I would've actually preferred ethics classes. While in lutheran religion classes we did tip into evey other major religion and known cults like scientology, most of the nine or so years were spent reading bible verses or the history of the church.

The kids in ethics classes I know were pretty mature for their age, mostly due to those classes. While we were reading about Jeebus and drawing God with crayons, they were being taught morality and relativity through moral dilemmas and never "taught" anything, just presented questions and situations and how they would tackle them, also making them think on their own a lot more than in any other class.

The biggest issue is that ethics classes to my knowledge have even a looser curriculum than anything else, meaning anything goes, so if a teacher wants to make them recite the Koran for some reason, that's what they're gonna do, as ethics classes often sideline to discuss what happens in religions around the world.

This may come off sounding like a cuck or whatever, but I'd like to read a bit more on this German situation, why they did it, were they really "forced" to do it, and what was the intention.

Came off wrong, mostly that there was no strict methods to the classes and were mostly about waxing philosophical. They would watch some random movie and then discuss the characters, their decisions, how the students themselves would act in those decisions, and why, having to create their own basis for their opinions and arguments rather than just repeating what has been said.

Not sure if these classes ever had any tests, might depend on the teacher/school.
