‘Twin Peaks’: New Ratings, Facing Off with ‘Game of Thrones,’ and What It All Means For the Future of TV

indiewire.com/2017/07/twin-peaks-ratings-2017-season-4-game-of-thrones-1201853930/

If there's no plans to make more, the ratings simply do not matter. What are they going to do? Pull it before the season's up?

Has happened infamously before

fucking normalfags ruin everything.

GoT is one of those shows that will be forgotten 2 years after it finishes, Twin Peaks S3 is something people will talk about for decades. I'm sure Showtime understand that given what happened with S2 in a similar situation.

They've already lost the soap opera fans, and the Lynchian magic is fleeting.

Personally I thought the last Twin Peaks episode was way better than S7E1 of GoT. The scene where the guy mugs his grandma while her retarded son watches was one of the most powerful things I've ever watched.

Bravo Lynch.

...

Netlifx will buy the rights to produce new episodes. Twin peaks had a revival on Netflix to begin with.

Contrast the Grandmother mugging by probably Mr.C's rape baby while her tied up tard son struggles in horror with the earlier scene of a horny housewife mugging the cum out of a retarded Coop's cock while her confused son is forced to listen and it become evidently clear this show is beyond kino.

WRONG

I'm hoping in 25 years people will have grown up enough to recognise GoT as a glorified soap opera and maybe tv shows won't suck as much. As for now movies are the only form of entertainment where good films can be rewarded with good box office results, but even there it's not consistent. Take for example the John Carter movie which flopped for seemingly no reason.

Got is just murder porn. It feeds on normie's desire to do harm and their sexual desires.

It has a plot to act as a device for the murder and rape. It's a mindless show for mindless people.

Game Of Thrones - 10,105,000 Viewers
Twin Peaks - 267,000 Viewers

Reminder that David Lynch is fucking trash

Because they decided to call it John Carter instead of John Carter of Mars, and no one knew what the fuck it was.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with John Carter.

Go fap to your medieval porn.

Nothing can compete with GoT, that's an unfair comparison, especially with the esoteric story of TP. I do wonder if even D&D will be able to keep it up with their next series or if any of the spinoffs will have similair numbers. GoT was basically lighting in a bottle and it had the right balance of soap, sex and murder.

It's not like most young people would know what it was in either case, only neckbeards.

I'm about to watch the latest TP episode and I can safely say that the Return/S3 is fantastic. Really, really good. GoT peaked with S1 as it was a very solid adaptation, from S2 onwards it changed too many things and it became obvious very early they were going all in with the poz.

t. plebbit

BOBBY IS A LITERAL CUCK
You know that David Lynch is not a libtard, he's doing that specifically because he knows how much that will rustle me.
I know that they're probably getting divorced but still, even Becky found it in bad taste.

Thats why lynch gets out of bed in the morning bro

And twin peaks isn't? Does it get a pass for being incredibly dull in between murders?

do you even understand what murder porn means? it means on screen murder of audiences ideological enemies, where they get sadistic pleasure seeing it. inglorious bastards is perfect is perfect example of this. unlike twin peaks, it's not like wife beaters are the audience.

Goddammit there's only 7episodes left.

Bobby was cucked by Laura so many times before. Twin Peaks is a one big cuckening almost everybody cucks someone and gets cucked themselves.

The diner scene was hilarious, Shelly has horrible taste in men (Leo, total dick mode Bobby and now drug lord Red) and she passed that shit taste to her daughter.

I hope Coop gets his wits back quickly, but this far his condition seemed to be deteriorating. After getting out of the power socket he at least managed to follow some instructions and had some iniative, but for a few episodes he has been a total vegetable.

This is probably my biggest gripe with Return. This Dale/Dougie story is taking too long.

in 1990 what he did was new, unexpected for the norms of the medium at the time

watch the show, compare it to EVERY series in this 'golden age of television' and realize, even with the porn and murder and 'writers freedom' the rest of TV touts, he's done it again

seen most of his movies and I'm not a huge fan but right now in the culture we need sometihng like this, i have a thirst for something like this and it could be my new-media blindness but i haven't seen it anywhere else

Lynch doesn't shy from depicting the actual sorry state of women, even with nobodies like that fat chick honking the horn and the horrible bitch the sheriff is married to. Compare and contrast with Game of Plebs and every other trash show out there.

Truly I am a better person for preferring Twin Peaks over GoT.

Was Lynch basing this off real life? Shelly's career has gone nowhere, her daughter is ruining her life (Amick's real son is bipolar) and she's still dating horrible people for her. There was even that weird little plot line in the original run where Lynch's FBI director character starts crushing on Shelly hard as soon as he sees her. Maybe he was trying to send her a message in his own roundabout way.

...

At best he is center left, which makes him very similar to the South Park cucks before they got showbiz AIDS.

As someone said in another thread, this is kinda western movie style, where the big confrontation between the sheriff and the outlaw was built-up troughout 80% of the movie and the last scene was the actual confrontation.
At this point The Return of Cooper is the reward in the plot. Wouldn't be surprised if he comes back in the last 4, 3 episodes, despite all the surreal stuff, this is truly classic kino.

Of anyone really, he's actually egalitarian, anybody can be a scumbag.

He also voted for Reagan, at least he outright admits to know jackshit about politics and that he votes for the nicest guy.

Call your movie John Carter of Mars, and people are going to pick up that it's some kind of space adventure.

Here in Tacoland is called "John Carter of the two worlds", didn't seemed to help.
What was that movie going up against that year?

Welcome to small town… anywhere on the planet really.

Season three is a fucking letdown, frankly.
Twin Peaks was amazing when it took place in, you know, fucking Twin Peaks. 1/3 of season 3 actually takes place in the town, and that 1/3 is pretty damn good. It's still the police mystery that I liked in Season 1 and latter half of Season 2.
But the rest of the show is just uncomfortable to fucking watch.

Should have stayed dead after Fire Walk With Me, honestly. I'm hoping that at some point, Cooper gets his shit together, comes back to Twin Peaks and the show really picks up. But the season is half over, and I wouldn't be surprised if it that will be left up to a Season 4 that won't come at this point.

Normie

I like this season, but I have to say all those desert towns are fucking ugly, lack atmosphere and don't serve the eerie feel of the show at all.

.Season 3 is a let down
You'd have had a point three or so episodes ago, but it's gotten into pure kino territory.

In this scene, Richard represents the annoyed viewers who had to get Lynched in the early set up episodes. No coincidence it's in the episode when everything starts tying together.

I am deeply concerned something horrible will happen to him or he will snap into his old self at one point.

But all the good stuff in Season 3 happens outside of twin peaks. The worst parts are watching old washed out actors from original trying to act.

11 episodes in and there's still no Audrey?
What the fuck, Lynch?

No Audrey, no Harry, no Ed, practically a cameo for James, no Donna, tiny scene with Mike, barely any Nadine and NO ANNIE (best girl). More of the originals would have been nice but I guess the slow burn wouldn't fit too well with so many of them being there.

Have you seen her lately? She looked like a tub of lard last time I saw her. I actually thought the Ashley Judd character was her replacement.

Speak of the devil.

We're slowly but surely getting there, boys.

These people were never going to show up in the first place

I really like this episode but it felt the closest one to filler.

This tbh.
I don’t know what he was taking when he decided to move most of the plot out of Twin Peaks.
The comfy small-town atmosphere with the weird Lynchian characters and the eeriness and darkness really worked.

I don’t think I would have minded a mini-series of novels continuing the story twenty-five years later as much though – if it had focused on the town – introduce new characters as well, but keep the action in the town.

Charls thread?

Hopefully the Return means more than just the show coming back, but a full return to Twin Peaks for the real deal next season.

ayy yo who's that on the right? i want to see more feet pics

People like you are trash.

"Just keep feeding me, KEEP FEEDING ME!"

A good ending is better than 6 more mediocre seasons.

Candy is Laura Palmer, just so you all know.

What is David Lynch trying to say with all of these scenes of people standing in rooms, not doing or saying much of anything?

That is probably just filler.

I can't image how frustrating this show must be for people who are just watching, waiting to be drip fed things they recognise for nostalgia. All the best things in the season so far are things that barely have anything to do with the old show. The best returning characters have changed so much you can hardly recognise them.

Same thing with (((Disney's))) nuWars, giving fanboys fuccbois the (except) same story again, but with old characters.

I actually like the little Twin Peaks we've seen in this season because I still feel it like fantasy americana, just that the concept of americana is seen across the nation.
The large cities never feel like too lost in globalization, it doesn't matter where the series takes us I can recognize it as USA, probably that's why it hasn't shown a place like Los Angeles.

I heard it was a bunch of puking, farting, pissing, burping.

The Return was described as a "limited series". There was never any intention of a season 4.

there is no next season pleb

there's probably not any more Lynch after this either

Nearly no-one saw Twin Peaks.
Everyone that actually saw Twin Peaks remembers the second season was just garbage-fire level awful.

There is a fucking reason why they stayed away from this show for so long, except a bunch of "MUH KINO" fags and champagne socialist finding it "Oh so wittyyyy!" that surprise surprise aren't the ones paying for cable TV (the first ones pirates the second don't actually watch TV at all… they read a book about it).

I say there's an overall theme with patience in this season.

The counter to this is obviously patience:
So what I'm saying is, impatience with this series leads only to Garmonbozia. Appreciate those long quiet scenes, you're suppose to look around, it's a painting, the colors and faces are beautiful. Patience will lead you to goodness.

And when they finally did get their damn fine coffee bit, it was totally subverted with Dougie to mimicing what someone else was saying

This is a very informative post. I'll admit I was impatient at the beginning of the season and kept criticizing it, but over time I realized how foolish I was and grew to enjoy it for what it was, to go along with the ride. It's far more enjoyable now.

I was lucky that I underestimated Lynch and expected this season to be a cascade of gringy nostalgia pandering like so many reboots and sequels these days, so I was pleasantly surprised straight from the beginning.

You must remember that Lynch got the number of episodes he wanted, and he edited the show personally beforehand, originally he was going to get 9 episodes, I stand by the theory that this series is western movie style, only building up confrontation at the end.

Also that Cooper is going to come back in Part 14 according to Bradley Mitchum.

I'm near the end. I have enjoyed the show, but I wouldn't put it in my top 5. Certainly up there though. I think one of the problems is just due to the existence of modern shows now; for it's time it certainly would have been right up there. Game of Thrones, Westworld, Mr. Robot, Breaking Bad, and maybe The Expanse all beat it in my opinion, and I haven't even seen other good shows that I've heard of (like Black Mirror or Stranger Things, or The Wire, or some others I can't think of now). There's also Always Sunny in Philedelphia, Arrested Development, and Children's Hospital, but I can't compare those to a show like this because they're pure comedies.

I really hope this is bait.

I'm new to the board and I like to post YT comments.

Twin Peaks is kind of like lost to me. No real story going on in the background. Just a lot of bullshit.

Mark of true kino

I don't know having Lynch oogle at a french prostitute for 5 minutes kinda makes it hard.

I don't know if I necessarily agree with that. This is shot on digital and Lynch was never really amazing with cinematography.

Wow. It's nothing.

So what even is the deal with Twin Peaks? I've never watched it but have heard good things about it.

It is part crime drama & part parody of soap opera – it was made by Lynch, so you know it’s gonna be weird. If you watch and like the pilot episode, you’ll probably be invested enough to keep going once it really gets weird.
