I started reading this book called The Fourth Political Theory by Alexander Dugin. Apparently, Mr. Dugin has close ties to Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin and advises him on geopolitical affairs.
The 20th century ideologies of Liberalism, Communism, and Fascism have all died upon the victory of Liberalism after the USSR's fall. The world will continue to evolve into a post-modern, post-industrial, globalist world from what was originally Liberalism.
What arises out of the ashes of this is the theoretical fourth political system, which is an opposition to the globalist world where rich elites can do anything they want. Globalism is moving towards automation more and more; the millions that are out of work are getting angrier by the minute.
When the technological singularity is reached and nobody is doing any work anymore, a new system will arise out of the social unrest of billions of people. At this singularity point, the world will eventually evolve into the fourth political system that Mr. Dugin talks about, which I think will be a Spartan-style political system.
In Sparta, you were forbidden to do work. You were given slaves and they did work for you. However, the barrier to entry to enjoy the fruits of Spartan society was massive. You were challenged right from birth and had to serve in the military until your 30's. Only then were you allowed entry into the perfect society.
In a future society where everything is automated, nobody is going to want leeches sucking off of the system and breeding endlessly like rabbits. There will be genetic testing and challenges put forth upon new members of the perfect aristocratic society where nobody has to do work.
This system is not a communist nor a capitalist system. The worker's paradise of communism cannot happen if there is no work for workers to do. Nor can people work their way up in a capitalist system, for then again there is no work to be done.
My question is does anyone see things this way? Is there an alternative path that politics will take upon the technological singularity?
Beyond that: Russia is a known home of mumbo-jumbo (one need only think of Lysenkoism). They produce these grand theories that are supposed to explain the universe by the dozen, yet they invariably clash with reality. Whence does Dugin take the idea that we'll reach a technological singularity? Will resource depletion not be an issue? Or fossil fuels? Who will program the robots? Will the unions and state bureaucracies, overbloated and impervious to market pressures even today, not defend themselves? In true Russian manner, he just takes some concept (technological singularity) and uses it as an excuse not to think.
Automation will destroy jobs, but the powerful control the automation and they will have no interest in letting any modern Spartas arise. For that to happen, universal factories will have to be a dime a dozen, so that every schmuck can just get some nanobots and construct his little utopia in his backyard. This is not going to happen for three reasons: 1. Matter cannot be poofed into existence. If someone doesn't have access to Africa's minerals, he won't build shit. Supply chains, which are the domains of multinational corporations, will still by required. 2. Technology is concentrated in a few hands it that will remain so in the foreseeable future. Who here has CNC machines and sterile environment for the production of microchips in his backyard? Who here has any knowledge of VLSI or AI or cryptoanalysis? How much of the general population knows anything about that? This technology and knowledge will not magically spread out, especially not in our culture. Consider that the people who will be hardest hit by automation will be those with the least technological acumen. They might riot in the streets, but they won't mount attacks on the Internet backbone. 3. Intelligence is a limiting factor. Being a hard man might have been enough in ancient Sparta, but it won't be enough 20 years from now. The current system needs whole armies of engineers and scientists to keep to afloat. Any rebellion that doesn't include them is doomed to fail. Angry mobs might be able to destroy civilization, but they won't be able to maintain it.

I've also started reading The Fourth Political Theory. I've not finished it yet but so far I haven't come across anything to do with a neo Sparta or technological singularity. Maybe I'm not remembering, I put it down a few weeks ago and I've been meaning to pick it back up
Dugin's dissection of Liberalism and the American world order is top notch though and I encourage people to read it. His philosophy seems to be one of embracing human collective identities i.e. ethnic, religious, also tradition and family etc in the face of the liberal cult of the individual, globalism and transhumanism.
From what I've read Dugin doesn't seem to be anti technology or technology progress. He sites the Iranian revolution at one point as an example of what he means. It was a conservative revolution which rejected the idea that liberalism is the only way that you can have a prosperous society with modern technology. I don't have the passage to hand sorry.
He's not and he deserves to be read and understood, especially with the way things are going globally with the declining American empire. I'm not saying Russia is going to be the new hyperpower but their influence will increase and people like Dugin will be listened to in non western countries.
Not everything he says is bad, indeed he speaks a lot of sense. His book has been a very interesting read and I've taken much from it. I don't go in for his Eurasianism but I don't think anyone except Russians would. You don't have to hang off his every word like some cult member just because he said something you might agree with. Take from his philosophy what you want.

You're right about fascism, he doesn't have much interest in it. He's not a commie though either. One of his basic ideas is that the 20th century was the battlefield of three main ideologies, Liberalism, Marxism and Fascism who fought one another for mantle of modernity. Liberalism came out on top and now we're moving or have moved into post-modernity wherein the liberal ideology has saturated everything to the point where it's indistinguishable from everyday life, snuffing out all competition.
To fight liberalism he proposes we take another look at the ideologies that it defeated, pick over their ruins and take from them things we find useful in building something new. He calls it the "metaphysics of debris" or something to that effect. Hes not an advocate of simply regurgitating Fascism or Communism again to fight Liberalism.
The most important thing to remember when reading 4PT (indeed During says as much) is that it isn't really a theory or political system as you say, at all. It's more of a question that hasn't been answered yet, a thought experiment.

Liberalism only came out on top because the "liberal" west and marxists ganged up on fascists due to a "certain" group of people that had a great deal of control and influence even back then. the reason for this is simple our desires will be used by the singularity in order to control us because that is its only means of doing so, the other reason is that the singularity, given that it has no fleshy needs or desires as we understand them, will not respond or be bound by the pleads of those who do, it would take a human mind of nearl freedom from bodily needs to be able to relate and in turn interact with it on a meanful level.

That would be a fairly dumb system. Creating perfect killer society has no use in a world where you don't need slave labour. It's also wasteful in a world without competitors (if it's global).
Spartans were also famous for despising material possessions beyond the bare, functional necessities. They had no "Aristocracy" of any kind. Individual Spartans earned their standing and respect through meritocracy but that didn't include luxuries and it wasn't hereditary.
