MC being a bitch is what ruins most harem anime. Love Hina is like a slow burning dumpster fire in that regard and seems to have been the blueprint for the rest of the "genre". Recently shit has been getting better, but authors and editors are still incredibly reluctant to commit themselves to resolving the harem issue one way or the other for whatever reason.

The issue isn't really harem, since it's basically a market of the ratio of male to female characters in an anime/manga. The problem is how very few do fuckall with the harem label.

Just take To Love Ru. It's a shitpile, but if it didn't focus on rehashing the same fucking "protagonist walks in on the girl being naked and ends up groping them by accident" situation every chapter and instead focused on the wider sci-fi universe it hints at and the political and personal ramifications of having so many girls after you it would be a fun story to read.

That's the issue with virtually all harems. None of them ever go beyond very shallow character development. I mean, you have a situation where the protagonist has a bunch of girls after him, where do you go from there? Do they all learn to share and make the weird relationship work? Do they go full School Days and take a boat trip? What is the reaction of people outside the group? What about society at large? What has brought them together and keeps them around each other? You can make a harem situation work and be interesting, but it takes effort, just like it takes effort to make shonen interesting instead of having the MC asspull a power at the critical moment and win through sheer luck (and then forget everything about it, do nothing to learn from his mistakes and have the same shit happen again a few chapters down the line).

She's super annoying (Imagine Usagi from Sailor Moon on speed) in early episodes only to realize that her carefree attitude was the cause of her problems and ruining her chance in romance.

I think thats a bit of an over exaggeration. Its not so terrible that its unwatchable, its just got some really subpar episodes full of randumb humor. all things said, the characters actually change as the narrative continues, so it has that going for it. Its worth watching if you are bored if only for Ludo.

This season premiere was really flawed, the ideas were nice but the execution was mediocre at best, it cut badly between episodes and that wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a four parter.
I'm sure they'll explain the suddenpowers/quick death later but I'm really mad about that Eclipsa doesn't seems as a charismatic villain that Toffee was

I never understood this. What's the point of wanting a character to suffer? Is the same complain I hear about Dipper/Mabel. I understand that suffering is relatable and it adds depth to the character, but what's wrong with non-struggling characters? How would you say certain "struggles" are better than other for said characters? In Star's case, is only natural and almost cliche, her responsibilities hit her like a bus, she wants to be different but the reality is not like that.
