Rumour has it that authorities across America are preparing for the internet to go down for at least a week. Supposedly it'll happen somewhere this year or in the first half of 2018, and they're preparing for chaos and riots in case shit would hit the fan.

Then consider what impact a disruption would have on the stock market alone. once it came back up and trading worked again everyone would flee to gold and commodities. The market and especially tech companies, would fucking collapse for years.

If there are any oldfags here, you'll remember that the world functioned just fine without the Internet prior to the mid-90s. It was slower, a lot less convenient, and information was much more difficult to find and disseminate, but people owned and ran businesses, attended school, held events, all without email or Faceberg. Black people had welfare. The military trained and ran campaigns without the internet. All these things even happened without cell phones. I don't think the world would grind to a halt, but it would slow down a considerable amount.
I don't think this will happen if for no other reason than the internet is a huge vehicle for commerce now. Shutting it down would deprive Jewish CEOs of shekels and government of tax revenue, both things that they would never stand for.

I was without power for 3 days after Hurricane Matthew, and without Internet for 4 or 5 days. No mobile Internet either because the tower got damaged. It was brutal and being without Internet was worse than being without electricity, for me. People will definitely lose their minds if there's a nationwide Internet blackout for that long.
