What is leftypol's favorite soviet military aircraft?
What is leftypol's favorite soviet military aircraft?
Im not into planes or fetishizing soviet imagery sorry.
Except for playing red orchestra 2. I never play nazis, I simply refuse.
They are feats of technology not just merely aesthetic. The Mi-8 is one of the most produced aircraft in the world and has been instrumental in humanitarian, firefighting and logistical roles.
MiG-25. Trolled the Americans into developing the F-15 (they never said thank you) and was fast as shit, fasted tracked speed being Mach 3.2 in the early 1970s. Made from steel (and some titanium) so it would survive the absurd speeds it could achieve. Not the most maneuverable bird, but it didn't need to be; it was an interceptor. They strapped the most ridiculous radar array they could find on the front so that everyone knew it was coming. Used vacuum tubes to help it survive the EMP from a nuclear blast. All-round badass piece of tech.
Soviet technology is so functional it's beautiful. People who say that the USSR has nothing to do with socialism clearly don't know how it affected their engineering standards. The USSR planned to have a world-class military and it was achieved. It sucked the resources and brilliance out of every other part of the economy, but it was achieved. Soviet military tech litters the world, fighting wars that were never imagined at the time, and will keep doing so long into the future. So much was wasted on it. All that potential poured into war machines; machines designed to fight the ultimate war, the last war. Such a bitter irony that the USSR is dead but its war machines are still fighting.
Tbh the more I look into the USSR and its economy the more it becomes obvious that any difference in standards of living between them and the West are largely the result of where they chose to put their focus. It's pretty obvious that whenever they actually put real effort into something they were able to keep pace with and exceed the West. The problem is that they were unable to focus on both these projects and more benign things.
Why would Holla Forums care about Soviet aircraft in particular?
The ones that could carry Atomic Bombs, comrade.
...
I'm pretty autistic but not that autistic
It didn't have socialism, but a planned economy is incredible. Soviet industrialization was a sane and humane endeavor compared to American and British industrialization.
Right…
Any of the round bodied MiG designs, particularly the MiG-19 and MiG-15 as they embodied the soviet ideal of cheap and mass producible yet still effective. the Yak-9 is also a awesome design for taking out Nazi Jet Fighters
MiG-19 Fagot best NATO designation tbh
Tupolev Tu-95. Hands down. Fastest propeller-driven aircraft ever, and it's a massive fucking bomber.
2 quad-bladed, contra-rotating propellers per turboprop engine for a total of 32 blades. The blade tips spin faster than mach 1 so it's loud as hell. Pilots of other planes report hearing it over their own engines.
i'm a big fan of Soviet ingenuity and engineering skills.
not so much of communism tho
Communism never existed in the USSR. Don't believe the tankie lies.
uhm i wonder?
is true that communism did't exist in the USSR, but it was socialist
You can post Yugoslav aircraft too
good overall designe but shitty engine intake, doesn't look like it has any shock inlets at all.
could be wrong and they're using the same system as the f15 in which case its still shit
Neat idea but why not incase you electronics package in mu metal instead?
Su-25 hands down. Faster, cheaper, and more heavily armed than the A-10. The only thing the A-10 has over the Su-25 is the rate of fire for it's 30mm gun.
and more manuverable
And more heavily amoured.
i'v seen a demilitarized one for sale for 250k.
would be cool to have your own jet fighter
10/10 would remilitarize it just for the shits n gigs.
Not at all, they were state capitalists.
With tubes you don't need environmental control in your avionics (or shielding) and they can still deliver stupid amounts of power. The Soviets didn't care so long as it was robust and it worked. They were probably cheaper to boot.
