Liberals Hate Thread

Why is it moderate, if liberals kill trillions billions?

Because at least as liberals they get to be detached while killing people.

...

the separation of reason and emotions leads to moderation, which is the same thing as stagnation
it's been a tendency among so called respectable philosophers since plato, who wanted to force children to always play the same games

But the Vulcans are socialist, while Romulus are fascists.

Chekamate comrades.

star trek is for nerds dude

Wheredoyouthinkweare.jpg

Why are you hating on the best socialist fiction in popular culture

Ritsu is so hot.

i don't know man, i haven't seen the real one but that latest movie was fucking terrible

The last real star trek was voyager.

But the best leftytrek series was ds9.

Enterprise had a few good eps, but relied too much on Jolene Blalock's headlights and 'hay this is how X pivotal event in the lore happened' in some usually-disappointing and shoehorn-y (wow the Enterprise made first contact with yet another iconic species of the series, including two that didn't canonically appear in the Alpha Quadrant for another 200 years, except the times they both time-traveled back to the 20th and 21st centuries to Roswell and Montana, fancy that) way compared to how Last Unicorn, FASA, SFB, Hell even some of the better vidya, comics and novels. I'm still mildly buttangry they cancelled it the season before we were supposed to see the Kzinti, in part so people would get the joke if I spammed pix of them when somebody bitched about muh patriarchy.

Honestly I'd prefer watching that to Voyager, some of Voyager got as bad in terms of 'here are some Xenos and explosions and maybe some sort of deadly puzzle the crew has to solve we don't care lol' as the later seasons of Lost in Space, with the added bonus of firing the wave-motion gun forming MegaZord shooting random technobabble shit from the main deflector array every third episode.

DS9 is probably tied with the original series with me for best series. Next Generation amazed me when I was younger because it gave such a fuck about worldbuilding and internal consistency, but the shine has kinda worn off it for me, and in retrospect some of it has a distinct Ivory Tower Hippie-Turned-Yuppie Librul feel to it. The Prime Dritective was a mistake.

From what I remember, the Romulans are technically a democracy (they have a Senate, which iirc had to vote on major shit and couldn't be overruled by the Praetor, Emperor/ess or Noble Houses on everything) that's got such heavily authoritarian/fascist overtones (the FBI NSA Tal Shiar, jingoism, eugenics, speciesism, nationalism, careerism, brutalizing both civilian prisoners and POWs, fanaticism, restrictions of freedom of expression, surveillance, paranoia, and the occasional unfortunate bout of feels-based decision-making) that it's breddy easy to mistake for pure fascism until they mention the Senate, although the franchise probably only extends to ethnic Romulans (IE the Romulan species).

Wrath of Khan 2: Into Darkness Boogaloo or the one that came out this year? I've heard the new one isn't as crap as the other two in the Reboot-verse then again people said the same thing about Revenge of the Sith.

t. Star Trek nerd

Liberals are every right-winger. From social liberals to conservative liberals to anti-state liberals/capitalists. Can we please stop using this American language and speak properly.

Nobody, not even Holla Forums supported the war in Iraq or the murder in Libya. This was solely on the warmongering neo-liberal/neo-con elite.

Meh, a lot of people supported it before they didn't. People are not that smart. It's not cool to support the Iraq war anymore so somehow everyone was a pacifist back then.

Maybe you're too oung to remember.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_15,_2003,_anti-war_protests

These were the biggest and most international protests that have occurred in my life. Some neo-con kek rats wrote opinion pieces in the papers at the time giving the illusion of support but support was really low among the public. Funny thing, the people that wrote articles in support of the Iraq war now write pieces for more direct involvement in Ukraine and Syria.

ITS NOT WAR U sinner ITS KINETIC MILITARY HUMAN RIGHTS

…which ultimately solidifed how pointless protesting was at least in merka, I remember a guy that drove hours out to washington only to see these pansexual hippies holding candlelight vigils and happily marching into a fucking cage. Needless to say he turned around right away.

things might have changed a bit since then, the stranglehold on the press from the neocucks is not nearly as strong now as it was in 03, but on the other hand they have coopted some of the alt press like democracy now which has become even more ineffectual

long story short, demonstrating peacefully in a vacuum is still a deeply western liberal token move, its kinda fits into that marx bit about how bujis take up a cause to make them feel better about themselves and their borderline parasitic existence without having to actually risk anything

lot of merkans got very antsy over syria, rightfully so, but instead of showy demonstrations they pressured the fuck out of their representatives, which had a much bigger effect

I've been using TNG to help introduce/discuss leftist ideas and concepts with a converted B████crat. Feels good man.

We should have Star Trek threads more often.

kek. So essentially Marx all but coined the term 'virtue signalling' over 100 years ago.

You're right here. I actually emailed my local MP when they were debating it in Parliament. Told him don't be fucking stupid. Actually got a response too when he was in the house. Strange that this works when mass protests didn't, but noted for future.

I remember there being some support generally among people that were still high on 9-11 fever and thought we should "finish what we started" from the first Gulf War.

Fair enough. There was more support than I made out but it wasn't substantial.

Back to my first point, this asshole was making a massive strawman.

yeah, it is downright counterintuitive probably for anyone coming up during that time, it was hard to even think of these people as people and not…well lizzards or something especially as a teen

But they are people, and if a congressmans phone+mailbox is blowing up with..polite threats they are gonna think long and hard about voting on something, the man that leaves two or three urgent messages with your aide is a lot more likely to organize against you in the next election than say, the half naked bongo player with dreads shouting about muh war for oil

Im not saying demonstrating is completely pointless, but it has to be coherent, it has to be one of a diverse set of tactics in a campaign of sorts.

the most effective demonstrations always had something more lurking behind it, even MLK admitted nobody would have really listened to him if malcolm X wasnt the alternative

good on you for bothering your MP, its a small thing but it requires effort and can actually have an effect

as for marx yeah he pretty much coined that, had a good phrase for it too, cant feckin find it right now but ill ask my old man, he loves to recite that bit and is by no means a marxist

TNG is indeed a good gateway drug, it's what got me into Star Trek and Roddenberry's idea of 'Technology Unchained' was probably my first introduction to anything vaguely socialist-y other than muh USSR.

Bitter Old Man Mode Turn On:

welcome to muh representative democracy in the new world world friendo, I love the gateke…eh organizers of these demos you know they are all basically informants, the leader of the school of the americas protest actually got caught giving info on participants to the popo iirc

When you believe in equality of opportunity not equality of outcome so you buy the most expensive health insurance money can buy and send your children to a private school and provide them with adequate nourishment and read them bed time stories and take them to soccer practice and you're an alcoholic but only the functional wine drinking kind and you live in neighbourhood where there aren't bloods or crips to join and your friend will set your future college graduate kid up with a job and you go on vacations

Aren't romulans and vulcans the same species but separated by different nations/planets

I saw a post on r/shitliberalssay where a liberal unironically said that slave results were morally wrong and the revolting slaves should have just waited for slavery to be over

you mean neolibs

you mean shills

A-another Enterprise fan and a Niven fan to boot!? I actually thought their explanations for DEEPEST LORE were usually decent, the show's real downfall was its chronic (lel) inability to follow up on anything, and its tiny flavorless cast of characters (fun characters like Shran should've been made regulars).

As for DS9, not only do the characters/factions act incredibly stupid (and as a result all their plots are so contrived), the show is simultaneously too right-wing edgy for Star Trek ("lelz de Federation haz seedy durk side") and artlessly slathers the leftism on too thick as well (the Cardassians, what happened to the Ferengi). The only nice things I can say about it are that Garak and Quark were good, and Voyager was much worse.

TNG, aside from how overall good and expansive the series/cast/setting as a whole is on average, has so many of the best episodes of the franchise.

I think he was talking about rank-and-file man in the street. Neither neoliberalism nor neoconservatism have ever been popular among either side of the partisan divide outside the halls of power.
