This is probably the biggest thing that drives me away from leftism

You do realize that religion is merely a tool of ruling class to brainwash the masses?

you can replace religion is anything and it fit,

conspiracies are spooks, why are you against freedom of religion

IIRC Anarchists in Spain were much more hardcore than Bolsheviks. To the detriment of their cause, as some said. Hard to blame them, though. Church was always a bloodthirsty monster.

Public display of religion should be illegal, imo. Worship in the privacy of your own home, or don't worship at all.

Afraid to exchange your delusional ideology with a realistic ideology?

Tough.

Anyway, sure… Be whatever religion you want. But if for example, the church is to be replaced with a hospital, it will be.

Way-hay, nice to see a christcom who isn't me around.

I agree OP. It's probably one of the main things. The second being sectarianism and the third being the amount of rhetoric and dogmatism on the left (I guess that's linked to the second).

Well it should drive you away. You are spooked beyond recovery.

Oh, and the Catholic Church was a major driving force for the left in the west. People on leftypol seem to be very ignorant about this.

Their economic teachings of a fair market and distributism were very popular. Unfortunately the tradition has not kept on. You may be tempted to call this socdem, but please put into perspective the time context. Catholic leftism is very popular, even today.

Most Christcoms I know at least oppose organized religions but you are a special kind of retard, OP.

So why did they ally with the fascists?

Alright, you can leave now.

...

I agree, we need more pro-christian leftist theory. Check this lecture, its brilliant.

...

A Christian complaining about dogma, almost screenshot-worthy.

The mistake is thinking religion form an homogenic block in the first place. People have different interpretation of it and can put some distance with some part of the dogma, while putting emphasis on other parts.
Religion as institution however, is cancer.

Are you calling me a christfag? Because I can assure that's not the case.

This is probably the biggest thing that drives me away from leftism.

But the Christ fags are right. Christianity has done a lot of good. Even if the Catholic Church needs to be dismantled there can be no doubt individual priests and members have done a lot of good.

Sorry not you, it was meant to comment the post your were replying to.

I don't disagree with that. But I still think the large religious institutions need to be dismantled.

There are always individuals whose innate humanity and empathy made them act contrary to the poisonous ideologies they were conditioned to believe in, so what?

Christianity is shit. The church is shit.

Shit, I think I threw up a little. You people are starting to literally disgust me. You talk like robots when it comes to this stuff. Circle jerking fun for you?

I seriously cannot emphasize how disgusting talking like that makes you look from a position of an idiot christfag like me.

The idea that you would actually be okay with destroying churches and peoples' community is disgusting. It's the sort of thing that makes me think you're all LARPers.

Except they didn't feel it was contrary to their ideology or religion, rather that egalitarianism was a natural part of Christianity. You can disagree, but that's your interpretation is not an objective truth. Who's to say it's not those of the church who defend capitalism that are corrupted by their own desires?

orthodox christian churches are beautiful, only a Jew or a Muslim would want to destroy your nations history and architecture.

Good. Most of us don't want you here.

maybe your god will save you :^)

Your entire shitty religion in a nutshell.

They didn't blow up the churches that had architectural value, like this ugly piece of shit.

I think the cancer's back after reading these posts

Look at what the church was like in spain at the time (and afterwards during francos era). It's hard not to see anarchists wanting to destroy that.

Dont bully the Christians, they are innocent and pure and should be kept so for a nice future wedding with one of our revolutionary's.

not an argument

Good.

You support an organization that has sided with fascists, yet you are the one who acts disgusted when you are called out on this? You sure that you aren't LARPing? Like I said, I've never met a Christcom who doesn't at least oppose organized religion.

Oh, now suddenly we moved from what's true to what is good for the people? Tough luck, religion is neither. Now community is destroyed by removing a hierarchical, medieval institution that preaches superstitious bullshit and morals from iron age nomad tribes.

state atheism or gtfo

Are you implying that there was a period when leftism wasn't anti-theist or at least anti-clerical and that some corrupting outside influence caused it to turn out that way? Are you a retard?

It made sense at the time cause the Orthodox church was heavily embedded with the Tsar and the ruling class.
They profited off of the proleteriat, and actively went against the revolution.

you really are robots huh? You've actually begun to just repeat yourself.

Is this like your modern version of calling someone an infidel or a witch?

Yeah. There are plenty of good boy Catholic/Christian leftists out there.

There are plenty of kind-hearted Nazis out there.

Reminder class struggle and enlightened self-interest are the true teachings of Jesus of Nazareth

this is false

...

Name 3

...

Sure, distributism and liberation theology and all that exists but how can you deny the oppresive role of the catholic church, and religion in general?

Bible-bashing homophobes, televangelists and other regressive christians can go up on the wall with the rest of them tbh.

Franco saw massive support from the Church in the civil war. This is fact.

We were just recalling historical facts and you haven't done jackshit to refute in any way. You are just ignoring it, covering your ears and moving straight to name-calling. Tell me, why should any communist side with an organization that has a history of siding with fascists during armed conflicts? What is your answer to this?

*sniff*

lol, heretics dindu nuffin

The Pope openly denounce communism, and the Eastern Orthodox church has a history of being against it too.
Both of them supported Fascists at one time or another.

Noone said we had to burn all of them… Just the ones that are facists.

Let me correct you. He denounced marxism for its materialism. I ain't no marxist, and I ain't no materialist.

I think you mean overwhelming majority.

Of course he did.

What about the Reichskonkordat, the papal concordats with Nazi Germany? Doesn't sound like a small fraction within the church, does it?

Btw, they are still in place to this day.

So, you heard right guys.

The Vatican still has contracts in place that legitimized fucking Nazi Germany and they even mention the Nazi party in the text.

JP2 also criticized capitalism on the same grounds, but he was more reserved.

That doesn't stop religion being a tool of the ruling class faggot.

How many do you think would support Franco today?

How can this be true if it's also the case that liberation theology was a thing that existed.

Rome was supplying Ukrainian nationalists with weapons during Russian Civil War on the condition of supporting Catholic church (and shutting down Orthodox) in Ukraine.

Materialism, my ass.

The city of Rome was supplying a country with weapons?

what does this have to do about the other discussion about the declaration against communism? don't talk shit.

You don't understand the concept of a metonym?

Probally a lot.

Don't be obtuse. Rome = Roman Church. Catholic Church

I.e. neither here nor there you have any arguments.

hi rebel obesity

Look, faggot. I was going to the church ever saturday evening (I was to lazy to wake up sunday morning) till I was 14. Then the village priest changed and I got despooked. Relegion is only a corporation and is to be treated as such.

Sure, you can have your faith. You can even have a church or whatever, as long as your community agrees. But don't expect professional priests under socialism. No more parasites.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE LET ME KEEP MY BOURG POWER STRUCTURES AND HIERARCHIES

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decree_against_Communism

"No."

bogove na glogove.

Why is Rebel such utter cancer?

i'm against backwards stone age ideologies that are inherently violent and sectarian in nature being allowed to corrupt society.

surely you understand that religion is an opiate that can poison and overdose even the most toleranced society

look at this hideous enormous monstrosity that had to be built with thousands of man hours of hard labor that brings absolutely no intrinsic value to society. absolutely disgusting they should have burned that shit down day 1 of their civil war

There's leftist support among lower clergy, almost entirely within Latin America. However the upper level clergy want none of that shit aside from paying some lip service to it so the poor stop leaving the Church. Rome has been anti-left and pro-right since Socialism started, the Liberation Theology shit just exists for people too spooked to leave the Church.

There are hundreds of beautiful churches, and thousands of beautiful mosques and temples. I don't think we should destroy them all, the nice ones should be kept for their beauty and historical value, maybe they should house museums to the horrors of religion.

Notre Dame and St. Patrick's should be kept around, but that cathedral in Barcelona is fucking hideous, it should've been blown up immediately.

Doesn't Orwell write in homage to catalonia that he wished the anarchists didn't spare this cathedral because it's ugly as fuck?

...

A building is on fire.
I don't see the problem here.

...

...

Yup

So get out.

Basically this.
Yeah, it was shitty, but the church has been consistently used as an instrument against communist, so it makes sense they have a chip on their shoulder.
Hell, in the U.S. you still have evangelicals who see stopping communism as a holy crusade.
Recently Christians, like Catholics, are a bit more open minded so there is progress.

KEK

Probably because of spooks

Also, I'm not against religion per se, but I am against people using it as a tool to brutalize other people.
If this were a radical Muslim masque, I can almost guarantee you wouldn't care.

I don't know what it is but it definitely drives me towards it

They were at the forefront of reactionary politics that actively hurt workers across the country and owned and astonishing amount of land
They imposed stupid faggotry like adultery laws and had people murdered for standing against them
If anyone deserved smashing in Spain it was those assholes

Did Rebel just got BTFO for his utter lack of historical knowledge?

Rebel was at least a little less retarded then this.

I was never mindcucked, having an agnostic father and a vaguely spiritual mother. Absolutely no church. I've been an atheist for 15 years now.

Churches should be demolished /re-purposed but it should be from disuse, not by the state. A top-down authoritarian approach is antithetical to the traditions of free inquiry and criticism that are not just behind irreligion but socialism. Religion, especially Christianity, has maintained its hegemony by marginalizing criticism: before the internet one had to go out of their way to find books and periodicals skeptical of religion, as well as capitalism, and those sources were drowned out by the thousands of proselytizing voices from missionaries, priests, and pundits. With the internet tons of quality criticism is available, and the result has been a wave of irreligiosity and socialistic leanings by millennials and the internet savvy.

Freedom of information, open criticism and discussion of ideas with no sacred cows, and cultural values of knowledge, inquisitiveness, and curiosity is the cure.

Very much this. Nice post, famrade.

we already discussed this

Most of you are saying I am ignorant of history, but you misrepresent
1. The decree against communism which is purely about marxism
2. The history of catholic economic thought
3. Me. Because I'm addressing the people who say "lol it's ok to burn churches all the time" not just the people in Spain.

Case in point, I have no problem with posters like this:

But most of you seem to be content being retarded edgelords.

Some find the escape from despair by the act of resistance itself against all that wich causes despair. And some suck god his dick to escape despair. :^)

why care about such base, earthly politics when you're getting your pie in the sky in the end anyway?
inversely, it's nothing to get worked up over since they're all burning in hell forever anyway
and we and everyone that disagrees with you will too when the cancer from our shitposts comes back around

0/10 poor bait

Who cares about them. They didn't believe in the RIGHT Jesus anyways.

So, you're anti-islam?

Sometimes I wonder about the mental gymnastics required to understand Marxism and still be caught up in the biggest spook of them all with religion.

I don't see how you can realistically reconcile the radical left with religion. Maybe in an abstract way if all you care about is a select few sayings of Jesus about the poor, (while ignoring the old testament and overall message that humans are essentially irredeemable pieces of shit that need his forgiveness but lets not get into that now) in practice there is just too much conflict between religion and the radical left. Sure the church does like to give lip service to vaguely leftist ideas, and some of the rank and file might sympathize with leftist causes, but as a whole it isn't our ally. At best it is a pain killer to the problems we seek to fix at the core, literally the opium of the masses. But most of the time it doesn't even do that, it constantly sides with conservative and reactionary elements. The clergy always side with the tyrants and try to take control of the education system of the nation. They are not our comrades. And why should they be? They have everything to lose if a successful revolution takes place, and not much to gain.

And this may just be me as an anrachokid but religion is also quite deeply authoritarian and hierarchical in nature. I'm not saying we need to gulag everyone who refuses to renounce their beliefs and have all clergy disappear some night, but you have to be in denial if you don't think there won't be any tension in a future revolution with the majority of religious organizations. At best we would have to keep an eye on them and live together in existence.
