I'm willing to believe that, say, 0.5% or 2% non-White ancestry has a crippling effect on those who are aware of it or even those who are unaware of it. It's just that no one has articulated to me why.

For those who are aware, I think widespread acceptance of something more pragmatic (like 88%, which I picked because lol 88 and then rationalized later) would help to neutralize that nagging doubt. My worry is that there's a meaningful problem at that level for those who are unaware, and I am soliciting explanations (not context-free GIFs) as to why. That's what I am asking. So far, no one has articulated an argument against my proposal that we set the cutoff at 88% to eliminate those at 87.5% and below (with at least one full-blooded great-grandparent's worth of non-White ancestry). I'll be amazed if no one can come up with an articulable reasonable objection to it, but I mostly just get bare assertions and simplistic reiterations of my own question (like you gave).
