One crazy thing about Pogo, Walt Kelly could be very political, and viciously so, and it was a habit of his on the daily page to draw TWO strips a day, a really tough political one, and a more innocuous gag strip with no subtext in case the editors thought he'd gone over the line again. I remember the collection I read had both collections together, so Kelly was actually pumping out twice the out put of a normal daily newspaper cartoonist, and only half of it was printed.
