Nah. It's just a display bug. They cache each channel's subscriber count for real-time display and periodically refresh it from the real subscriber data because it's (much) faster to do it that way and precise/exact sub counts aren't critically important.

Yeah I think the display number is just a lagging representation of the actual count of users subscribed in the database. It doesn't make any sense how there would be a connection in the back-end code between an unsubscribe action from one user that unsubscribe's another user.

Pajeet probably wrote something that updates the display count based on the total number of subscribes/unsubscribes in a given period of time, instead of doing an actual count of the subscribed users in the database, in order to conserve computing/memory resources. So this "glitch" is not really a glitch, but it does show Youtube is and has always been full of shit, and subscriber counts are complete lies.

I run a very small youtube channel that has about 70 or so subscribers, but when I checked last night, it was showing that I only had 21 on my channel page, and then in the back end, it said I only had 40 or so. Now it's back at 70.
