The show managed to piss me off early on by having Tygra try to kill Lion-O then brush over it like nothing happened.

And Cheetara's sudden "he was so nice to me so I luv him" backstory with Tygra was probably the most contrived bullshit I've ever seen in a TV show. It was even more infuriating that there were faggots in the fandom who actually tried to justify that bullshit with "b-b-but they looked at each other for 0.67 seconds in that one scene, so there was totally build-up there" meanwhile Cheetara practically giving Lion-O the fuck-me-eyes every five minutes is glossed over as "she was being friendly".

I never really understood how much of a cancer shippers were until that moment.

Man, the fact such a good art direction was absolutely wasted on the worst writers is just heart breaking.

I think they screwed up by changing the character dynamic of the Thundercats from the original. At least for the core group of Thundercats. The Masters of the Universe revival kept the dynamic from the old 80s cartoon and just polished everything else up and that was a good show for it.

Can I just say that I'm very happy that you've taken the time to show up and address the complaints and queries of anons lately? Because I am. Other boards are hypersensitive about having BOs and BVs actually communicate with their board, but you have been doing a great job over the past few days.

I want to ask the writers of this show how they expected ANYONE to like these characters.

They unintentionally wrote the Thundarans into a horrible race of traitorous, greedy, violent cowards who deserved to have their empire destroyed.

That's very very unlikely. More just that the writers hated Lion-O for no good reason. They were just plain incompetent.

I think this underlines an important problem with Thundercats. A story needs conflict for its narrative. This can come from outside the protagonist's group or from within it. Look at something like He-Man where almost all the conflict comes from outside. Skeletor wants an artifact, the Snakemen are trying to resurrect their God-King, Hordak seeks to remanifest on the material plane, whatever. One nice thing about that is that you don't need to have much conflict between protagonists. This works pretty well for an action show because it never really create situations which make you hate the characters; they're pretty much all bros working together to defeat an objective evil. At worst Ram-Man is a bit of a prick but is sorry by the end of the episode or Teela is a little tsun-tsun.

Thundercats tried to rely more on interpersonal conflict between the protagonists. This is tough in an action show because 1) it's easy to make people hate the characters with that stuff and 2) it's hard to take interpersonal drama seriously when the setting includes the conflict of A FUCKING ARCHLICH WHO WANTS TO DOMINATE AND/OR DESTROY ALL LIFE. It is possible to make the little stuff work against a broader background (see: Avatar the Last Airbender), but your writing for the personal interactions has to be on point otherwise it goes off the rails (see: Korra porn character design reference). At the end of the day Thundercats tried to have a more "mature" story but the writers just didn't have the chops.

The episode after this was even dumber.
Lion-O fucking drowns to death and the powers that be say that he can come back to life but only if he passes some stupid tests that are supposed to make him a better king. If he doesn't, he stays dead for good. The spirits giving him the tests take the forms of his friends and basically tell him he's a bad leader and unworthy of being king.

Meanwhile, Tygra decides he's the king now even though all of them are about to be enslaved by Mumm-ra. Lion-O doesn't pass the tests, but he's still brought back for some reason, and saves everyone.

The He-Man revival was better because they kept remembering they were writing a show about action figures fighting each other.

This is from first part of that episode set. Will Friedle, Lion-O's voice actor, actually wrote the second part. You know, the part that ISN'T shitting all over Lion-O.

I heard rumors that Friedle started rewriting his dialogue for the show, which I don't doubt considering how irritated Lion-O got as the series progressed. Friedle also wanted to introduce Bengali into the show as a foster father for Lion-O, only to be shot down on the basis that Tygra is the only tiger.

This is uniquely bad. What the hell? This isn't even the standard hackishness you find in modern cartoons, this is special brand of shit you don't find anywhere else.

This is why writing is everything.

Sometimes actors adlib/improv their dialogue, but straight up scripting it themselves is quite rare.

I watched the new He-Man cartoon when it aired, and while most episodes had external conflicts, it still had a few episodes with internal conflicts, which balanced things out. The one I remember is about Mekaneck, the one who could extend his neck(had to check the wiki to for his name).

He should have just wrote the whole thing. Hindsight 20/20 and shit I guess.

I think the issue is less the content of the pics, and more to do with the fact that presumably the same guy just posts the exact same images in every single Thundercats thread, and to my understanding is largely responsible for the last couple of Thundercats threads being unceremoniously killed.
