Why don't they can this guy? He turns everything he touches into shit these days. I honestly think he's one of the biggest hinderances to Nintendo's success. He distills everything down into phone-tier gameplay.

Just give him a nice little salary bump and give him a figurative role.

Because if it wasn't for him, Nintendo would basically be no more. I agree he should be just a supervisor of sorts or an adviser, but they definitely won't fire the guy. I don't think they'd fire him if it turned out he liked to rape baby puppies while lighting them on fire and stabbing pregnant women in the gut.

Turn him into their wozniak. Let him do a walk through a few times a year and write him a cheque.

Oh man! That was siiiiick!

Sure Shiggy is a bit too protective over his properties, but I think that its Reggie thats the biggest problem
Kimi-whater I don't think has done anything at all and has let stuff throug the floodgates that Iwata would shut

If they spent no money, there is no reason to be upset.

...

Shit games are shit regardless of localization. Reggie doesn't make the terrible games. He just sells them.

So rad, fam.

Good job for contributing to the potencial customer meme.

Thanks!

No problem, enjoy.

Or sometimes makes them worse.

I honestly thing the turning point will be this new Zelda. As much as people like to pretend SFZ was what proves him shit, it won't be. If the new Zelda works out, he'll be there for years to come, working on games. If this backfires and ends up worse than SS, then I might expect for his position to be changed.

He's already been transferred to that role as a "Creative Fellow" and is on the road to retirement.

The problem is that Nintendo never nutured the talent they had during the Yamauchi era and they had no feedback compared to the past. The old Nintendo cycle used to be that they would create an alpha, get the green light from NCL, bring it to NOA. NOA would advise on changes for the global market with their production team. If NCL devs didn't like it, tough shit for them. They made games for global audiences full of variety and even Miyamoto was allowed to told "No, this wouldn't work" by NOA and Yamauchi would side with NOA if he believed they were on to something. So it would always work out that feedback was taken and flaws were worked on.

When Yamauchi was forced into retirement because of the price fixing scandals. NOA was collapsing because NCL pulled rank and wouldn't allow NOA the autonomy to sign and produce it's own games so it's producers and playtesters left. NCL did some of their best work when their back was against the wall on GC but the problem was no one was telling them what flaws the games had. Then when the Wii came in, NCL was just drunk off it's own power and started rehashing games for the "casual" audience and with no feedback or flaws being pointed out by people with a second eye on things. NCL just withered up and became a factory with little creativity left.

There are still talented people in there. Splatoon was an obvious example with a small project on a limited budget never mind showing the game at E3 when it was only a vertical slice demo. But it feels like all the teams are going through the motions and it's lead to this stale, monotonous factory that produces duds like Starfox Zero and Sticker Star or safe pandering bets that are competent like Fire Emblem fates compared to the risk taking dream factory Nintendo once was.

Like what? I hated the GC.

find it ironic even Miyamoto made a better NEW 3D Metroid than Tanabe tried to shit out for 7-10 years

hell Tanabe wasn't even responsible for more of the shit done in the Metroid Prime series other than mostly Retro, NST, Miyamoto, and the Prime 3 R.S. devs that left long ago.

Miyamoto never made any metroids. He was just a producer.

Miyamoto's only role in the Prime series was crippling them from the beginning by forcing Retro to turn an action platformer into a first-person shooter for some senile reason.

...

uh, isn't metroid prime considered a really good FPS?

it also had a trilogy, I don't think a GCN action plat metroid woulda done all that hot

I'm sure it is.
It's shit though.

It's decent, the parallels with Metroid are easy to see with early FPS games – searching for keys, secret ammo bonuses, etc. I think that's why it ended up playable and not shit. Combat is basically lock on circle strafe and nothing else though.

Why in the hell would someone want a Metroid to be made as a Metroidvania instead of an actual Metroid game?

...

They said the same for Iwata, now that hes gone the investors have control of the company.

Be careful what you wish for.

shiggity do wop

You have to go back.

pol plz leave

Casuals have a love hate relationship with him. While normalfags love him because he's basically walt disney in their eyes, but the more video game savvy ones hate him because they think he's senile when in fact he's making the best games of the generation. Pikmin 3 especially was fucking godly.

Really you can only name one game he's fucked, and even then it wasn't entirely his fault. It was a bad idea sure, but a good developer can do a lot with a bad idea.

...

Go to sleep, Polygon.

I take two things from people who shit on it.

You either never played it or you're just really fucking shit at adapting to new controls schemes after spending years stagnating on generic as fuck controllers and homogenized controls schemes.

I suggest you go play CoD and never play anything else. Your opinion is basically useless either way.

...

Nice meme.

Going full Nintendrone I see.

I'd correct you and say the softening on development teams turned a lot of games to shit.

Much like the Sticker Star team threw a tantrum when he suggested working more on the gameplay and shitcanned everything.

Funniest post of the day. Thanks for the chuckle.

...

Miyamoto's producer role during that time was only really ever was giving advice on builds, advising Yamauchi on quality and then signing off on it's release because they knew it was like a directors stamp on it. Prime was mostly Retro and NOA flying solo with what was supposed to be some NCL supervisory input but it ended up with NCL trying to dictate and shove in new features and NOA and Retro getting so pissed that staff were leaving. There's a huge amount of uncredited people on Prime because they left Nintendo and Retro. Miyamoto didn't have the FPS idea though. That was Mark Pacini and Ken Lobb.

It's one of the reasons there really needs to be a juicy tell all book about Nintendo during that time because Prime was a real clusterfuck of a production because of pride, egos and fear that Nintendo Of America was about to go full Sega Of America. Never mind that Yamauchi was being forced to retire during that time because of the price fixing and anti-trust scandals so there was a huge power vacuum.

That flies in the face of everything I thought I knew. Got a source on that one?

even Retro thought 3rd-Person was a good idea, Miyamoto had the right to jump in and slap there shit to change it and keep the Morph Ball.

also, even Nintendo, since MP1, doesn't want to call MP an typical FPS other than just "First Person" or something akin to a FPA.

just look on their FF page for example

I know that but he's influencing the whole company now

Ok.

...

Pikmin 3 was pretty good, they should put him into a small team of newbies and let him create new games however he wants as a way to train them just as long as he stays away from every other game.

They should do this with a bunch of other veterans, Splatoon was great, their new/middle talent is being held back by the old guys who are just past their prime.

He'll be gone along with a lot of other people when the NX bombs, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I got the controls down pretty well and the game is still garbage.

But yeah, surely this is all due to reviewers not appreciating shigdy's sublime motion controls. I'm still mad I had to go get this refunded.

Like what games?

...

Whoa faggot, as a matter of fact I did play the original Turok, and all four other Turok games as well, and I also do know Retro's history. Here's the facts, please try to get them through your tiny fucking fanboy skull already:

Retro was founded by a Jeff Spangenberg and, I quote, "several" Iguana/Acclaim employees. I say founded because at some point Nintendo got tired of Spangenberg and presumably some other employees fucking around on their dime and decided to fire them and completely restructure the studio. All the other games the original composition of Retro was working on got canned, and what little work they had done on the game that would eventually become what Metroid Prime turned out to be was scrapped and started fresh as well. Having done my homework because I was tired of this mythological reverence assigned to Retro Studios as some holy legacy of Iguana Entertainment, I actually compared credits of all four original Turok games and Metroid Prime one time. The result? They share fucking nobody. So by the time Metroid Prime was finally worked on full-time, all those people from the original Turok series that were supposedly so responsible for Prime's majestic brilliance were gone.

To act like they had any involvement in making Prime an FPS and is to wallow in your own ignorance. I dunno what Spangenberg's involvement in the Turok games really was originally, but here's the kind of tripe he made after his time at Retro. Really inspirational developer right? It's time to stop already.

Kicking myself trying to find it but it was near decades back in NGC magazine in an interview with Retro where they outright said it was NOA and Retro who wanted to go FPS once the first N64 proto failed (And after Spangenberg and his friends were fired) as they were coming off GoldenEye being huge and convinced FPS could work on consoles and Miyamoto just seconded them. Around 1999 EGM's Quarterman section and N64 were both reporting it was going to be a FPS game as well so the decision was done really early in development when they were building the "real" version.

Once employees started leaving before the game shipped over the NOA/NCL spat over giving more autonomy to NOA (NOA wanted to sign things themselves. NCL got protective of their position. Yamauchi sided with NCL and NOA's production staff departed the company because "There was no chance to advance and build the branch up further"). After that, Then Nintendo PR started attributing it to Miyamoto as they didn't want bad PR over reports that employees leaving Nintendo (And the GC launched tepidly so reports that people internally were unhappy were going to cause even more panic with investors)

Nintendo going to Nintendo really. If those issues were scanned, I'd post them. But it was confirmed multiple times before the game shipped that the FPS choice was never Miyamoto but after, it was all Miyamoto because he was a genius (Nintendo PR being on point as always)

Didn't he die?

...

But we KNOW you guys want Sticker Star 2! Who needs those pesky RPG elements and companions

Fox McCloud did nothing wrong, OP.

Observing those digits

You mean like Splatoon?

...

...

You mean the game they literally had to tear out of his filthy hands before he could get what he wanted and turn it into yet another Mario game?

He didn't want it to be another mario game though.

Miyamoto isn't nitnendo's retarded suits that want everything to be Mario.

Guaranteed he's the reason SF0 has those shitty motion controls.

Yokoi was the Miyamoto of his day. Nintendo had him whacked over the virtualboy failure. 'Car accident' my ass.

Japanese companies almost never fire people.

To be fair to Miyamoto, Sticker Star being a piece of absolute shit was less his fault and more Tanabe's. Tanabe would take shit like 'People didn't like Super Paper Mario's story' to mean 'Get rid of the story entirely'

Are you fucking serious? Nintendo games are some of the most popular games. Miitomo, Splatoon, and Super Mario Maker have millions of players.

I just wanted to post this. Yahtzee writing a review of Diablo3 before figuring out how to reassign the skills in the mouse buttons.

Enjoy.

NOA alone will destroy their market in the west. Sage for kiketendo.

I wonder if he ever realized his mistake and how much of an idiot he sounded in that one.

Probably not. His first mistake was playing D3 to begin with, which I'm pretty sure he fucked off of as soon as the review was done.

He mentions in the credits that knew how to change the right mouse click button. However that is like admitting that you got tricked by the fake ending in KI:U, factoring that in your review, and making a reference to it later in credits.

Normalfags dont play nintendo games anymore because they're trash now, even or them

Normalfags have the shittiest taste and has lowered the bar way low. Bioshock: Infinite wasn't a stain in the good series. Bioshock has always been irredeemably shit.

This pretty much

Normalfags recognize him because "he's the guy who made Super Mario which is the first videogame ever made". Just another useless trivia fact.

>>>/facebook/

I hate whoever is doing this shit.

That's not how you spell Gunpei Yokoi.

They won't do it again after the Wii U.

Sticker Star did well because expectations for it were high and the 3DS has a big user base.

Nobody fucking owns a Wii U and expectations for this game are low because everybody knows what a piece of shit Sticker Star was and this looks to be more of the same

Expect Colour Splash to be the worst selling game in the series.

cuck plz leave

...

Weird, I just watched that video recently. Some good YTP nostalgia right there.

...

who does nintendo have thats better?

What a terrible misrepresentation of what actually happened.

The true cancer is the people still shitting on Fed Force.

he's best when he has his own projects and sticks to it.
he's worst when he steps on other's people's toes in admin rolls.
he shouldn't be in charge of departments he should be in charge of individual projects/some minor gameplay oversight on others *like splatoon* , but no real influence when it comes to games that aren't his. *like sticker star*

dude sticker star was tanabe

...

Lol.

My mom works for Nintendo.

Apparently he has revealing see tapes with higher ups.

*sex

Pikmin 3 was fucking garbage.

2 is still the best.

Mario titles NEVER drop in price, even years after the Wii was done the Galaxy games cost a lot.

Sticker Star was a huge failure.

so what, you like the fucking grind to finish pikmin 2 over the precisely crafted experience that is pikmin 3?

Bingo mode with friends is pretty fun at least.

Random caves were a fucking terrible idea. Pikmin 2 a shit.

See pics related

It sold 1.97 million copies, more than Paper Mario or Thousand Year Door.

he means an actual price drop. not that nintendo selects crap.

Nintendo Selects are an actual price drop. That's the whole point of them, the lower price point

You sure about that?
I may be wrong but I remember paying full price for some of them years ago, maybe I was duped.

Yes

Pikmin 2 was not a grind.

The caves where amazing and added a ton to he length of the game, Pikmin 3 also removed the little item glossary with explanations on everything you found.

I'm talking about a price drop, Sticker Star is not a select yet it dropped to 10 within months.

The randomness of the caves and the autosaving within them were disastrous for the replayability of Pikmin 2. They were a cheap novelty that only work one time through and kill any reason to play the game again for speed or pikmin harvested like Pikmin 1 or 3.

Well you did actually have to grind in pikmin 2 for that bullshit 100 purple required treasure

he does that in every fucking video

And you, yes you, are everything that's wrong with video games.

Go shit up another medium.

No, another guy died. Satoru Iwata, the former CEO.

It seems Miyamoto just gave a simple piece of advice, here being "you can just stick to the original Mario lore" or something like that, and Tanabe interpreted it in the worst possible way, and that gave us Sticker Star.

Am I following it right?

I can see this happening.

You were duped. Recent example, I bought OoT3D as a Nintendo Select because every nigger and pirate snagged up every copy to hack their 3DS for piracy. I payed $20.

Now I'm curious if the Nintendo Selects version can work with hacking.

I remember them saying ion the interview that Miyamotto was saying that the story was unnecessary to begin with. He also said to use only SMW enemies.

I guess it the end it doesn't matter. The franchise is dead. They don't care about the story, originality, the humor, the characters or the gameplay. They fucked literally every single aspect of the franchise.

It's a mix of rage inducing, sad and sickening.

Where you shopping, nigga?

Which interview?

Somebody did a very helpful infographic demonstrating how Tanabe took very simple advice, twisted it and made an incredibly shit game out of it.

I think he was referring to the Iwata asks interview. There is an image of it but I don't have it on me

Isn't that what he is? He announced before splatoon that he was just going to be a "creative director" and did everything he could not to say "I'm gonna sit in a chair and watch porn all day"

here you go

t. cuck

It's clear what we must do.

Kill Tanabe

LOL FUCK OFF MELEE WAS SHIT

Starfox was always mobile game tier garbage, zero wasn't the first bad one.
