Venezuela is on famine right now because goverment subsided all business that were producing goods, including all the industries producing wheat, rice and all sorts of shit. It has nothing to do with oil prices dropping.
Inflation is also caused by the sudden decrees of wage increases, this devaluates the coin even more in the market and makes things cost way more than what the wage is supposed to fix.

The problem of them subsiding the industries is that afterwards they never invested anything into them, they literally trew people out into the streets and then tore down the buildings they used to work in because they were part of the 'evil capitalistic empire' (i'm not exagerrating here, that's one of the speeches Chavez gave when he subsided a fishing business in Zulia).
There's a difference in wanting to redistribute wealth for the betterment of the people and literally moneygrubbing to the point an entire country is left in an irreparable famine.
There is no 'economic warfare', nor 'acaparadores' or any other goddamn buzzword they come up with for the cause of this shit. It's simply them destroying the economy and blaming it on USA and CIA while taking trips to Cuba on 200k private jets. This wasn't even started by Maduro, this was on the horizon just back then at 2006 when Chavez tore down Polar Industries (literally 30% of Venezuela's GDP was exportation of products Polar made, like wheat). The oil crash wouldn't even have been that jarring if it wasn't for the lack of food production in this country.

Caracas.- Elias Jaua (deputy in the National Assembly from the United Socialist party of Venezuela/PSUV) affirmed this Sunday that the government isn't afraid of the recall referendum against the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
“We don't want a recall referendum because we're defenders of the fight to govern that this popular current, democratically elected in legitimate and transparent processes, has. The government aims to finish the constitutional period that it started. We're defending what we believe in", said Jaua during an interview in the TV program “Diálogo con… Carlos Croes”.
Furthermore, the parliamentarian affirmed that the opposition delayed the referendum process by not requesting it in January 10th this year, when the first half of the presidential period finished, due to its internal contradictions and poor leadership. “It's impossible for the referendum to occur this year. The opposition coalition must assume its responsibility before its voters without blaming the Government or the Electoral Power (CNE)”, he said.
In that sense, Jaua asked people to respect the Public Powers in Venezuela due to the fact that they possess “institutional competencies and are the guarantee of stability of the Republic”, and added that the decision of the collegiate bodies cannot be disregarded.
Similarly, he stressed that the officialism has always accepted electoral results and the Public Powers' sentences. “We have lost elections and we acknowledge it”, he expressed.
Likewise, he considered the fact that the referendum won't occur this year as “positive”, as it would let the president govern and finish his constitutional period, and focus on “obtaining revenue, developing the mining arc and mixed enterprises”, in addition, “keep fighting for the oil prices' stability and treating the external debt” during those six months to provide “stability” to the population.
Moreover, he repeated that Nicolás Maduro won't resign because he will defend “this democratic popular current”'s ability to rule the country.
He also guaranteed that the PSUV is stronger than ever and Chavismo is a force that works in the same strategic project to protect the Venezuelan people, and that the Venezuelan citizens have asked for political dialogue to solve their problems, while the opposition has “ignored” the discussion.
“President Nicolás Maduro has called for dialogue in many opportunities, but opposition has just mocked the opinion of the majority of the Venezuelan people” said Jaua.

In regard to the country's critical situation, Jaua has pointed out that the private sector has most of the weight on the national economy.
“It's time for private industries to give a response to the Venezuelan people”, Jaua stated, and in turn, he suggested that the private sector should “break” its logic that it can only obtain profit with speculative prices. “A big part of businessmen have not invested to increase their production, they place ceilings to keep speculating and to obtain an illegitimate gain”, he added.
He also emphasized that the government has always supported the private sector by assigning subsidized dollars, providing funds to public banks and subsidies to goods, services, and companies' technological infrastructure.
“Most of the weight of the economy is on the private sector. The Venezuelan people want to get out of this situation, but without going back to the neoliberal model and to the privatization of the national assets”, expressed Jaua.

It's the oil prices, it happens in Venezuela every time the price drops. Basically they don't grow their own food much because they can use oil money to buy it from other countries, which is much easier than growing it on their own. However when the oil price is low they can't afford as much and the store shelves go empty, you'd think they would have learned their lesson by now but Capitalism is like that.
