season 2 was pretty good bit better then first season.
would like to see a bit more Romance hinted at but from what it appears lance and pidge have a decent change of being together if anything.

She has white passing features (small animoo nose, blue eyes) so that's actually extremely triggering and othering, which is for sure good.

It's certainly better than Legend of Korra. The characters are solid and likeable, though not complex, but it is still a children's cartoon, you're not supposed to watch this stuff expecting DS9 or The Wire.

Season 2 was much funnier than season 1. They were really trying to force it in season 1 really badly. Other than that, it's a mixed bag for me where it excels better or does worse than season 1.

Got more character arcs here that seem to tie in with the main story. It's still a problem but characterization growth just seems to stop for some of them once they get their episode and afterward they just become tools to move the plot along or just there to provide a quick quip. I'd say that 3 characters seem to have a reason to be there and the others are just there for the ride.

The prejudice princess being one of the sloppiest writing throughout. There's distrust of another race because they took your home and there is just being idiotic racist for no good reason, other than to provide some kind of conflict. I really hated how pretty inconsistent the princess's racism was and how that was resolved.

I wish the separation and coming back together took just took a little bit longer to strengthen characterization more. I thought that was the point of the separation to begin with. I felt the season 2 finale was just a bit weaker than season 1. The reveal of that season didn't seem natural in execution. Needed much more elaboration before the reveal occurred.

I enjoyed season 2 more but season 1 felt more coherent as a story from beginning to end. Also it doesn't have princess Allura being so stupid with the prejudice sub-plot.

Also, outside of that one joke with the bathrooms, Pidge being a girl but still disguising as a man seems kind of pointless to me. I guess they resolved that with the reveal in season 1 but that only leaves one thing for her that defines her character, finding her brother and father. I thought they'd play with the male but still female dynamic more but they really haven't. She only got that one scene finding that they are alive and learning harmony between science and nature to get the upgrade. The rest is all genius skills to win skill checks. I feel that she is a little bit underused more than she should be.

It's literally the same joke as in that episode of Spongebob, wherein Spongebob and Patrick get stranded in Rock Bottom. They can't figure out which bathroom is which based on the signage, so they wait for some locals to go in/out. Honestly, the only thing in season 2 that I could construe as being "grrrrl power" in nature is the Princess suddenly being a pro at fighting with a bo staff. It comes out of nowhere just so she can have an action scene while the great big mecha punch-up is happening. It's made especially jarring by the fact that the last time we saw her pick up a weapon, she didn't even realize she was holding it backwards until she accidentally shot someone behind her.

To be fair, I think the Altean's are kind of a warrior race like Starfire's is (even though Allura tends to play up their more diplomatic side instead.) Altean children were expected to handle the combat simulations from season 1, Altean language lessons summon deadly beasts to maul you if you fail to speak sample phrases incorrectly. But we don't have a huge frame of reference for what Altea use to be like since only Allura and Coran are around. Plus, a bo staff is less complicated to than a gun (maybe guns looked different 10,000 years ago when Allura was frozen or maybe she had trained with bo staff instead of guns as a child since she wasn't expected to be a soldier.)

I think the writers might also not want new viewers to see screencaps or trailers from the new seasons and have the "Pidge is a girl" twist spoilered for them.

Do you know why? Because the show itself is not profitable. Netflix subscriptions aren't good signals for Dreamworks to invest in this. The profit comes from the subscriptions, not from people buying the show directly. If this was sold on a Transactional Video on Demand model and sold well, Dreamworks would start paying attention and raising the show's budget.

It Wouldn't have made any sense for them to fuck them over. Creating good content and taking risks are a matter of incentive for the executives. If they can make the relatively same amount of profit regardless of the quality of their works, they're going to make garbage every time. Why take the risk of experimenting and having high budgets when there's no financial consequences of displeasing your audience? However, they will care when their creators flock in droves to their competitors and they start losing their consumerbase. But for that to happen, major changes in law and the industry itself are going to have to take place, but people, even on Holla Forums don't want to touch the heart of the problem.

My dream scenario would be Dreamworks getting in contact with Bandai for merchandising Voltron. Bandai has proven with their current series of Gundam IBO models that they can produce high-quality, fully articulated snap-fit kits, molded in color, and still keep the price in the $10-$15 range. I'd be all over some little action models of Voltron and the lions.
