Why haven't you joined the One Big Union?
Prison Strike Sep. 9th
...
Dude I can't wait. I got a guy in cook county jail I was talking with him over the phone a week ago, and he's telling me its going to be fucking insane.
Is there any show of solidarity I can do
Been meaning to go to one of their general meetings. Is it all rich autistic kids like most left wing things?
I can't get rid of the feeling of futility here, but I hope for the best for these men and women. I wonder how many media outlets will report this.
I guess you could help to distribute leaflets or something.
Have faith comrade, and start organizing! It's already the largest prison strike in U.S. history.
Are there really no other FWs here?
If you're not a member, what organization do you work with, and why are they more effective than the Wobs?
Let go of your nostalgia
Industrial unionism probably couldn't be effective through the general strike alone. But the IWW is important as a face and organizing front for the militant working class. Prison abolition is just as relevant to building socialism as wage slavery abolition is, and the IWW has been making concrete steps towards abolishing both.

Democracy now probably will. Unless something rather big happens that cant be ignored, there probably wont be alot of coverage.
I joined. It was full of cancerous feminists who were only interested in safe spaces and #killallmen. I left again as it was a waste of time.
Richest person i met at a meeting is retired. Alot of members are parts of other unions or are in low wage jobs that will fire you for trying to organize, that's how i got fired from my last job.
Just goes to show that you never got involved with any organizing campaigns. If you had you would have realized how serious they are about labor struggles and reviving working class militancy.
"Aint nobody here can join it for him
He's gotta go down and join the union for himself"
No, they really were only interested in using the union as a vehicle for promoting space spaces and idpol generally. I've posted enough evidence in the past about this.
Anyone who doubts me can simply head along to #iww on freenode and see the array of idpol pushing scum who lurk their for themselves.
Banging out those IWW tunes
sjw's on the internet are not the ones going out and trying to organize workplaces, going to strikes and trying to further the interests of working people. They're sitting at home on the computer complaining about how cis-white males.
That's something they share with the people I met in the IWW, then.
How can I help? are there going to be protests … you know… outside of prisons?
If thats those are the people you consider SJW's, then your the problem m8
yes, anywhere where these prisoners are being organized, friends and family and supporters will be outside the prisons.
iww.org.uk
If you say so. Enjoy being cancer.
look at these
got anything that inst a year and a half old and actually got passed in the union?
most fuckin marxists arnt going out and doing anything either, theyre sitting on the computer complaining about muh s-jews and pol
whens the last time you ever heard of a marxist occupation or a fucking "red block"
Heres the best part about that, as soon in defense of this Marxists will bring up the Naxalite's or one of the Marxist Party's in some contry and say "Hey, we do stuff too!" but as soon as you bring up something that anarchists and libertarian leftists have done that is either just as relevant or even more so they will shit all over it as have no relevance whatsoever or calling them counter revolutionary or capitalist puppets. I don't really have that much against Marxist's, especially libertarian Marxists as i have worked with them within the IWW, but i just love to watch the stupidity and clearly dogmatic bullshit that Internet Marxists love to spout. Its just fun to watch.
As opposed to you, who does nothing besides being snarky on an imageboard and jerk off to Bob Black.
Mailed to me, after I left the union:
Motion 4 - Women's officer motion
Proposer: Luke Thorold - Seconder. Rob Reading
Rule change: Under Rule 9: Duties of RA Officers, strike the following-
Women's Officer
11. The Women’s Officer shall self-define as a woman
12. The Women’s Officer shall take the lead in encouraging initiatives and action by the whole union on women and gender equality in IWW. This will include recruitment of women, supporting women in the workplace and equality and opportunities for women in IWW.
13. The Women’s Officer will encourage the development of training on gender issues and the measures to facilitate the participation of women in training.
14. Recognising that issues have a gender dimension and, taking into account workload issues, that the women’s officer should be consulted on them.
Replace with: Gender Equality Officer
11. The Gender Equality Officer shall self define as non-male.
12. The Gender Equality Officer shall take an active lead in encouraging initiatives and action by the whole union on gender equality in the IWW. This will include recruitment of non-male members, supporting non-male members in the workplace and seeking equality and opportunities for non-men in the IWW.
13. The Gender Equality Officer will actively encourage the development of training on gender issues and measures to facilitate the participation of non-men in training.
14. Recognising that issues have a gender dimension and, taking into account workload issues, the Gender Equality Officer should be consulted by all officers regularly.
15. The Gender Equality Officer shall endeavour to further educate themselves on gender issues so as to be an authoritative figure to be consulted by any members seeking guidance on gender issues; with this in mind, the Gender Equality Officer shall co-ordinate with the Gender Equity Committees present throughout the IWW to share knowledge and understanding.
Furthermore, let it be resolved to strike any further reference to a 'Women's Officer' from the current rulebook, to be replaced with 'Gender Equality Officer'
Amendment: Proposed by Luke Thorold/ friendly
Replace 'non-male' in all occurrences with 'non-cis-male'.
Vote: Carried (Votes not listed)
Amendment: Proposed by Marion Hursh/ Unfriendly
“Conference recognises
1. The wider understanding of gender identities.
2. The way the employing class uses issues of gender, sexuality and gender identity to try to divide and oppress the workers.
3. The extent of the work required on these issues and the importance of ensuring that neither the issues specifically affecting women nor the wider issues are given insufficient importance.”
Change the motion to become an addition to the rule book. Insert the following under Rule 9: Duties Of RA Officers (readjust rule numbers accordingly)-
GLBTQI+ officer
The LGBTQI+ officer shall self-define as one or more of the identities in LGBTQI+
The LGBTQI+ Officer shall take the lead in encouraging initiatives and action by the whole union in relationship to sexuality and gender identity and work together with the women's officer in encouraging initiatives and action on gender equality in IWW. This will include recruitment of LGBTQI+ FWs, supporting LGBTQI+ FWs in the workplace and equality and opportunities for LGBTQI+ FWs in IWW.
The LGBTQI+ Officer will encourage the development of training on issues relating to sexuality and gender identity and measures to facilitate the participation of LGBTQI+ FWs in training. The LGBTQI+ Officer will also together with the Women’s Officer encourage discussion and debate on issues relating to sexuality, gender and gender identity and encourage all members to educate themselves of these issues.
Recognising that issues have sexuality and gender identity dimensions and, taking into account workload issues, that the LGBTQI+ officer should be consulted on them.
Add 'LGBTQI+ Officer' after 'Women's Officer' wherever the responsibilities and entitlements of officers are specified in the rule book.
Vote - throwing out Marion's amendment as out of order. Vote → amendment thrown out. 23 to 20 votes
Vote on motion as amended – Fell - 41 in favour, 32 against
i can name plenty of anarchist occupations protests and actions since 2000, but cant remember a single clearly marxist event or happening, they havent done anything since like 1950 and all their past glories are irrelevant or being used as propaganda against them
So they renamed the Women's Officer the Gender Equality Officer and allowed any non-cis-male be able to hold the position, and added a gay officer and your panties are all in a twist over it?
God damn you suck, mentioning gender or sexuality isn't idpol. Peter Thiel and Hillary Clinton are, being against their brand of "liberation" isn't the same as being against any mention of gays and gender non-conforming people. Hell their main duties include recruiting others like them, how is that idpol?
Not him, but how is that "equality"? And don't give me the "men are oppressing" BS. Women are equally oppresing gay peope and they, given the power, would equally oppress "cis" people.
don't have a job,, i'm only a student
you can still join the IWW.
Im going to say that they only changed the name of the position from The Women’s Officer to The Gender Equality Officer that they wouldn't want a man to be in charge of issues specifically relating to women.
However it seems that the motions wernt past unless im not reading that correctly.
Spotted the problem, idpol scum?
Always happy to receive invective from your sort. More please!
Indeed, but this was tumblr wanting recognition for their million made up genders. So, yes, it's idpol and seems we've found the SJWs.
You'll also note a majority voted in favour.
To everyone else, by all means sign up and give this lot your money if that's what you want to do. Don't say you weren't warned if you find things not as these guys are trying to present them.
I don't see how having a woman in charge of things specifically relating to women is idpol or not a good idea
yes, but they didn't pass. That's the thing that matters, its a good way of demonstration the importance of actually combating the SJW elements within the union, you could have stayed and fought against it, but instead you left and came here to complain about them being shit when you had to opportunity to fight the things that made it shit.
That ship sailed a long time ago.
I left after I started posting here. I've come to the conclusion that the left has been overrun by idpol and the ideas posted here are valueless. I only remain as I have nowhere else to go.
Some Marxists/Trotskyists actually are making baby steps. Council woman in Seattle who helped get $15/hr min wage, and now they've got $15/hr as a ballot referendum in Minneapolis, getting something like 22,000 signatures and winning court cases for it
Not much, but we can't ignore the baby steps even if they aren't the full vision of what we'd like to see, both Anarchists AND Marxists
.
My advice:
-I say find which one's methods and results you prefer
-Find your local branch
-Stop posting divisive idpol shit on an image board
-Join an org or start a branch, and get active if you are physically capable of it
The time is now, comrades
Because they are part of the left-wing of capital.
They are a union after all, an "anarchist", "red", "one big" union, but still a union, which means they are an arm of the bourgeois state into the workers' struggle to limit it from within.
