Epicurus

Does anyone else feel that his tetrapharmakos only serves to keep people docile and sheepish?

Clearly define the person you wish to be and then be that person.. could be very subversive.

Not in this day and age when the individual is put upon an altar.
Maybe in other cultures, yes.

You fag, read his work it is very few in pages
my r8ing
Epicurus = Plato > socrates > others > shit > Aristotle

Plato is literal trash and I can't understand why any socialist would rate that nigga

How would any of those points make people act docile and sheepish?

Only superficially. The individual is still demanded to serve the higher cause. Much like how political discourse is encouraged but only within the lens of capitalism, you are told things like be yourself, follow your dreams, etc but specifically in the context that benefits the capitalist system. The rhetoric is dropped once you no longer are being "useful" to that greater cause.

Say that to my face and not online and see what happens.

I will give you the benefits of the doubt
Explain your position on Plato .

just take it EASY man *lives a hedonistic yet modest lifestyle*

I think the epicurean pursue of pleasure fits perfectly with egoism

Why is she so flat, holy shit

...

I don't have bait big enough.

Eh, that's debatable.
If we're talking about Stirner's Egoism, it has more to do with the concept of "owness" than pleasure, although I'm not sure they're mutually exclusive.

When you have achieved owness, it would be natural for one to seek pleasure, and Epicurean teaches you how to get that pleasure.

Yeah, but that's also kind of my point.
Mass personalization and the individualization of all conditions already serves the higher cause.
What is not "useful" is already subsumed in the spectacle and used as a type of talking point for why the system must be maintained.
The individual acting outside of capitalism is just assumed to be a deviant now. It no longer exists to people firmly entrenched in capitalist society.

That's not what I was saying.

In that context, it makes sense.

Well, Epicurus is pretty okay, but his assumption that pleasure is the only important thing is his problem.

Literally how nigga. HOW.

Plato is the proto-fascist

Explain?

Rebel, what do you think of Keiji Nishitani?

STOP BASHING GREEK PHILOSOPHERS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Greeks reek. They were the top minds of the most regressive society we've ever seen. Which consequently meant you could be a pants on head retard and be held up on a pedestal. Like Cynics for example.
I took 4 years of classical studies.

I'm sorry, I've never read him, but I do want to read something about existential zen stuff

bumping philosophy thread

Epicurus was critical of the false needs people trying to make money impose on others through advertising. I dont think he was trying to make people sheepish
