I think because it wasn't as infused into the culture as it is now. Unless you go off the grid, it's virtually unavoidable now. The 90's weren't that long ago but the way we connect to the world has vastly changed; the internet/computers and smartphones have drastically changed how we interact not just with each other but with how we receive information. Even back in the 90's if you lived outside of a city you could avoid most stuff. Now every kid in little towns has access to the internet on their iPhone. It's not just the internet, of course. It's in schools, it's EVERYWHERE on TV, etc. We all know that the big Hollywood award shows are little more than three hour talk therapy sessions for asspained champagne socialists, as are the late night shows (Colbert, Noah, Oliver, Bee, etc.) and the people who worship them; you can't even watch a football game (which is like going to church for a ton of people in the US) without politics getting infused.

And then of course there's the media. Regardless of where you may stand politically, you have to acknowledge now just how filthy they are. I'm not saying that they just started having agenda or something, but I'm saying that it's so blatantly obvious that you'd have to be in a coma not to realize it. And a big part of it is just a blatant anti-white and anti-male narrative - it's not an American thing solely; it applies virtually everywhere in the west. Things like Ferguson get people protesting even in Europe because all of the media outlets paint this "gentle giant" picture while stories like Daniel Shaver get virtually zero coverage. "Who is Daniel Shaver?" Exactly my point. The shooting in Nashville a few days ago? Virtually nothing. Remember that cop from a few months ago who killed the Aussie woman who lived in Minnesota after she called to report a disturbance? You probably don't because there are no riots, no calls to get on a knee, etc. Now meanwhile Muslims spontaneously combust every month or so in Europe but the media reminds you that you must be tolerant - but then a guy in Virginia runs over a woman and it dominates the headlines everywhere for weeks (about a week later a Muslim kills 13 in Spain and it's barely a story though.)

Well there's a lot of specifics to go into so trying to speak generally about brain development and nonverball communication is very intricate. We have had to evolve along with what our environment is and our changing environment yes but that isn't a lot of time where we have been "advanced" compared to when we haven't been.
