To be fair, part of the reason they censor die Hakenkreuze is because in Germany and Austria too I believe, any representation of those and certain other symbols related to the NSDAP are strictly banned from appearing in any media whatsoever. It's not allowed in video games, movies, books, comics, nothing. Anything with any such symbols which they want to market in Germany, they have to scrub the symbols and then petition the state rating board. So if memory serves, things like Wolfenstein 3D and Inglorious Basterds (not that they missed much in the latter) were strictly banned in Germany, and for the WW2 cowadooty games to be allowed they had to change all the swastika banners to show some other sanctioned thing instead.
