What's Holla Forumss opinion on piracy? Is it different if its an independent film?

When it comes to a indie film or music of an artist just starting that people should financially support their efforts even more than normal stuff but I dont think people should be arrested over not paying.

Whats funny is that isnt what pirates actually did. Usually the ships they invaded went without attack and they willingly handed ttheir loot over to them since it wasnt their proprety it was just being shipped over.

There is literally nothing wrong with piracy. With the prevalence of product placement in movies and shit now, they should count piracy when working out the payment they get.

In my old home in Petersburg there used to be a whole library of diskettes and cassettes and CDs with old music and games but they got mostly borrowed by my friends and never returned but that's ok because I have all of the media on my PC already and I'm glad that this junk brings joy to at least somebody and isn't being covered with dust right now.

The decline in torrent sites is very worrying.
Also the attitude of kids renting porky media even more so.

Independent film? I mostly pirate for rich tourists and commercial crews.The boss says paying us costs the company less than they lose by having the crew not working while they ask for help so we rarely have problems.

Not every pirate was a privateer, and I think you could make the case that they have worked against capitalist oppression at various points in history. For one, pirate crews were often incredibly egalitarian, not only in terms of how they were organized (captains still had authority, but they lead at the behest of their crews and an unpopular man wouldn't last very long), but also in that they were remarkably tolerant in how they often gave Black members (often freed slaves) just as many rights as white crew members and allowed them to rise to prominent positions regardless of race.

Likewise, modern pirate gangs like in Somalia were formed as a direct reaction to illegal overfishing and waste dumping by foreign corporations in Somalian waters, and the gangs were formed primarily to keep these vessels out and protect the fish stock on which local fishers rely for their livelihoods. Though the profits from hijackings obviously aren't spread in an egalitarian basis (they're mostly carried out for the benefit of well-to-do shareholders who stay on shore while the actual pirates go a-plunderin', some from as far afield as the Arabian Peninsula), they do support the local economies by reclaiming wealth from both foreign corporations that took advantage of Somalia's weakness and poverty for their own benefit and anyone else that happens to be sailing by.

Go to the Pirate Bay and take a quick peek at their top downloads. I guarantee you that you will find capeshit, indieshit, and crumby video games. The only books that get downloaded are shitty self help guides and comics. Library Genesis has some more intellectual material, but even then it is buried in a sea of crap. People aren't using piracy to enlighten themselves, merely to hide from the world in the warm bosom of their waifu.
