Also I just remembered Ape Escape. That's cutesy but it has some nice challenging gameplay too. Also the soundtrack is amazing.

It's not really all that cutesy, but Spyro the Dragon for PS1 has always been a favorite of mine.
Plus it's got an amazing soundtrack. The colors are also very nice.

Katamari games are really good for this, I'd also recommend Okami.
Recommending the hell out of this. You cannot feel unhappy while playing this game, unless your doing the final stage on hard.

I actually wanted some games like this, too. Lucky I found this thread. I don't know of many games that are comforting the whole way through.
I'd say either LittleBigPlanet 1 or 2 if you like creative games, maybe? I have no idea if 3 is good. But I felt the first two were pretty comforting.

How the fuck do romance simulators make you feel better?

I can't touch romance anything unless it's way more comedy than romance, and the romance gets mainly ignored.
I don't want to be one of those "tfw no gf" idiots that focus on being lonely, so I ignore all things with romance in them, also I ignore couples that are out in the street, and also just girls in general.
What the fuck am I even doing? You don't give a fuck, although I guess this is sort of related to the main topic.
Games that will cheer you up? Maybe try games you used to love as a kid, or you could try something like Pokemon Red or Blue, or Animal Crossing for the GameCube, Harvest Moon, although that has romance in it sort of, or Kingdom Hearts 1 and Chain of Memories, since the romance parts aren't a majority of the game, or maybe Digimon?
