I would like to be the first to say that I am a multiculturalist, but I believe that nationalist attitudes are necessary to preserve the benefits of multiculturalism globally.
For instance, consider the different products created by the West and Japan and how they arise as a result of cultural attitudes in those countries. The West's ingenuity and curiosity brought us the first automobile. Japanese efficiency and discipline brought us efficient and reliable vehicles that many people across the world use today in order to better their lives.
In the absence of a difference between these two cultures, the final optimized product would not exist.
