A long-ass time ago I found couple stories about Bank of America buying german telecoms but I can't remember the purchased entities to bring it back up again. Just as a general direction to shoot in.

BC Partners, I can contribute to this thread in regards to their Phones4u acquisition and “bankruptcy”. I watched from a vantage point (worked in the industry) it all unfold. The fact that no journalist picked up on the story or that there was no suggestion of Government investigation is proof positive that these grimy buggers are well connected.

Here’s how it went down.

It is also worth noting that in 2010 Dixon’s group (the owner of the largest chain of electrical and computing stores in the UK) signed a deal that would allow Phones4u to open concessions in their stores. This was a success but Dixons had underestimated the profits Phones4u would make from these stores and were almost instantly unhappy with the deal that they had signed and resented the profit that Phones4u were literally making under their noses.

So Phones4u are a thorn in the side of the industry. By being willing to accept lower margins they forced competition and forced the networks to pay them commissions that they wouldn’t have to pay if customers went direct to them.

What do?

So, the networks clearly colluded with each other to kill off Phones4u leaving only themselves and one compliant independent company in the business. They could now dictate prices themselves, save on commissions paid etc.

It is also worth noting that in 2013 Dixons group merged with Carphone warehouse. This meant that at the time Dixons owned Phones4u’s only direct competitor but due to contracts signed HAD to have Phones4u do business in their stores.

Total collusion by all partied to kill off a major British business in order to stifle competition thus fucking over the consumer.

So here is where BC Partners come in

By 2013 BC Partners had drawn profits on Phones4u of around 500 million, this left them 200 million short of what they had paid for it. Not all bad considering the valuation of the company and it’s strong profits.

But in September of 2013 it pulled a very odd move and took a loan against the company of 200 million that it paid to itself as a one off lump dividend.

Why? It was a very odd move as noted in the financial press.

They own all the infrastructure, though. It's a complete monopoly. By the way, PT Telecom and MEO have the same CEO - Paulo Neves. I think they are both owned by Altice as well.

I don't know if you're portuguese but MEO is one of the biggest Internet/Phone/TV providers in the country. It's basically ZON vs MEO vs Vodafone.
