In all seriousness though, I think it deserves some thought. I remember a week or two ago, after the game had been released in States but before it had here, there was a thread along the lines of "is Pokemon GO the ultimate triumph of the spectacle?"

And of course was like 'what, no - you're retarded - its a fucking app'

Then I saw them - the drone swarms.

Someone (perhaps the city itself) apparently loads up a particular park downtown with lures, this has produced an eerie phenomenon. Like some kind of dystopian cyberpunk scene, crowds of at least one hundred (that I pretentiously dubbed 'a solitude') all converge together yet distinctly fail to form a whole, shuffling between each other with no shared focal point (like a speaker or band ect.) or shared experience.

Watching them staring into their phones oblivious to each other, I couldn't help but thinking “All that was once directly lived has become mere representation,” as a shiver passed down my spine.

Yeah, people were pretty rude in that thread, but they've failed to realise that the quantitative changes into qualitative.

My friend coaxed me into downloading it, but I don't play it much because it honestly is a shitty game, I just wanted to enjoy it with her.

I needed to take a walk yesterday and it motivated me to go out in the 115 degree weather though, so there's that.

I resisted playing it for awhile because of this sort of thing, but it really is cool to see families going out and playing it together, and even old people hobbling along catching Pokemon.

People do interact with each other and make friends while playing it though, you're incorrect about that part. The parks are packed in my city now, before people just stayed inside because it's too hot in the summer.

Pokemon Go is everything wrong with capitalism.

It doesn't sell based on quality of the product, rather based on brand name and popularity. It's barely a game. It barely works. It has 3 ideologies that have no meaning yet people become fanatical about. Once it got famous enough and the market stabilized a bit, they rigged the amount of pokeballs needed to catch, so that you'll have to pay more, as you have become adicted.

Not playing pokemon go is having a noticeably negative effect on my not very healthy social life.
Most all of my friends play it to some degree, and I would to if not for my outdated communications device. In a moment of weakness I actually entertained the idea of buying a new phone for the purpose of joining my friends in poke-hunts.
But it's a fad, and I have a technologically impaired friend to shelter the storm with.
Also this is a great chance to nurture family relations and funpost on the internet.

I wanted to say that you can just go along with your friends without playing it, but I guess that probably wouldn't work. People already use their phones too much during real-life social interactions, I can only imagine how bad and infuriating it could be during this game.
