The official BTC wallet works fine, but is large and initial setup takes quiet awhile because you need to download the entire chain, which is a few GB. I use electrum, which is lightweight and fast since you don't need to download the entire chain.

You can also use coinbase, which is web based and reliable, it's normally a place to transfer between USD and BTC but serves as a web wallet too. If you're purchasing BTC online through a normal service connected to your bank account, e.g. coinbase or bitstamp, they'll all serve the function of a wallet for you just fine if you're not moving it around very often. You can even just hold it in an exchange account (for the record, poloniex is imo the best crypto exchange).

An offline soft/hardware wallet is for assured security & reliability - there isn't any worry of the service going out of business, getting hacked or running out on everyone and taking your BTC with them. I wouldn't recommend leaving any large amount of BTC in any centralized service, as opposed to an offline wallet, except when you're using it - sort of like checking vs. savings.

From my quick research today, Bitbet, Betmoose and Fairlay seem to be the best BTC prediction markets in terms of reliability, liquidity and fees. Fairlay had the best odds for the election and is the one I went with. I've never messed with prediction markets before so don't take my word on it.
