President Trump, not wanting to waste money he could be spending on the military, declares California as a No Man's Land, no longer part of the Union and builds a giant wall separating the state and keeps it guarded by the Armed Forces. Major crusades start in the ruins of the major cities, as rumors start the only way to survive is to go South, the only place not completely destroyed and the only place where food and water are plentiful, and after the Mexico border.

However, a group of terrorists occupy the south of California. seizing its means of production and clean water, holding its inhabitants as hostages, as they see California as not only a sovereign nation, but a new empire.

Now, with nowhere to go and nothing to live for, the people of California must do whatever it takes to survive or escape, even if it means… WAR!

Comics in general have a long history of using disproportional amount of redheaded characters. It's probably because red hair helps them stand out against other characters, which was especially important in the early days when quality of color prints was often poor.

He got them after he was shot by police. I only got up to the part in volume 1 when the leader said that superpowers only manifest in black people.

What'd be cool is if a white guy wanted superpowers too, but found out they only manifest in black people and it crushed him. However, he realized that if he studied black people by taking blood from crime scenes (because blacks commit a disproportional amount of violent crime) and studying it, he figures out the "Science" behind it and reverse engineers a way for the same thing to happen to any other human, since we all share about 97% of DNA anyway. He then gives himself superpowers and shares his research with the rest of the world, prompting the next step in human evolution.

You see it's concepts like that which could be interesting but they need to be placed in the hands of the right writer.

One comic I read called 'Royals' did a concept where those of royal blood had superpowers. Depending on how pure your bloodline was meant your powers would be the most powerful. The British Royal Family had a pure one (said to possibly have had incest happen) so they had powers like super strength, flight and laser vision.

In America they had to track down people who had royal blood. They only found 4 people and the extent of their power was only super strength and enhanced reflexes.

The comic did not make full use of this concept and the entire thing was pretty fuckin boring due to it's main plot.

No, it's the one where a black kid gets shot by racist cops to discover that he has super powers. Then it turns out that throughout history white people have been killing black people to stop them discovering they have super powers and he joins the black super-hero resistance and everyone swoons over how amazing he is and how he's got the best super powers of them all.
