I want Paradox to reach singularity for their games and have a huge timeline/research tree with the ability for world wars to break out, espionage, economic planning, investment, random events.

I think if they just threw off the shackles of historical accuracy they could churn something out like this. I hope they or someone else do it eventually.

Something like Vicky2, with espionage more advanced than HoI3, and the equipment system of HoI4. Imagine starting at swords, horses, cannons and working your way up to assault rifles, tanks and drones.

Was a bit salty that espionage didn't come with it, I liked it in HoI3 but even then it was a DLC and still could have had more to it.

Piracy has never been widespread enough to account for games getting dumbed down. What really happens is that a niche game hits all the fans it's going to and devs build up a small but dedicated fanbase, then publishers go NO WE NEED MORE SHEKELS and demand more sales. The only way to do this is by widening the fanbase, hence the drive towards simplicity and dumbing down to make the games more accessible.

It's for the purpose of the way the game's politics function. If you upset your conservative political base too much, they will quickly flip to being reactionary, if you do it to the socialists, they will become communists, and liberals turn into ancaps.

Funny thing is, if ancaps ever gain power, your nation becomes a "bourgeoisie dictatorship".

Pick a nation with pontial like Brazil if you want easy mode or egypt. With Brazil you will have zero problems and with egypt you will depend on another great power to fight with you against the ottomans but if you can win that the whole middle east and africa are open to glorious liberation.

Balance the budget, max fund education, abolish slavery as soon as you can(appoint governments to generate dissent help, focus on industrial and farming tech, ignore army tech at the start since you can win your local wars without that, annex uruguay as early as you can too,once you get a second focus point go for capitalists and watch the economy roll. if everything goes right you should be able to become a great power and get easy east west africa colonies(which could also try to annex early but watch out for that infamy)

the trick is to mobilise and have two armies one for engaging the enemy one for taking back lost territory
let the egyptians come into the mountains and attack there or make them attack you if possible use both stacks on them at once if you fight defensively the terrain will let you kill them over time until they are weak enough for you to start taking provinces from them by that point they will have gained so many losses you only need to take a couple provinces to get a favourable peace

I can't even train more beforehand due to wool never being in supply, and can't buy any because Ethiopia is constantly broke.

Try letting them get inside Ethiopia then take back a province so they aren't connected the attrition and lack of supply hurts bad mountains usually heavily favor the defenders

That's probably my problem, I only have irregulars. I am restarting again, I was only 7 years in and I think if I prepared a little better I could curb stomp them. I'm playing on easy rather than very easy so I expected to get rused a bit first time round.

I don't think I'll be able to get military reform, because I was thinking of getting education reform first along with full clergyman focus and educational and admin funding in order to get more reform pushed through quickly. Either way I was only halfway to being able to reform by the time they invaded, in 1842 I think.

Though I hate having mudskins inside my borders so I tend to just do contiguous inside-Europe blobs and sphere any RGO producers I need. But a colonial empire is better and easier.

You shouldn't have much money in the treasury. Unless you're saving up for a burst of fort/naval base upgrades (let capitalists handle railroads) you should be adjusting your budget to take in only as much money as you need and let the rest drive your economy. Lower taxes means more consumption and easier social mobility.

If you want to get resources to build units as unciv you can try to get sphered by a GP. Increase relationship with someone like France or USA, eventually they will start increasing their influence over you.

A lot of the game seems to rest upon RNGesus too. My first playthrough I got shit events, second time around I got an event that let me get a chunk of prestige, which then allowed me to make a decision expanding my country's borders more within a couple of years of start.
