There's a little excerpt that explains the trick. You could upload an avatar to the server by providing a URL, and apparently the server grabbed it over the clearnet and exposed its IP address.

They got a VPS from the same provider to test latency and confirm that it wasn't a TOR exit node or proxy. Then they did some further analysis with packet sizes to prove it was actually being shared directly from their server over the host's LAN and not through a VPN.

The first half details how they rolled up the moderator and did all this internet sleuthing to find the identities of the admins, and I thought they were just blowing this "owning the server" thing out of proportion because they had moderator access. Then they got to the part where they ran the website for almost a year after moving it to Australia to give them more sweeping powers to attack users with browser exploits and shared CP to stay in character as the admin.

When you create the circumstance for crime, you must acknowledge that in a lot of cases you'll also be partially (and sometimes even largely) responsible for the crime. Some people will be people who are balancing on the line between morality and temptation, and perhaps the particular circumstances at that precise moment was what tipped them over to buying a stolen phone. Perhaps without that particular situation and opportunity they would have gone through their lives without buying stolen phones. In other words, you can't really know if some would have committed the crime without your incitement. That is unless you assume in a somewhat nutty religious way (like many do these days) that everything is completely deterministic and a person is somehow "fated" to do all the things they do. And that's what these guys are pretending, like their incitement to crime isn't creating criminals in some instances, but that all the criminals they catch were "destined" to commit crime.

That's why police shouldn't create crime. Their job is to stop, prevent and punish crime, not create it to catch the criminals they in a sense create. I know that you in the US have grown lax on this and use such sting operations liberally, but even with you there was huge debate and lots of criticism when this practice began, exactly because it goes against hundreds of years of established western law practice. Your federal government is way out of control and this is one of the ways. Here in Norway (which has a rapidly deteriorating legal foundation as well) that practice would be highly illegal, because in that particular aspect we do retain some rational law. The forum should not remove exif data. It will change checksums which would be a pain for finding duplicates and organising. Removing exif data only matters for OC, which is a small portion of content. It would require trusting the site to keep you safe, which is a stupid thing to do.

It is an actual issue. I personally ran a script long ago though to monitor a textboard and it automatically could have added in timestamps for each time a post was made. The thing is, you want to throw up as many barriers as possible, and make your site as hard a target as possible, so the work of CIA niggers is not easy.

The reason is timestamps add an extra and unnecessary contextual clue to helps with tracking people. Believe me, I'm a fucking god at tracking and identifying people, and have succeeded in identifying targets in very extreme scenarios where very little information was available.

The only reason to have those timestamps is to give users a sense of how much activity is going on. A "x guests are on the site right now | x are viewing this thread" is a better way to give people a sense of activity I believe besides simply seeing new posts every day or tracking posts per hour/day/etc. In a case like this it still serves as a clue as to which threads generate the most interest on the site which together with analysis of the thread to see what kind of responses it gets further helps build a profile on the users but I think it's not that big of a leak and people do need a sense of activity less they abandon the place as "dead".

I notice a lot of pedo sharing circles on completely compromised shit that gets advertised incessantly on here and some other imageboards have a "post or be kicked" stipulation which is probably some vain attempt to stop lea from lurking or to weed out normies that would report them to the police or police who'd not post cp. It's not an effective defence strategy. If you're going to share CP it shouldn't be a forum at all.

In fact this is how it should be done:

0. No fucking accounts.
1. The site used should be permissive to CP but not exclusive to CP. This is important. Literally just make it a "post anything you want there's no mods here" site open to anyone.
2. The site should not retain content long. It should have a limited number of pages and threads plus expiration timers for threads of 1 month maximum but preferably 1 or 2 weeks.
3. The site should be barebones minimalist for speed, efficiency, simplicity, and OpSec. No feature bloat. Absolutely nothing unnecessary. Just the ability to create a thread, attach a file, write a comment, and respond to a comment. Very similar to 4chan's textboard /prog/.
4. Users should be able to delete their own posts the same it works here on Holla Forums. aka each time you make a post there's a password to delete it. Unlike on Holla Forums though the default password shouldn't be a randomly generated password, the default password should be no password, and users who are too lazy to fill in a password of their own should be subject to the potential that any random person could click "delete post" and delete their post by not putting in password.
5. The site should host a read me page that has a few guidelines written on it that the users are expected to all follow, it wouldn't be enforced mind you, but it's there to tell everyone how to behave. It would say something like this: Everyone on this site is assumed to be American. Use only American spelling and grammar and do not ever mention you are any other nationality. Do not talk about your personal life. Do not tell anything but lies on here. Do not ask for proof of anything or acknowledge those fishing for information. Do not ever mention any landmarks, businesses, weather, or any other details of your personal life or where you live. The purpose of this site is simple; share files without any restrictions whatsoever. There are no mods here.
I would then have site also host some scripts / tools which the user can run on his own end that will protect him. These would be completely open source and the user would be expected to take the code and run it and it would check files for anything that could compromise their shit in case CIA niggers upload files that are compromised in some way. I'd also have the site itself check files using the same script and reject anything that is compromised but the script for the user to run himself is just a double-protection / guarantee.

Threads would all start with No 1, there'd be no name, files would have no filename or any other information, it would just be a very fucking simple textboard-like interface.

When you post a file on Holla Forums there is the original filename for the file still and you can download it with that filename and then there is a randomly generated filename which unfortunately can also be used for tracking users.

I would literally make each file in the thread be named in numeric order. So...

1.png 2.png 3.jpg 4.pdf 5.txt 6.jpg 7.mp4 8.jpg 9.webm for example. It would just increment the number for each file posted in the thread regardless of the filetype (you won't get 1.png 2.png 1.jpg 1.webm 3.png for example).

Yes I am aware that when people are trying to save the files they will have problems with over-writing files they already saved from another thread. That's why folders exist though and it's the responsibility of the user to just create a new folder for each time they want to save content from a thread. I would probably make an automated saving button that appears on every post. When you click it, it saves the comment from that post, and the attached files for you, in an automatically generated folder, that is placed in your downloads folder. There'd be also one button at the top of each thread that when you click it, it does much the same thing, saving the content of the whole thread to an automatically generated folder.

As for file formats I'd allow, I would allow jpg, png, and gif for imagefiles and I would MAYBE allow PDF for documents and I would allow txt (which would be great for when someone wants to share a very long post that exceeds the maximum character limit I'd set for posts which would be 8,192 btw and limited to only the Basic Latin char set ( see pic related )

As for the video format I'd allow, I would only allow the most CIA Nigger proof of the video formats, probably webm or mp4, MAYBE I'd allow those both.

As for the thumbnail.

The thumbnail for an image would be the same format as the image uploaded. You start a thread and upload "niggers.jpg" then the first file in the thread will be a thumbnail that is jpg format. You make another post and upload say "pepe.png" then you get a thumbnail that is png format. I would not duplicate Holla Forums's retardation in making every thumbnail be jpg.

When you leftclick the thumbnail it would expand it to the full size image in the thread. When you middleclick it then the full size image would be opened in a new tab.

If you're a dumb shit that saves the thumbnail, the thumbnail itself would just be named (number).(extension)

When starting a thread a subject would be required. Thread subjects would be displayed as ALLCAPS and if you typed something like "piss off cunt" or "piSS oFf CunT" or "Piss Off Cunt" or "PISS OFF CUNT" it would all just be automatically converted to "PISS OFF CUNT" so there could no variation in style for thread subjects, thus making it harder to tell apart anons making threads. Yes absolutely. I would make it so there is literally no way to enforce any kind of rules, there'd be no moderator tools or account. There wouldn't even be a reCaptcha also (as if that shit ever stopped me from spamming). Any day an user could slide the board if they wanted to, they'd only have to deal with a timer (probably 1 second) that slows them down a bit from flooding so they can't post 100 posts in 1 second.

Aside from the account thing, you can look at the fms on the freenet, it has an option to post with time delay if you want to make tracking more difficult; I'm not sure if you can post anonymously (not pseudonymously) because of spam, but if it's possible most people would not see you (because of spam). On the other hand you can have several accounts and can delete your accounts if you want, you'll just have to redo some annoying captchas each time you make a new one. As a bonus you can use the freenet itself for anonymous file sharing, which usually lasts way more than the methods they use on current onion sites.

That is how imageboards already are anyways and it works just fine. Hosting the same files forever, besides making things stagnant, makes things easier on the lower-level CIA niggers.

Actually, there is a way to use freenet anonymously regardless of the current situation, to do so get some irl darknet peers. Otherwise I would wait a little for word from the developers.

Here are a couple things we can take away from this:

I think Holla Forums uses captchas every few hours for each tor node using the website. If the captcha server is compromised this is can be used to track users as well as an account (say, one made for the postings under the captcha)

I think is cool that you're finding the same roadblocks that have already appeared elsewhere. A problem with an older to the fms forum software in the freenet, called frost, is that a single person with a script could flood every board on sight. The community hopped from different boards (board.name.1, board.name.2, etc) and the spammer followed, and at the same time this introduced confusion in the community. The "web of trust" in the fms is supposed to solve that problem.

Thousands of posts with random characters. I think the "invisible" thing comes because frost fetches all the messages indiscriminately so it can't keep up.

Since it's all random characters it can't really be filtered.

I assume that equal weight would be given as to the probability of each character being selected.

That being the case I believe I could create a counter-spam script that detects that a post is basically random characters by taking a look at the content and measuring the weight/noise of each character if you know what I mean to determine within a certain level of accuracy that it's purely random.

When the content of a post is thus detected as random characters, I'd just filter it.

Other measures also are:

• Detect unusual amounts of unicode being posted and filter those posts, as majority of legit posts have very little unicode, but a random char spammer would possibly be expected to have more of it (if it uses unicode characters)
• Detect posts that have very little spaces and don't contain links in them. Normal posts the space character gets used a lot (in between every word), the exception being when someone is dumping links of course. Long random strings of characters with very few spaces would be indicative of spam.

This is how I'd defeat that kind of spammer. Now, if I was faced with such counter-measures to my spam, I'd just start spamming copypastas and saved posts, like happened here on Holla Forums awhile ago when every board got hit hard by posts scraped from the various boards, which were then posted in every thread randomly quoting posts.

Other way for me to spam would be to put random numbers without using any characters from the alphabet.

...and if that fails then I also have some combo scripts, some basic bots, AI shit, etc. that can spam simply by creating actual conversations that none the less are automated in nature.

I could then make my AI more and more complex to it can detect keywords, shill threads for me, sagebomb, post memes, intentionally apply disruption tactics, detect so called "reddit spacing" and call out anons on it, etc.

It's amazing really that the Internet, our energy infrastructure, etc. manages to continue to function knowing how vulnerable it all is and how easy it is to get around everything. Holla Forums is like a castle and no matter how well built the castle if you have people thinking around the clock ways to raid it, they'll keep finding ways.

Much better than random characters btw would be posts made by some kind of algorithm / using chaotic mathematics or such where it's not random at all and the weight of each char is not the same but keeps changing as the spam continues. That would be pretty much impossible to filter but you're free to give me suggestions as to how.
