well I hope some of them bothered to read Wilde's essay at least.

Good idea, although I'm certain my boss will replace my expendable ass with any ot he masses of unemployed, desperate for work people
the moment he thinks hes getting less than he could out of me.

I'll tell you what, you first.

Providing job creators with increased flexibility in their contracting.

All those tedious regulations on the worker-employer relationship are hindering job-creators ability to provide adequate employment.Especially all those nasty guarantees that you will be paid a survivable wage, or provided with work/compensation if the employer ditches you for slightly more profit.
