They represented the worst of the left tbh. A whole lot of "some people have more other people have less" and very little explanation as to why that's a problem.

It seemed to me as an outsider that the majority of them were liberals who had a very limited understanding of capitalism. As a result they lacked direction.

I don't think it was the end of the American left so much as its rebirth. B████ is the clearest evidence of that I think. People are frustrated with the system, but many of them, due to being ill-informed don't know how to articulate their frustrations or arrive at solutions.

I know at my /uni/ for example, the econ teacher was having us read some book in defense of capitalism because she was concerned with the rising popularity of socialism among young people.

Taken over by stank ass hippies.

No it can't happen again, because all are now under surveillance. If 3 or more meet in the same place, they'll all accidentally choke to death on hamburgers.

...

It was part of the begining of the end.

People tried to resist, but had not classcon and bourgie hippie sjws were born. Then the politicaly active population got devided on false premises, Hilary got elected, Neoliberalism took over and now am sending this message from 2060.

I must go! The InterSec is coming!

The window! THE WINDOW!

The American left isn't broken, it is being recast anew.

Americans are (slowly) developing class consciousness. I fully expect either reform or revolution within my lifetime.

I wish someone would throw a bomb in their midst. Americans are the most entitled selfish people on the planet. None of them are genuine leftists, they are just angry they can't afford the excesses their parents and culture promise them. That's why it went nowhere because when it comes right down to it, the people occupying wall street were no different than the people working on wall street. All they want is wealth.

Winrar

amerifag reporting in, i just don't want to wash dishes for the rest of my life, i'm bad at it and it's boring. it seems that the opportunities aren't really there for lower class americans, especially if you also have a disability.

Because it was a stupid idea to begin with. You can't get porkies to concede to demands with colorful language. Why should they do anything besides laugh at you and walk right on forward into their office to exploit more value out of workers? The proper place of protest is outside of government buildings. Better yet, striking by organized labor.

Why did it fail?

Watch this.

SJW and their cultural bullshit killed that movement.

I cannot hate them enough for that. I just don't have enough hate…

It served a useful purpose. It laid the excesses of capitalism and Wall Street's total domination of American politics bare. I doubt that Sandman could have gotten as much support as he did without the awareness and resentment against the ruling class that was kicked up by Occupy.

what if you're a str8 white man with cancer? this is just stupid.
also

This is exactly what am I talking about. If fighting for the cause would damage your own standard of living you will abandon it. If you ever luck out and land a better job you will lose your purpose.

You ask yourself what do you want a job better than washing dishes or a revolution. It's not that your desire to not work a menial job for shit pay is wrong or invalid, it's that it alone is not enough basis for leftist politics which is why you're doomed to fail.

OTOH the material conditions of the working class are the essence of all proletarian politics.

i have no standard of living. it's not about the money, rather i dislike the system of work assigned by caste instead of interest/aptitude/fit other commonsensical factors. i'd rather be a doctor who got paid minimum wage than a dishwasher making 50k so long as work conditions remained stable (having autonomy, not atwill employee).
this will literally never happen, see above.

Maybe among people who already cared about shit like income inequality, but the great majority reacted to it the same way they did when Eisenhower warned against the danger of the Military-Industrial Complex in his farewell address, namely by shrugging their collective shoulders and saying "so what".
The fact is most people didn't care then, and they really don't care now, especially since the whole thing was shot through with idpol bullshit, and the press deliberately cherry picking the most batshit crazy retards infesting the fringes of the movement in order to turn most normal people away from it.
It was also a total failure in that it did precisely fuck all towards mobilizing the working class, and made what passes for the left in this country look even more stupid and ineffectual than usual.

This isn't the 1960s, and protests in the street aren't going to change a damned thing.
You aren't going to see real change until enough people get fed up and get up off their asses and start fighting for it.
Waving signs and chanting slogans accomplishes nothing.

the brice of freedumb

Nice inverse nationalism fam

Gosh.. what if I'm a rich straight white man who just happened to work in Wall Street and is ready to spill the truth…

nope,, you have to wait while the Eskimo transgender talks about his/her fucking feelings, and then the overweight black lesbian gets to talk about her feelings

and maybe after three or four hours of feelings, you'll get to talk about actual Wall Street issues.

funny how the college "liberals" who derailed that movement into pointless bullshit were all the children of elites and from elite schools.

Christ those comments

I once got into an argument at a campus ISO meeting for calling a particular idea, "stupid", by some landwhale saying that I was being "ableist". I told her to fuck off, since I had been dealing with a developmental disorder my entire life, while she was just fat.

Just because you are retarded doesn't mean you are not ableist

Landwhales are lumpy proletariat

So you're saying calling an idea stupid is ableist?

Wow. What should I call it then? "Differently optimal"?

Depends.
Was the stupidity of her idea separate from her identity as a hamplanet?

It wasn't even her idea. She objected purely to the use of the fucking word.

I know that feel.. I went to socialist meeting and they talked about how we need to support the LGBLT community. What the fuck does that have to do with economics?

Look, supporting women, I get, because they're half the working class. Supporting Blacks, I get, because they're 1/4th of the American working class. But the LGBT are like, 1% of the population. How the hell are they going to make a meaningful contribution to the class struggle?

Fuck that shit. If you did something meaningful and real like raising the min. wage it would benefit people of color disportionately because they are disportionately working class,, but nooooo..

Let's just jerk off about hair and cultural appropriation while unions die, wages drop, and the rich get richer.

Because fashion is sooooo important!

i object to assholes abusing the term "ableist"
t. someone with a severe disability

How can we do forced anonymity in real life?

This is exactly why I prefer ib over normieNet

i have really shitty eyesight, can i use it?

No. Quite the opposite. It was the first rumblings of the American Left's slow reawakening.

The Left struggles in times of capitalist prosperity. That is not the conditions of our time.

The American Left had was barely hanging on since the end of the 70s and was, for all intents and purposes, dead by the late 90s, replaced almost entirely by a sort of third way liberalism. The brief radicalism of the mid-late 90s was the swan song of the American Left.

Occupy Wall Street was the first stuttering of the heartbeat of an American Left slowly rising from its grave.

...

I think - finally - the left is regrowing some balls, but it might be too late to take down the machinery of capitalism, and that most of the people alive today won't see appreciable change for the better.

The Final Boss isn't going to be capitalism but the peculiar brand of neofascism that it has incubated.

No

Because it was undermined almost immediately by cops and the FBI at the behest of Obama.

It will.

This is true especially among younger people. You have 1 in 3 people under 30 willing to openly support Socialism when just a generation before it would have been "better dead than red." To say nothing of the proliferation of worker co-ops across the country.

americans truly are cancer

This

I've never seen so many overpriced ifaggot gears and designer clothing in my life and this was supposed to be a far left movement.

Because to them "socialism" = "free university education like in Europe!", just like to their parents "socialism" = "grandma's going to the gulag for visiting an underground church"

This. People don't understand that the words themselves are irrelevant; it's their implied/assumed meaning(s) that matter; and those implied meanings don't align with the factual ones.

Part of american politics' being so fucked up is that the american political lexicon is so warped that it's nearly impossible to discuss matters clearly. The very language and words have been obfuscated and corrupted beyond belief. This is a major achievement of the propaganda/thought control system.

I get what you guys are saying, but honestly I feel this is still a good thing.

More people willing to call themselves socialist means more people to teach and guide down the actual path to socialism.

This.
If they're down for it because it means free education, why should the idea that they get to run their workplace cooperatively with other workers scare them off? If anything, that should be a bonus.

Knowing a word gets you nowhere if there's no theory or class consciousness to back it up. No one knows jack shit about either, and any attempt to build a broad socialist movement right now will degenerate into sectarianism and idpol.

At this point the only good things that could come out of the American Left would be organizing co-ops in basic industries, promoting cooperative local governance and aid in rural areas, and forming militias to fight the fascist death squads and roving gangs once the next massive economic crash wipes out the current neoliberal order.

I was able to convert a B████fag to glorious socialism pretty easily. "but they're not real leftists" is a retarded thing to say. The point is that young people are coming out in droves for "socialism" and we ought to be out with them, finding those that are sympathetic, and educating them on what socialism actually is

COINTELPRO 'progressive stacks' killed OWS.

Jodi Dean is fucking retarded

It was a strategy, and like all strategy it had is usefulness. The state found a way to disrupt that strategy, so now its ineffective.

They should have been violent.

This.

COINTELPRO was fantastic at making all the SJW issues more important, using the "give a voice to the voiceless" philosophy they pushed all these petty issues like meme gender/sexuality shit, intersectionality, and just general Occupy Democrats "Obama's trying so hard against those Blue Dogs/Republicans"

Really it started off as a good launching point for Marxism. But in the end the black trans womxn was able to convince everyone that they, despite being broke and evicted from their house were part of a higher class.

Also on intersectionality, is it weird that there is very little academic criticism of it and most of the criticisms are from Marxists?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intersectionality

That's hilarious… one of my professors actually took our entire class to our local occupy camp to talk with the protestors. Of course this wasn't Econ it was Political Science.

they questioned corporate-state-finance overlords, so they were destroyed by plants from the inside. it was made into a trendy fashion statement, the social justice crowd was brought in for that purpose. cops realized that spraying and kicking people was only garnering sympathy for their cause. character assassination is nice and legal and unprovable.
it's really alarming that nearly everyone I talk to about OWS (no matter their age or education) will not remember where/why Occupy started or how it grew, and they often repeat generic MSM phrases like "they were just lazy hipsters, if they have laptops and college diplomas they shouldnt complain" or "their protests harmed the economy so they are un-american". the event has already been fictionalized.

Maybe I'm misreading the page, but it sounds like marxist-feminists developed intersectionality, not criticized it. It says critical theory developed out of a particular understanding of Marxism.

The SJWs drove a stake through it's heart pretty quick.

youtube.com/watch?v=SCwhlZtHhWs

That movement failed so utterly it's scary. A fiscal crisis, lots media attention, lots of angry Americans,, and yet no criminal charges, no regulation reforms came out of it. The government even cleaned up their mess for them and gave them money.

SJWism confirmed for cointelpro?

I've suspected that as well.. That sort of self-destruction on the verge of progress is just too hard to ascribe to mere stupidity.

Your argument is very convincing.

Intersectionality was founded largely by Kimberle Crenshaw who is by far not a Marxist and it's largely a liberal individualist ideology

That video personified everything which went wrong with that particular movement it's not even funny. I think what's most depressing was the completely valid point concerning class marginalisation point made at 1:30 which is just utterly shut down.

I would take anything you read on Wikipedia that is even remotely related to social justice activists with a grain of salt. There is a massive cabal of editors on there (with outsized admin representation) whose only goal in life seems to be propping up feminism and misrepresenting criticism.

Yeah lets oppress people in the third world even more.

fuck off anarchiddie

Marx has an answer:

(18th Brumair of Louis Napoleon, Chapter 1.)
The question is: was occupy a bourgeois revolution or a socialist one?

i guess, please don't abuse out of appropriate context

yeah idpol is largely bullshit but i think a lot of people here underestimate how hard porky worked to sabotage them. naomi wolff was accosted while standing on a SIDEWALK of all things. a public sidewalk.

10/10 argument

my, I certainly am impressed and offended by your harder-core-than-thou opinions

Pretty much, yeah.

i do not think so

yes, i think

those stupid fucks, i cant even believe this shit.
