So i'm 18, yah it's pretty late to finally show interest in politics, but yeah, where should I start guys, if you have any suggestion about Communism/Anarchism.

Don't listen to this guy

Read this instead

Just go to youtube and look for Richard D Wolff/Democracy at Work

Every month he puts out an Economic Updates video where he talks about what's going on economically and politically.

Take notes on the subjects he talks about and the terms he uses, then google them to find out more.

He's a Marxist but his lectures aren't heavy with theory or terms and he's the most entry-level of entry-level and you'll be introduced to plenty of ideas and concepts that later leftist reading will flesh out for you.

Thank you guys

Also, check out Xexizy's channel. His vids are pretty easy to understand.

Jesus christ Dialectical and Historical Materialism by Stalin is garbage, don't read it as an introduction

XD i agree, it's pretty bad, but it doesn't hurt to read it as well

Fastest way to alienate a potential comrade.

wew, comrade, wew

I don't know where the fuck you came from, but you should go back there asap

No, make me

Only the Malatesta text is anarchist, the other two are Marxists.

dont do this you will become a liberal moutbreather

Okay, so what am i supposed to do ?

ignore all the advice here and just go learn whatever you want tbh

what a fucking pleb

I'm looking for advices tho.

best advice is no advice.
JUST DO IT.

Idk comr8, i'm pretty skeptical.

Well you tell me to go learn w/e I want to learn, but :

hm ?
if you're the same person, i mean.

oh its another episode of "I only want to learn things that make me lick boots"

kys

Don't listen to any anarchist on Holla Forums. They don't know shit about theory.

Read these:

yes good worker.
Give all the capital to the state, which is by the way completely different from having porky control it all ;)

Jesus fucking christ this is the most horrible way you can ever introduce someone to cancer'ism. Hey there new guy welcome to the club, now read fucking everything to belong here!

Nobody here reads anything so you fit right in, just spout old left rhetoric and do some historical larping of the soviet union or Catalonia and you will fit in just fine.

If you actually want to be smart about it and dont follow the first marxist dogma you will come across i would recommend this post.

Anyway i would just recommend to just check the wiki's and start self exploring on what appeals to you. Marxism is generally cancer tho and Hegel is the End Boss.

I found leftypol this morning, and you're all already in my heart.
Well I'll just found out by myself, but thank you>>835422 i'll check it out.

It starts with short essays and brochures, advances into longer things and ends with moloths like das Kapital, it's not rocket science you double nigger

Kolakowski explains what it actually means to be "left." It might seem a bit obscure but it'll make sense the more you hang around here and read from other sources.

Mandel explains Marxism in 60 pages. He's a giant, just read the introduction to see why.

You then get two more texts, one dedicated to explaining the LTV, a big deal in Marx's theory, and a handbook explaining various things you'll encounter when you finally tackle Marx himself.

Finally you have Wolff, probably the foremost Marxian economist today. He'll take you through contemporary economic theory in very easy to understand language, including his interpretation of Marx. You can tell he's spent a lot of time breaking down complex issues in order present them to brainwashed Americans. It's the hardest book to get through, imo, but finish all of these and you'll know more than 95% of posters here. I still haven't finished it because I'm a scrub, but I'll get there.

Concerning Marx, start with "Wage labor and capital" then "Value price and profit" – if you understand all of that, and you should after the above, then you can move onto Capital itself. Good luck.

Imo before you start on Marx and socialism you should look into liberalism and also read a bit of history. I'd start with anything by John Stewart Mill, Voltaire, John Locke, or any of the 18th century liberal philosophers. Socialism has its roots with them. Also Plato is always good since you want to start with some of Western philosophy's foundations.

2 really good historical books are:

The Contours Of American History [good over-view of how things developed from the first colonies in the 17th century to the 1950s i.e. how things went from mercantilism to laissez faire to corporate liberalism]
archive.org/details/contoursofameric007738mbp

The Making Of Global Capitalism [for everything that happened after the 1950s i.e. the break down of the Bretton Woods system and the creation of US dollar hegemony and global neo-liberalism]
digamo.free.fr/panitch12.pdf

Mind dumping those books on /freedu/ as well?

RTFM
Read The Fing Manifesto

Makes me feel bad. I didn't have an interest in politics until I was 25 and out of the Army.

Been a while since I tried to link a post cross-board, so test:

I'm 24 and have bothered with leftism for only a year. I feel that I would have done more with my life if I had discovered it sooner, but on the other hand I discovered it when I needed it the most.

the ego and it's own

I love you guys.
Well i only showed interest because my friends were into Anarcho-communism.

Here's a good list:

Hanako sure felt the bern didn't see

Rude!

Fuck you!

how well read of a leftist do you need to be to make it at a graduate level for an ivy or equivalent?

Op is asking for an introduction to Communism, not help with writing a thesis on it.

Start with the Manifesto and Critique of the Gotha Program.

Capital is also a must-read but I'd recommend being somewhat familiar with the basic concepts before jumping into it because it's pretty complex material discussed in antiquated language. Personally I found Kapitalism101 videos to be very helpful in tackling some of Marx's more complex ideas.

If you want to learn the basics of Marxism-Leninism, check out Lenin's State and Revolution and Stalin's Foundations of Leninism. They're both fairly short reads.

Then you can think about getting to the more complicated stuff.

Not sure. Richard Wolff studied economics at Stanford and Harvard but was never required to read Marx or any other critics of capitalism.
