The Red Book is a bit dense for people who aren't familiar with Jung's earlier works, still a great read. Working through all of Jung's published works chronologically now, have a nice big physical copy of the Red Book to reread when done. Get the illustrated PDF if you can find it, it's got some great stuff.

Granted I haven't read it, but I have a pretty extensive knowledge of Western philosophy. Based on the Wiki, it seems to capture many of the essential insights from Western philosophy (e.g. idealism) but I haven't read it so I can't account for whether the explanations are actually sensible.

If you're looking for more "secrets" you should simply read as extensively as possible. Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Hobbes, Descartes, Hume, Kant, etc. Although a lot of people are familiar with the names, they rarely actually read the damn material so they don't notice how based Plato was. Plato was the original fascist, he basically promoted eugenics as an essential element of his ideal state.

Would anons be interested in a reading group? Not sure how I would set it up. I've heard the claim that the Stalag edition is bad many times, and am confused, because for me the Stalag was much easier to read. Here's the first sentence of the the author's preface from both translations.

That is to be expected when translating to English. But all in all, Stalag has better word choice and flow than Ford. Ford feels choppy and unpolished. Like in school when someone who's slow at reading or has bad reading comprehension is reading aloud in class and just butchering the sentence or paragraph. That's what Ford feels like.

I can't help you too much with translations, but for context, honestly you would be fine just skimming over the wikipedia article. A lot of Stoicism boils down to understanding what you can, and can't control and accepting things for what they are. It also is a way of living life, and perceiving the world. A lot of it is about dominating and conquering the self, all justified and backed by logic. This is probably an inadequate explanation, but don't be too intimidated by it, it is a pretty easy book to pick-up, just don't forget to contemplate on his words.

Maybe some of these pictures will help you with Nietzsche, but I don't have much experience with him, so I am not the one to ask or answer. I plan on reading Thus Spoke Zarathustra when I find the time.
