The first game is a pretty decent length, with four towns, five dungeons if you count the linear last one, and a whole lot of overworld in between, with many optional upgrades scattered throughout.

Sure, although, Shantae for GBC is impressive for a GBC game, it didn't aged well.
I think Risky's Revenge is better gameplay wise but is shorter. Much shorter and with less content.

Before you jump to conclusions, I don't blame the designers for preferring to do the designing themselves, I wouldn't want the random public choosing my design options either, were I the designer in that situation. So I totally get wanting to minimize the damage potential of the voting process, if not avoid it entirely. But either give people a meaningful choice earlier in the design process or don't bother, this just seems like a cynical ploy to make backers feel involved without giving them any meaningful control at all. It's the in-game choice where you have to agree, the only option is what tone you use of audience participation.

Not from here, but AGDQ had someone do Risky's Revenge in 35 minutes. I tried the same technique(and being shit at the game in general) and did it in like an hour. Got the achievement though, so that's all that matters. I'm not speed running PC, but I am shocked at how quickly I reached 100% on my first playthrough. I'm almost to the final battle and I've only put 7.5 hours in or so.
