SUCH OBSESSION!

30

27

30.

19

Got any particularly good reading material for someone who hasn't read much? I'm already working on Marx and Engels.

Depends what you're interested in fam.

19

20.

Today I forgot if I was 20 or 21. I age too damn quickly.

Literally anything tbh, but I'm interested to know about economic management of Communist societies even a good history book from a leftist perspective.

starting junior high soon

20

26, noflag

If you're interested in history from a Marxist perspective I'd recommend Eric Hobsbawm's Age of… series. It starts with Age of Revolution, which focuses on the "dual revolutions" in England and France. Then it moves through the Age of Capital, Age of Empire, and Age of Extremes.

Off the top of my head I can't remember any good books I've read about economic management under communism. There's Parecon, though that's pants-on-head retarded, you might want to give it a look all the same.

15 (i'll be 16 next month)

18

Socrates.

Imo it's always best to start at the beginning.

what a surprise

you guys ready for a 60 years of pain, hard work and suffering to probably never achieve communism?

Non-philosophy majors plz go.

Yes. Otherwise its going to be 60 years of pain, hard work and suffering to help porky. Might as well give it a shot.

19

yeah man its guna be a hard life no matter what

21

26

21

39

Thanks for the recs.

By the way, are there any modern philosophers in particular (excl. Marx) that you would have me look at? I heard that Hegel is hard to get into (understand) so from whom would I build up my knowledge? Aristotle?

29

28

(Too old for this shit… 27)

If you try to read your way from the ancients to the 21st century you're gonna be an old man by the time you're done. I wouldn't worry too much about sticking to a strictly chronological order.

Try a few ancient texts, especially from Plato and Aristotle, then skip ahead to Descartes. His Discourse on the Method and Meditations on First Philosophy are basically the foundations for modern philosophy.

After Descartes, Hume and Kant would be good choices. Kant, like Hegel, has some very lengthy works that are difficult to work through unless you're taking a class. Kant's Prologomena to any Future Metaphysic is short and relatively accessible. Depending on how you find that, you could take a look at his Critique of Pure Reason.

There's an awful lot to read. It depends on what you're most drawn to. I'm guessing, since you're on leftypol, that political philosophy would be your thing moreso than, say, autistic anglo epistemology. Hobbes' Leviathan and Locke's Two Treatises of Government are important to the development of bourgeois politics.

During this period politics is still very much entwined with economics. Therefore to understand one you need to look at the other. So I'd have to recommend Smith's Wealth of Nations (to be read alongside his Theory of Moral Sentiments). Also Ricardo's On the Principles of Political Economy and Taxation. That provides you with a pretty good idea of what Marx himself was responding to and building upon. While Marx is the major voice of communist political economy in the 19th century, there are anarchist theorists like Bakunin and Proudhon who may be worth reading, although I don't have much experience with them.

In the 20th century Rawls' A Theory of Justice and Nozick's Anarchy, State and Utopia are probably the most two most influential works of political philosophy within the bourgeois tradition.

That should keep you busy for a while.

kim stop posting on Holla Forums you have a country to run

And thanks, OP. I tried to census in another thread & it didn't work out. I'm happy to see there's a good amount of "older" posters here, and flags associated with different people/ages.

I might even say its better off if he doesnt do anything.

24.

25

Yeah I guess whatever.

favored quote was something like

dead

26

27

I thought most of you were like 18-22 tbh.

Thanks, you've been great.

I read some Descartes and Phaedrus already, but that's about it actually. You've really helped me get started.

23 and only use flags to shitpost

spookiest of spooks

Lmao, same here. That's why I like this being done in a thread. The strawpolls I've seen are too vague about age.

24

Glad to help, famalam. Good luck.

18, turning 19 in about a month and a half.

This. It's 60 fewer years that the following generations have to fight.

21

25

Thats not you

35

You forgot about both Rousseau and Machiavelli :(

And neither is 1-24

18

You're right, my bad. Was in class and thus a bit distracted. Add The Prince and The Social Contract I guess.

12

21 :—-DDDD

20

24. No flag, but I guess I'm closest to ancom.

20

29.

Since you are all so young, I will assume that you might come to your senses and join the right side of the history and actually start helping the working class.

OK bud. Keep voting! That's sure to change something!

25

And what side would that be?

18

28 and a half

The flip side

21

22

I'd assume he refers to the fact that SocDem is politically relevant.

23

I don't use flags but I would use this if I had to.

I mostly lurk, probably would use this flag, and 23

I think I scored right between "Feel the Bern", "I just want to smoke weed", and "I'm 14 and I read about Noam Chomsky on Wikipedia".

What 14 year old ready Wikipedia?

14, soon 15.

o boy

i think telling anyone you're under 18 is an insta-ban on Holla Forums

either that or just get bullied eternally

GL

Somebody already made this joke:

I don't think it's a joke

24 and I dont know how to use flags

Lol newfags

99

What was the soviet union like?

44

everything the history books told you is a lie

no, really?

19.
Age is a meme. I've learned way more from life than any pampered liberal roleplayer calling themselves a tankie.

Yup really, who lies about being 44?

16 plz no bully

24

40 year old Virgin living with his mom on autismbux.

24, Scottish

you mean the side before the cold war before the propaganda machine made voting useless?

Is that a boy?

...

not surprising at all.
One day you'll grow out of being a bootlicker.

Lmao, I dunno, just thought it was unusual. I've talked to "older"(going by general board ages) people on these boards before, but it's cool to see it again. You live in the states?

Hmm, Scottish. One of the best accents, hands down. Nice.

Could be his arm

24, turning 25 in two months.

19

36 been lurking a few months, besides the shitposting from Holla Forums I like this place.

Scottish isn't an accent

19

Do you guys just have Yugo-nostalgia or are you Market Socialists?

18

No I live in Canuckistan, you?

Pretty sure Scottish is an accent, although in a lot of places its also a different language

Both.

Scotland has several accents that can all sound pretty different.

But at the end of the day they all sound absolutely disgusting anyway.

Well you know what I mean at least

From Kentucky but live in India now. Nice to meet you. :)

Welcome, welcome, user

They all sound good to me.. To each his own

But broadly the same. Kind of a semantic point.

Anyway how many people ever went 'ooh I liked his sexy Balkan accent'. I mean sure, it makes hookers sound more exotic but lets be real about who has the horrible accent here

16

Lel
You?

Nice to meet you as well, must've been quite an adjustment going from KY to India, how do you like it?

18

20

1

fucking liar I'm 17 now

Definitely an adjustment. Biggest ones being having to change what I wear for the most part, though I do like the clothes here. It would be nice to wear shorts when it's hot. :) But it's not proper or respectful. Also can't smoke much out in the open, also a respect thing. It sounds worse than it is, but it's helped me cut down on smoking at least. I miss home sometimes, but then see the BS in the news & remember how hard life was there for me, so it's not so bad.

All in all, happy with the move.. It's really interesting here. Though I spend a lot of time indoors shitposting, lmao. If you ever get a chance to come here, it's worth a trip. Incredible scenery & cool culture.

Random question, is weed legal in Canada? I think it's been more lax there in the past, but not sure if it's completely legal or what. I know the weed is very good there, though.

nice

t. 22

Are you going to meet the Naxalites?

My SO's told me a little about them/Maoist groups in general. Tbh, before I came here I wasn't very politically involved or cognizant of all the different parties here. They do have pull mainly in Andhra Pradesh. I was really happy to see that communism isn't vilified here the way it is in the US. Kerala is a great place, kind of nearby, and they lean communist as well.

SO is Tamil, and they recently held an election. He voted for the DMDK party which had alliances with communist parties. I'm still learning the ropes. Once I'm able to vote, if ever(still don't know the rights I'll get once I convert my VISA), I'll follow suit. We have similar leanings.

Interesting story.. The first time I met his parents, the first thing I saw staring at me when I entered the house was this big photo(pic related) on the wall. I learned about the Tamil Tigers before getting here, since it's a part of his culture, and it's a sad story. They have a lot of pride in their culture, and Prabhakaran represents a struggle for the people.

I wasn't able to go to college, so i'm self educating right now with the help of >>>/freedu/

Fuck off you bourgeois twat

28 soon. I'm not even AnFem, i like purple.

Would Montesquieu's "The Spirit of the Laws" be an interesting reading from a leftist perspective?

31

0. I'm still in utero.

soon 21, lurking for the most part,

really a newfag

15 (its not a phase MOM!) this is the real me

I wanted to visit in my 30s, but my MS has me in a motorized chair can't really see myself in India now. Cannabis is on its way to being legal for all, as it was an election promise I'm certain they'll follow through within 6 months to a year, but with all sorts of draconian restrictive regulations… My condition has allowed me to obtain a medicinal permission, so I grow my own.

fake tits exist

19

Damn, I bet there's a company or something that might specialize in this. A travel company that would have people who work there to be a guide & help with travel issues like a personal assistant. (That's a great idea, so I'm sure someone has thought of doing this, too) Honestly, that makes me want to extend a hand if you wanted any help with that, and I'd even find a place for you to stay. Not joking. If you do consider it, I'm always lurking on here, and I'm sure we could find a way to go about it. Just keep an eye out for me around here. :)

I had to put my plans to come here on hold for a year & a half, because I had to detox from methadone first. Not comparable, I know, but it sucked not being able to just pick up & go anywhere when I wanted to.

I just looked, and it turns out there are services for this!

Fucking awesome. I'm planning on growing my own, soon, since the quality I get here is what I call "middle school weed", lmao. It's shwag/reg. It does the job though. Good to hear Canada has its shit together in legalizing. The US is taking entirely too long.

Thanks for the kind offer user, but I'll never get there realistically; I'm on a disability pension, means I can barely afford a bus pass…

I'm 12 and what is this?

17
I don't use flag

14 and smarter than most of you cucks

24

I'm literally here because I read Noam Chomsky on Wikipedia…
